The Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) announced this afternoon that the Los Alamos and White Rock senior centers will open Thursday, July 1with more regular hours.
The Betty Ehart Senior Center will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., and the White Rock Senior Center will open 9:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The mask mandate will remain in place for those seniors who are un-vaccinated for the COVID-19 virus, and also for all employees.

As you read this article, James and his crew at Aspen Copies are printing the most coveted document in town, the May edition of the Los Alamos Retired and Senior Organization (LARSO) newsletter.
This prized possession will be the only document in town that announces the who, what, where, when, why and how of the re-opening of the White Rock and Betty Ehart Senior Center. The plan is to launch seniors back into their habits starting May 6, final approvals pending.
The past week has been a race to the finish and a push to produce the May edition of the LARSO newsletter, the full scoop on everything senior. Seniors can expect some routine like grabbing a cup of coffee, doing a puzzle or using one of their newest laptops to catchup up on email. There will not be a television to watch at first because members have been home doing that enough during the last year.

Today 300 seniors received their second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine at the Betty Ehart Center in Los Alamos.
Nambe Pharmacy, Los Alamos Visiting Nurses, LAFD, LAPD, Los Alamos County staff, LARSO staff and volunteers will administer the second dose of the Moderna vaccine to seniors Sunday at the White Rock Senior Center.
If you received your first dose at BESC or WRSC, please check your NMDOH profile as soon as possible. You can only receive the second dose if given an appointment through your NMDOH profile.
For the second dose clinic Sunday at the White Rock Senior Center, participants will enter from Rover Boulevard onto Longview Drive and exit left on Longview Drive.

In regard to the photos of the vaccine line cue on Canyon Road February 10, I was there and took similar photos. My mother was entering the building just after 1:30 p.m. with her caregiver and witnessed someone in the line near the entrance to the gym parking lot pass out. An ambulance had to be called to the scene. The 1B group are made up of elderly and mostly unwell people who should not be standing on the pavement in a long line.

A portion of the Enterprise Bank & Trust philosophy is that its role in the community isn’t just about banking.
This was on full display when Enterprise employees not only honored a tradition of serving lunch to seniors but allowed it to take place even though it would take place like never before.
The annual holiday tradition took place just prior to the start of the holidays and continued into January. The meal of chicken cordon blue, rice pilaf, peas and carrots and raspberry cheesecake began in Los Alamos with 50 home delivered meals, often called Meals on Wheels. An additional 100 meals were served in a drive through lunch event, often called Grab & Go. This brought a great deal of holiday cheer to hungry seniors with a hankering for normality.

The Los Alamos Senior and Retired Organization (LARSO) as announced that the White Rock Senior Center’s drive thru lunch program is back in business beginning Monday.
The center has been closed recently as part of the safety protocol after a member working in the building tested positive for COVID-19.
Los Alamos County staff conducted a deep cleaning of two buildings followed by contact tracing and employee quarantine. Several employees were required to be tested for the virus.

The Los Alamos Retired Senior Organization (LARSO) announced this afternoon that there has been a positive COVID-19 case in the White Rock Senior Center.
The building is closed today, Thursday and Friday.
White Rock seniors are welcome to call 505.662.8920 and reserve a lunch at the Betty Ehart Senior Center in Los Los Alamos for Thursday ONLY and the lunch must be picked up there as well.
The annual holiday lunch sponsored by Enterprise Bank & Trust in White Rock is rescheduled for Friday, Jan. 8.
“Your reservations still stand, ONLY the date has changed. We apologize for the inconvenience,” LARSO Executive Director Bernadette Lauritzen said. “PLEASE check local media, our website, or social media for the latest information. To give you a visual of this COVID virus, it is a ripple on the pond after the stone is tossed, which starts a process.
I have always been vocal with my administration staff that if we have a positive test, we will be fully transparent. The reason is, how could the community trust us if we were to appear to hide something important? It was always a simmering pot on the back burner. On Tuesday of last week, the pot came to a full boil.
