Hunterdon Art Museum presents “Crossroads: Book Artists’ Impassioned Responses to Immigration, Human Rights, and Our Environment” and “Print+” from May 8 - Sept. 5, 2021. The works featured in the exhibitions comment on past and present racial, social, and political issues through observations and personal stories.
According to “
Crossroads.” Curator Maria G. Pisano, our world is at a crossroad and changing in a myriad of ways: refugees and migrants being displaced, an environment visibly in peril, plus constant conflicts and wars between countries and nations. File photo: A voter checks his registration with poll workers.
Facing a potentially severe shortage poll workers, the Legislature on Thursday introduced and quickly approved a number of changes for the June 8 election only, including doubling poll worker pay to $400.
The legislation (A-5842/S-3880) would also allow for voting districts to be staffed by two workers instead of the usual four to six. And it permits National Guard members in civilian clothes to work the polls. Gov. Phil Murphy signed the measure into law hours after it was passed Thursday.
A shortage of poll workers could lead to longer lines and waits to vote. ....

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ - The Hunterdon County Board of County Commissioners formalized another open space and land preservation initiative, adding the 97-acre CRC Mine Road property in Bethlehem Township to Hunterdon County’s land inventory.
This project was initiated by the nonprofit Hunterdon Land Trust, in Flemington.

As the acquisition progressed, the county Department of Planning and Land Use determined this parcel to be a good fit into the Hunterdon County Parks’ system, as the land is adjacent to the county’s Tower Hill preserve. ....

HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ - For the second straight county board meeting, commissioner J. Matthew Holt spoke about cautions with the American Rescue Plan funding, which could see as much as $24 million come to Hunterdon County.
The total, Holt said, is what the county was informed about as “earmarked by the federal government.”
The county said it is aware of potential for these funds to legally be allocated for paying COVID-19 pandemic-related expenses, covering lost revenues due to the pandemic, providing additional assistance to residents and small businesses and maintaining critical services and investments in water, sewer and broadband/internet infrastructure, among other possible uses. ....
