What you can do when vaccinated, according to the CDC and NU

As of mid-April, Illinois residents over 16 are eligible for the COVID-19 vaccine, and Northwestern is prioritizing students for first-dose appointments. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has also revised guidelines for fully vaccinated individuals on masking, social distancing and quarantining.
NU has not revised its COVID-19 guidelines for fully vaccinated students nor has it announced a vaccination requirement for Fall 2021. The University does, however, recommend students disclose their vaccination status to help inform ongoing rule changes, according to an April 16 email from Vice President for Operations Luke Figora.
“By disclosing your vaccination status, you are helping us…be prepared to respond to changing public health guidelines associated with vaccination status,” Figora wrote in the email. ....

Northwestern announces expectations for Fall and Spring Quarter

Northwestern announced adjustments to the contact tracing and quarantine procedure and new COVID-19 updates for Spring Break and Spring Quarter.
The Thursday email from Provost Kathleen Hagerty and Vice President for Student Affairs Julie Payne-Kirchmeier outlined procedures for Spring Break and Spring Quarter. Spring Wildcat Wellness will take place Mar. 29 to April 5, with students required to test negative twice during the period. During and after Spring Break, students living on campus will continue to be required to complete one rapid Abbott test and one Color test a week.
Residence halls and Sargent Dining Commons will also continue to stay open. ....

Luke Figora talks vaccine distribution, testing

Last week, the Daily sat down with Chief Risk and Compliance Officer and Senior Associate Vice President Luke Figora to discuss Northwestern’s COVID-19 response, vaccination plans and student testing. This interview has been edited for clarity and brevity.
The Daily: Does the University have a threshold for implementing a Wildcat Wellness quarantine in the middle of a quarter?
Figora: I don’t think there’s a hard metric in terms of number of positive cases or a specific positivity threshold that we’ve hit that we can flip that trigger. We’ve tried to think about it more as, “Is what we’re experiencing on campus kind of sustainable from a campus environment perspective? Does the kind of transmission seem to be increasing or stable or decreasing?” If we got a sense that there were multiple large, uncontrolled clusters spread on campus, that would be more likely to push towards a Wildcat Wellness period than the number of total cases.  ....

Opinion | Stop threatening students, start solving problems

I ride my bike to the Donald P. Jacobs Center every Monday morning for my COVID-19 test. Testing marks the beginning of my work week. I get tested, ride home to my apartment, make tea, and start on my schoolwork.
This week was different. I was tested on Monday, Feb. 15, per usual. Three days later, I received an email stating that my test could not be completed due to shipping delays and that I should get retested on Friday. I did so. The next Monday, I received the same email yet again.
Meanwhile, I had already gone in to do my first of now twice-weekly rapid antigen tests with a brand new app and a brand new testing process announced just a day earlier. This was the third testing service in the same number of months. The antigen test, which was promised to be fast, took me half an hour and required me to reset my password three times to access the app. Lines reached out to Sheridan Road and even to Lunt Hall that day. ....
