Chief Saloio announces retirement from Tisbury PD
Contract talks had stalled between the chief and town.
Tisbury Police Chief Mark Saloio has announced his retirement effective Nov. 5.
In a letter to town leaders Monday morning, Saloio thanked the town for the opportunity to serve as chief, said it was time for him to move on from law enforcement, and noted his accomplishments in preparing the department for state certification. In the letter, he cited updating the department’s systems, instituting regular equipment and personnel inspections and “modernizing the agency” as among his accomplishments.
“I am extremely proud of the capable group of officers that we have working for the Tisbury Police Department,” Saloio wrote. “I am very grateful for their consistent and steady support. We have a great group of people within the police department, and I hope that they continue to have your support. I am confident ....

Man charged with stabbing woman in Shrewsbury with glass tube

Police tracked down and arrested a Worcester man at a Sturbridge hotel Friday suspected of stabbing a woman in the neck Wednesday in Shrewsbury with a broken glass tube.
The suspect, identified as Carlos Gonzalez, 51, was charged with assault and battery on a family member, assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and strangulation.
Gonzalez was also arrested on two previously existing warrants.
The arrest was made through a joint effort by Shrewsbury police detectives, the Massachusetts State Police, and the Sturbridge Police Department.
About 5:45 p.m. Wednesday, police responded to Extra Storage Space, 53 Clinton St. in Shrewsbury, after receiving a 911 call regarding a woman being stabbed in the neck. ....

STURBRIDGE - Hillary Murray was promoted and became the first female sergeant on the Sturbridge Police Department on April 5, 2021.
STURBRIDGE - In a history-making unanimous vote, Sturbridge selectmen on Monday named the Police Department s first female sergeant.
Hillary Murray, who joined the department in 2006, scored the highest in the competitive promotion process which included a written examination, an assessment center and a panel interview with Mike Jagoda, major of the University of Rhode Island police and Carl Mazzaferro, captain of the Longmeadow Police Department and Chief Earl Dessert. ....

Acting Sturbridge police chief Earl Dessert appointed to the position
STURBRIDGE-The Board of Selectmen has named Lt. Earl J. Dessert as the town’s new police chief.
On Monday, Town Administrator Jeffrey K. Bridges Jr. appointed Dessert to the chief position and the Board of Selectmen confirmed that appointment, effective immediately, with a 4-0-1 vote.
Dessert was named the interim police chief on May 13.
Since Oct. 1, Dessert has also been serving as the Wales police chief, a position he will be leaving shortly.
Dessert has 22 years of law enforcement experience. He began his career with the Sturbridge Police Department in 2007 as a patrol officer after having served as a Vermont State Trooper. ....

Town of Sturbridge names Earl Dessert police chief

Earl Dessert will take on the role of Sturbridge Police Department chief starting Monday after a year heading the Wales Police Department.
Dessert, who has more than 22 years of experience in law enforcement, had served as the chief in Wales, a part-time role, since October 2019 while maintaining his job as lieutenant in the Sturbridge Police Department.
In a statement on Facebook, Dessert said the full-time job in Sturbridge will not allow him the time to continue serving in Wales.
“Although my tenure has been short and a pandemic struck soon after my appointment, the department still made great strides with building community relations, upgrading equipment, hiring experienced officers and seeking grant funding,” Dessert said. ....
