FAIRFIELD An Aquarion proposal to divert water to southwestern Connecticut has drawn backlash in Fairfield where the conservation commission says the project could harm the Mill River watershed.
The project is part of Aquarion’s long range plan to meet water needs in southwestern Fairfield County. If approved, it would divert up to 14.2 million gallons a day from the Greater Bridgeport System, which includes the Mill River watershed to the Southwest Regional Pipeline to serve Greenwich, New Canaan, Stamford and Darien. ....

I would like to offer my insight into the views of Shelton Alderman Anthony Simonetti in his letter dated March 9. He states: “The recent short comings and criticisms of the SSTS are, however, not fair nor deserved.” The criticism is deserved, and every resident should be demanding answers.
Issues with the buses started before COVID. Service has been a problem since the BOE was forced to accept the city as their transportation supplier. When the city started in July 2019, bus drivers were driving their runs without having been properly vetted and drug tested. The first day of school in September 2019 was delayed because the city did not have enough drivers. Bus runs were overcrowded with students sitting in the aisles. There was an incident where a driver was pulled over, with kids on the bus, and removed for being drunk. There were times in 201 ....

At Tigín Irish Pub in Stamford, the busiest two weeks of the year normally fall between the city’s St. Patrick’s Day parade and March 17. Crowds of green-clad revelers descend upon the pub to enjoy drinks and Irish fare, with live music, dancing and drinking extending to an outdoor tent.
But almost exactly one year into the COVID-19 pandemic, Tigín isn’t planning an all-day party or hiring a band. Because of the state’s continued restaurant restrictions and safety protocols, and the pub’s own strict adherence to safety, the holiday will be just another day of business in 2021. ....

Thorntons franchises to remain open at Walkers Books in Stamford and Oakham

Chocolate franchises at Walkers Books in Stamford and Oakham are to remain open despite the closure of Thorntons stores in other locations.
Tim Walker, owner of the independent retailer of books, stationery and gifts, confirmed his high street shops will be unaffected by Thornton s announcement this week that it will close its 61 stores with 600 jobs at risk.
A decade ago Thorntons had 364 stores.
