And his “big tent” idea that suggests that Republicans who feel conflicted should keep the debate inside the tent will not solve the problem. If you are of the conservative bent, as am I, you will know the Republican Party is no longer a conservative political entity that stands for truth and justice for all. I remember when Sen. Ted Stevens and Sen. Dan Inouye were good friends. One was a Republican and one was a Democrat. They respected each other. And, if the story is correct, when confronted with a vote that they disagreed on, they chose to abstain, knowing that had they voted the result would be the same. They listened to each other’s arguments, and I would like to think that they learned a new perspective. ....

Mike Dunleavy’s chief of staff, Ben Stevens, is leaving the administration to take a job with ConocoPhillips Alaska, the governor’s office said in a written statement Wednesday morning. Stevens will become vice president of external affairs and transportation at ConocoPhillips Alaska, the announcement said. The company is the largest oil producer in Alaska. ConocoPhillips Alaska spokeswoman Natalie Lowman said Stevens will start his new job Monday. It wasn’t immediately clear when his last day at work in the governor’s office would be. ....
