ORGANISERS of a popular town festival have announced its lineup for this year’s extra special occasion. The guest list for Harwich International Shanty Festival was revealed, with a focus on the 400th anniversary of the Mayflower setting sail. The festival is set to take place from Friday, October 8 until October 10. The celebrations were postponed in 2020, but now many towns in England, as well as the Netherlands and USA, are planning to commemorate the special date. Pam Fitzgerald, the festival’s director, said she was “very excited” to be in a position to be able to confirm the lineup. “Planning this year’s festival has been challenging due to the uncertainty of the Covid situation,” she said. ....

Montcliffe Quarry PLANS to extend a quarry to extract 2.75 million tonnes of stone on moorland close to Rivington Pike have been resubmitted despite being unanimously rejected by councillors in March. Armstrongs Aggregates Ltd, which operates Montcliffe Quarry, Georges Lane, Horwich, asked for permission for an extension of approximately 3.2 hectares on green land to the north west of the existing quarry. Councillors on Bolton’s planning committee unanimously opposed the plans on March 4 saying it would have a harmful affect on greenbelt land and affect the openness of the nearby moors and hills. Earlier this month Armstrongs placed identical plans in front of Bolton Council by submitting a duplicate application. ....

Morrison’s in Parkeston, Harwich has handed over free sunflower seeds and bags of compost to the Dovercourt Community Allotment. The scheme, which is run by Community Voluntary Services Tendring and Harwich Town Council, opened in early 2020. It has since provided otherwise isolated residents with a lifeline and social activity and sees budding gardeners and farmers plant and harvest fresh produce. ....
