Hillsdale native will be featured at an art exhibition in Ann Arbor.

Visual artist Courtney Wollet, a Hillsdale native, will be featured at an upcoming exhibition in Ann Arbor.
The exhibit, through June 26, features her original mixed media work “Identity Blueprint” at The Gutman Gallery, 118 North 4th Avenue, downtown Ann Arbor, near Kerrytown. Hours for the exhibit are from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday.
Wollet, 25, also had work displayed at Hillsdale’s “Art Around Town” exhibition in 2018. She is a 2014 graduate of Hillsdale Academy and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018 with a major in communication and a minor in art and design.
“The work is a mixed-media self portrait that explores my identity through the countless, short-lived passions that have informed my sense of self since childhood,” Wollet said. “Each layer features drypoint illustrations of these interests, carefully printed on tissue paper. The layers are stacked like old blueprints, outlining the many seemingly unrelated paths I’ve wandered that have come together to shape who I am today."

Restoration on the Dawn Theater is spearheaded by a new group.

Hillsdale Daily News
HILLSDALE - As restoration continues on the Dawn Theater, a new group has formed as the community explores the historic process in creating "a new Dawn."
Ron Scholl, chairman of the new group, Friends of the Dawn Theater, notes that through the efforts and vision of key community leaders, downtown Hillsdale can become a showcase for its residents and a destination for those outside of the community.
"Shortly after the beginning of this year, we organized a small group of talented and motivated individuals under the name Friends of the Dawn Theater to spearhead efforts to support the Dawn Theater," Scholl said. "The mission of the Friends of the Dawn Theater is to: 'Promote community support, fundraising and programing for the revitalized Dawn Theater in downtown Hillsdale, Michigan.'”

Two local young artists will display artworks in Hillsdale.

'LISTEN TO THE ART'
Hillsdale Daily News
HILLSDALE - An afternoon of art, refreshments and conversation with two local young artists will provide the public with an opportunity to "Listen to the Art."
The event, organized by The Heritage Association of Hillsdale County, will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 at Rough Draft, 42 Union St., Hillsdale. Admission is free.
Co-organizer Connie Sexton said "Listen to the Art" is an art exhibit featuring local artists that was started by THA two years ago.
"We felt there was a void in the arts in Hillsdale, especially amongst local artists displaying their artworks," Sexton said. "Our organization wanted to help bring the community and local artists together and what better way by holding an art exhibit for all to enjoy!"
