Kyle Johnson led all scorers with 22 points for the Chargers, who improve to 4-9 overall, 3-9 in the Big 8. Reading nipped Bronson 54-53 on the Rangers’ home court. Four Vikings scored in double figures, led by 14 points from Jason Mullins. Mason Harris had 12 points and 11 rebounds, Aden Hathaway had 12 points and 11 assists, and Reagan Mayer had 11. Bronson dropped to 7-7 overall, 5-6 in the Big 8. Hillsdale Academy defeated visiting Quincy 63-40 in a last-minute addition to the schedule that became available when the Orioles’ scheduled game at Springport was scrubbed due to a COVID-19 quarantine situation and the Colts had to cancel their scheduled game against Tekonsha for similar reasons. Kyler Economou scored a team-high 24 points as Quincy fell to 5-8. ....
That has led to a number of changes affecting Branch County teams. First off, Quincy junior varsity and varsity girls basketball with Springport that were scheduled for Thursday night have been cancelled and will likely not be rescheduled. The Quincy JV and Varsity Boys Basketball teams with Springport for Friday are also off. The Orioles will now play at Hillsdale Academy on Friday night, March 12th. The J.V. game will start at 5:30 with the varsity game at 7:00 p.m..
The Bronson and Quincy wrestling teams will now be at Reading on Thursday night instead of at Springport with a 6:00 p.m. start. Each participant is allowed four people. Sign in will be at the door. ....

Quincy led 12-7 after one quarter and 26-21 at the half. Concord came roaring back with a 19-14 advantage in the 3rd to cut the Quincy lead to 42-40. The Orioles used a 14-6 fourth quarter to seal the victory which was sparked by 7 for 10 free throw shooting in crunch time. Besides Economou’s big night, Sam Sawyer played his best game as an Oriole as he scored 14 points. Kyle Rodesiler also grabbed five rebounds. The Orioles are now 3-1 overall, 2-1 in the Big Eight. They travel to Sand Creek for a 2:30 p.m. on Saturday afternoon. Sand Creek will be allowing up to 250 spectators. ....

Ron Scholl, chairman of the new group, Friends of the Dawn Theater, notes that through the efforts and vision of key community leaders, downtown Hillsdale can become a showcase for its residents and a destination for those outside of the community. Shortly after the beginning of this year, we organized a small group of talented and motivated individuals under the name Friends of the Dawn Theater to spearhead efforts to support the Dawn Theater, Scholl said. The mission of the Friends of the Dawn Theater is to: Promote community support, fundraising and programing for the revitalized Dawn Theater in downtown Hillsdale, Michigan. ” ....
LISTEN TO THE ART Hillsdale Daily News HILLSDALE - An afternoon of art, refreshments and conversation with two local young artists will provide the public with an opportunity to Listen to the Art. The event, organized by The Heritage Association of Hillsdale County, will be at 3 p.m. Feb. 21 at Rough Draft, 42 Union St., Hillsdale. Admission is free. Co-organizer Connie Sexton said Listen to the Art is an art exhibit featuring local artists that was started by THA two years ago. We felt there was a void in the arts in Hillsdale, especially amongst local artists displaying their artworks, Sexton said. Our organization wanted to help bring the community and local artists together and what better way by holding an art exhibit for all to enjoy! ....
