Castro residents and visitors looking for a place to satisfy their sweet tooth now have a new option. Turkish and Greek dessert shop Aegean Delights is now open at 545 Castro St, formerly Best in Show.
Aegean Delights is owned by the husband and wife team Petros and Dilber Dimitra Fanourgiakis. Dilber Dimitra is originally from Turkey and her husband is from Greece.
Dilber Dimitra explained that Aegean Delights is the combination of the two cultures, Turkish and Greek, that don t typically get along. We wanted to bring both sides of the Aegean Sea together, said Dilber Dimitra. ....

AUSTINTOWN H. Douglas Wilcox, 70, peacefully passed away Thursday, Feb. 4, 2021, at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Doug was born Sept. 6, 1950, the only son of Harrison Burky and Helen McClure Wilcox.
He was a lifetime resident of Austintown and a member of Austintown Community Church. While growing up in the church, an important part of his life was scouting. He worked hard to receive his God and Country award and subsequently his Eagle Scout award.
He enjoyed reading, outdoor activities, being with friends and crafts. Several of his creations received blue-ribbon awards at the Canfield Fair. He was a member of the World War II Heritage Society, Mahoning County Retired Teachers, Ohio Education Association, the Mahoning Valley Historical Society, M Club of Mount Union, 33rd Degree Club of the Valley of Youngstown and the Austintown Friends of the Public Library. Doug served as vice president and program chairman for the Friends for 11 years. ....

Goodfellows Club delivers on annual Christmas celebration

Despite COVID-19 and less than stellar weather, the Goodfellows Club delivered on their annual Christmas party on Saturday.
In 1916, Lawrence Hager of the Owensboro Inquirer began serving impoverished Owensboro children at Christmas. More than 100 years later, Hagerâs organization, known as the Goodfellows Club, continues to provide for needy children. The 104-year-old organization provides clothing, shoes, coats and emergency dental and medical care â year-round â along with a December Christmas party for children in need. All of the money raised each year goes to help children.
While not the 1,000-child spectacle that the beloved Christmas celebration usually boasts, roughly 300 area children between Owensboro Public Schools and Daviess County Public Schools arrived at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Saturday to receive their gifts, said Goodfellows President Bob Clark. ....
