Authorities investigate concerns for horse seen at MuleFest

Local authorities are investigating after concerns for a horse seen in last weekend’s MuleFest celebration swept across social media in recent days.
A series of social media posts on various platforms showed photographs of a rider atop a very thin horse.
The mounting inquiries about the horse and its seeming emaciation prompted a response from Maury County Mayor Andy Ogles, one of the event’s primary organizers.
The Hohenwald Police Department s administration confirmed a message from Chief Kip Kelsey that the department launched an investigation into the matter on Tuesday morning. The police department is working in conjunction with the sheriff s department and members of a local humane society. ....

The men and women of the Columbia Police Department honored their own Monday night, recognizing the region’s law enforcement who gave the ultimate sacrifice, while serving in the line of duty.
Held in recognition of Law Enforcement Memorial Week, the memorial service was prerecorded at Columbia’s Maury Hills Church, the city’s police precinct and a local park before being shared on social media Monday night.
This year’s event marked the second consecutive year that the event was held remotely as a precaution to prevent the spread of COVID-19. ....

Emergency responders and service providers in southern Middle Tennessee continue to navigate internet and phone service outages following Friday s bombing in downtown Nashville.
Maury County s emergency communications department issued a statement Sunday morning explaining that the county s regular emergency lines were still down, offering alternative numbers to contact the region s first responders.
While some of you may have had your AT&T service restored, we are still experiencing issues with receiving 911 calls through the 911 system, the department said in a statement posted on social media.
In case of an emergency, those in need of assistance in the Maury County area should call (931) 982-8137 and (931) 982-8136. ....

Services and utilities pivot as outages continue after Nashville bombing

Emergency responders and service providers in southern Middle Tennessee continued to navigate internet and phone service outages following Friday’s bombing in downtown Nashville with the region s emergency lines starting to return to regular service on Monday afternoon.
We just have a few more checks, said Jeff Hardy, Maury County s director of emergency management.
Maury County s 911 communications lines were functioning as normal Monday afternoon, but Hardy said the county may continue to experience some outages due to the repair work that is continuing in and around Nashville.
We will continue to monitor the alternate contact numbers, Hardy said. ....
