Pashtun Clan Demands Protection From Taliban In Pakistan June 14, 2021 Share share Print JANI KHEL, Pakistan In a desperate attempt to force authorities to take action against the Taliban, members of a Pashtun clan in western Pakistan are refusing to bury their dead and threatening to march on Islamabad. The primary demand of the Jani Khel, a 60,000-member clan of the larger Wazir Pashtun tribe, is for the government to completely rid the area of militants. But while the government had agreed to this in writing, members of the clan say this demand is far from being met. Their homeland, Jani Khel, a rural town near the western city of Bannu, is named after the clan. The region borders North Waziristan in close proximity to Afghanistan and is rife with rival Taliban groups years after Islamabad claimed victory in its domestic war on terrorism. ....
A senior Australian Defence Force officer has revealed details of how the Royal Australian Air Force deploys Israeli-owned drones for battlefield surveillance and to target anti-government Islamic fighters in Afghanistan. Wing Commander Jonathan McMullan says Australia is just buying hours on the Heron drones from a Canadian company that in turn leases them from IAI (Israel Aerospace Industries), which is wholly owned by the Israeli government. While enthusiastically endorsing the Heron s capabilities, Wing Commander McMullan was highly critical of the quality of training provided by Israeli and Canadian instructors to Australian drone crews. The unarmed Israeli Herons first entered RAAF service in Afghanistan in December 2009. ....
N Waziristan tribes agree to oust foreign fighters in 15 days Peshawar A representative jirga (tribal elders) of North Waziristan Agency on Friday agreed to oust foreign fighters from the area within 15 days as they assured Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Sardar Mehtab Ahmed Khan that all efforts would be made for restoration of peace in the agency. The North Waziristan Taliban, led by Hafiz Gul Bahadur had given a June 10 deadline to the government to avert a likely military offensive in the area following their Shura meeting last month. They had vowed to take up arms against the government in case a major operation was launched as it accused the authorities of breaking a non-aggression treaty with their tribes. ....
