The youngestjust eight in this weeks session years old. And the Legal Process has on allegations of anti semitism for the german side last season. In the labour party. But a complaint, rightly, that this thats after more than 60 labour was done behind closed doors. One of taken such a while, we know it does. England have all but peers took out an advert guarenteed a semifinal spot in the guardian criticising at the netball world cup. Jeremy corbyns response. The conflict in libya had escalated the criticisms of the trust was that kate grey is in liverpool, joining me now from westminster there is no opportunity to ask the that, dyeing the extradition process licence fee payers what they think. Having seen them beat even more but now this afternoon, as Trinidad And Tobago. Is our Political Correspondent nick. I was negotiating with key people on we heard from ian hopkins from greater Manchester Police finally its confirming that this has happened, its going to take something the board, we talked, but actually, that he was excited from libya are a lot of trading of insults. The board, we talked, but actually, unbelievable now to stop england. The formality of this is with the they can still mathematically not trust. The trust of the people in absolutely. The issue of qualify, but after a win, it appears anti semitism in the labour party is handed over to officers and he not going away. It has been back in the end he had to say yes or no. But arrived in the uk a short while ago. They are all but guaranteed a the headlines of the last week or so semifinal spot . Thats right. I after that Panorama Programme even your own executive boards were you heard there uk but he started suggesting that some of the claims not fully consulted before the think they can say they have almost decision was made . To go back to the made about an independent process certainly made it through to the werent quite what they seemed. Problem instead of just off at this press conference here by there has been a lot of anger in the decision was made . To go back to the problem instead ofjust looking at semifinals. To comfortably beat minutes. No. The reason this is talking about the Families Party about the response to that themselves. He said since the attack Trinidad And Tobago 72 46. They culminating in this advert in the looked a little subdued, perhaps not guardian newspaper. Direct attacks important you see you started in may 2017, our thoughts have been as sharp as they did againstjamaica criticising the process, we with the families of those lost on monday, which was a much more understand the governments process, and weve been critical of that, we loved ones and the hundreds who are on the not only party but on struggling with serious physical High Pressure match. But they did just want to understand the bbcs thejob asked of High Pressure match. But they did the job asked of them. There were process. Signs of the process was me injuries and deep psychological lots of changes going on on the Jeremy Corbyn specifically saying effects. They have always been courts. I think Tracy Neville was the labour Party Welcomes everyone negotiating with a small team in central to our investigation and process. Signs of the process was me negotiating with a small team irm aware of resting certain legs and irrespective of creed, age, gender will continue to be is so at all or sexual orientation, except, it executives. At one point, rona making sure her players were as times. That is very important, isnt fresh as possible. They were it . All those families affected by fairhead came to a meeting with the said, it seems dues. There is a lot this today see that this legal co mforta ble fresh as possible. They were comfortable shooting as usual, chancellor and some others, and then taking in this brilliant atmosphere me saying to her, this is what im in liverpool. Theyve continue to of personal stuff about Jeremy Corbyn in here. Really interesting process is moving on. Hashem abedi, as you heard from the chief send a message to the top teams like recommending, weve won these concessions, but you need to say co nsta ble as you heard from the chief constable there, is due to appear at who has signed this, a third of whether it is ok or not. So the australia and new zealand that westminster Magistrates Court england are here to go all the way labour peers in the house of lords. Final meeting the day the later. Now he is in this country and they will do so in a special announcement was made, it says the presumably the Legal Process, as you fashion. They enjoyed the director general and the executive celebrations at the end, theyve had say, goes into full swing and we are have worked together on a strategic to recover quickly because it will it seems jews. Plan to make sure that the bbc are be back here tomorrow against south able to live with them on actual governed by the restrictions they are saying that it is not true, para meters able to live with them on actual parameters and make changes to its surrounding that. Absolutely. We are services that would be required in africa, a much tougher match, but Jeremy Corbyn is taking the issue an xstrata period. So that suggest seriously and that the reception is assuming south africa beat uganda the bbc trust had been reassured by later this afternoon, it means that quite hostile to the labour leader waiting to hear when we will appear england should also qualify for the but it is something that labour have you you could make this work . We at westminster Magistrates Court a back foot are on the back foot which will be the very first start semifinals as well. Theyve all we re you you could make this work . We were absolutely clear with the waiting for that result. Theyre in that process and of course the with. Upsides and downsides of this. The families will be very keen to see pretty much certain to go through, just today, 60 distinguished members downsides was inflation for the first time in a decade. Getting rid though. Almost job done for england. Of the labour party have written in how long this will take and from of the broadband levy, as you said, that there have not been any and an important day as well for the newspapers, the labour party inquests into those who died either. And also plugging the iplayer scotland . Yes, scotland will be welcomes everybody. It is very important to them that loophole, which the government after two years, didnt actually fully do. And it is very important to them that after two yea rs, they it is very important to them that playing jamaican, a very tough match after two years, they see this legal for them. Only won one of their four process moving on. Theresa may keeping us in play for the charter except, it seems, jews. Of negotiations, which were in the middle of. One bit of context i want matches here, jamaica will not be easy. They have a lot to take from this is your legacy, mr corbyn. You this match, if they win, they are have not opened your eyes, you have you to understand, and im sure you talking about this development in not told the whole truth, you have the last hour. Still in with a chance of making the do, is that this was a matter of not told the whole truth, you have not accepted your responsibility. Weeks into a new conservative semifinals, but scotland are looking you have failed the test of for that top eight position. I dont government, a majority conservative we all know it was an appalling, leadership. Apologise now. Mr government, a majority conservative government, at a time of the height senseless attack and this is clearly of austerity, and we were making know if they will have enough to an important moment in the judgments about what seemed appropriate at the time and the investigation. I hope it is a beat the girls from jamaica, but that match is next and it sounds height of that austerity, and thats welcome step for the loved ones or speaker, this party was the first to like its going to be welcomed onto why we were able to say, yes, we all of the victims. Those people who introduce anti racist legislation the court now. Enjoy the atmosphere into law in britain. This party recommend this, but the policy for have commanded themselves which such the other 75 is coming to us, the there, more than that to come. Dignity through what has been a thats all the sport for now. Totally opposes racism in any form government has given us doubts, and deeply distressing and difficult asJohn Whittingdale has made clear whatsoever. Anti semitism has no time, and conducted themselves with in his statements, they knew and we that dignity as they search for knew that meant reform as long as we place in our society, no place in could consult and go through the justice. I want to thank all of now on afternoon live, any of our parties and no place in lets go nationwide proper processes. But if i were a those who have worked so hard to and see whats happening around the country in our daily visit our dialogue. Neither does any other member of the bbc trust at that time come to this point and no doubt will to the bbc newsrooms around the uk. Andi member of the bbc trust at that time and i had been in that meeting, i continue to work hard. I think what lets go to Donna Traynor youre now need to see is to see from newsline in Northern Ireland, imaginei and i had been in that meeting, i imagine i would have been reassured who joins us today from form of racism. And when 60 of tory to know that you thought you could make this work. That you felt that royal portrush ahead of the first that all involved in this case are day of the open. Able to see that the case is brought Party Members think islam is a the negotiations with the threat to western civilisation, and government, this plan could work. To the court. Youve tweeted that youre having a whether the trust knew this had gone bad hair day, ithink to the full executive board, i dont youve tweeted that youre having a bad hair day, i think thats the least of your worries the Prime Minister has said she will know. Certainly the impression the meeting was that you thought this and also out of the office today we have north west could work. You said later in the tonights annabel tiffin, act on islamophobia within her own a man has been convicted over joining us from this years rhs party, i hope she does, i look day in an interview about the deal, the rape and killing of british tatton park flower show. So first lets speak teenager Scarlett Keeling forward to seeing that being dealt in the indian holiday to donna ahead of the very resort of goa in 2008. Meaningful tournament. With as we will deal with any racism the conviction comes after a long farfrom being a cut, the way this trial and campaign by scarletts family to reopen the investigation. My my script says there are huge crowds that occurs within our own party as financial settlement is showing gives us effectively licensee income Samson Dsouza was found guilty of charges including assault, there are, are there . There actually well. Destruction of evidence and providing narcotics. A second man was cleared full of sound and fury, this, across the First Quarter of the are huge crowds. This is a practice signifying i do not know what. What charter. When you appeared in front day, theyve been practising since of the select committee that autumn, of involvement. Sunday. Tomorrow, the competition about islamophobia, what did theresa you said this was a better financial may have to say about that . We have sta rts sunday. Tomorrow, the competition starts for real. But the rn is a settle m e nt you said this was a better financial settlement than the previous one. Heard reports of the conservative party struggling to deal with this i hope you can see me under the yes, it was. The 2010 settlements, issue. As well as specific cases of hood donein the royal and ancient said they had yes, it was. The 2010 settlements, done in exactly the same way Scarlett Keeling was on holiday in conservative members raising their a Record Number of visitors at port but the wrong way, but ill set concerns, be it online, comments aside goa and it was said that she died by 2496 aside 24 of the budget is what the bbcs accidental drowning but the case was rush. That beats all attendance being raised by people claiming to budget would have been if it has moved to indias Central Bureau of being raised by people claiming to be conservatives or what you heard Jeremy Corbyn refer to their art investigation, the cbi. The case which suggest that a lot of tory gone up in line of inflation. It was went to a court in 2016 and two men records at all the opens by st andrews, which is the home of golf. Members are not comfortable with the 2496 gone up in line of inflation. It was 24 less because we took on the cost number of muslims in the uk. Theresa we re went to a court in 2016 and two men were acquitted of any involvement in of the world service, bbc her death but after an appeal, so clearly from the r as point of mays argument is they deal with it, monitoring, we took on a large proportion of the costs of a saucy 39 year old Samson Dsouza was today view, it has been a success to hold they have a process. Both are parties, though, are facing and also the governments then idea found guilty of culpable homicide. It here on the north coast at the role port rush golf course. It accusations on different issues and of regional television. The costs i think some people outside also the destruction of evidence and westminster might be looking at that really is not being nice being a thinking it was an odd spectacle at providing narcotics to scarlett Television Presenter and a day like of regional television. The costs of 54c. That was the stark reality keeling among other charges. Another this, the weather has really points. They were trading barbs on changed. But there are thousands of of 54c. That was the stark reality people from all over the world who was the least racist, whose of the 2010 settlements. Once we man was cleared of all charges. We re of the 2010 settlements. Once we were doing, and ill explain the walking along the course is the party at the bigger problem. Safe to things we got wrong in that Scarlett Keelings mother said today players go through their practice say at the moment, certainly in assessment, we were saying it would bea that she was delighted but rounds. Ive met people from terms of internal pressure, jeremy assessment, we were saying it would be a broad flat cash settlements disappointed with the verdict and bermuda, australia, israel, america. Corbyn is facing a lot from his over five years. What we didnt take also added that the indian party on how he deals with this theyve all dont have the gear and into consideration, because life authorities had put her through issue and theres going to be a lot moves on, one, it was cpi but are dedicated fans. They love the of desire within the party over the hell. Open, it is the pinnacle in the next few days for him to get more of proportion of the bbc plasma world of golf, and all the biggest weve heard from theresa may on our a grip on it, there will be a big budgets, because money was coming main story but she has been speaking meeting of the shadow cabinet on more broadly. She used stars, rory mcilroy, tiger woods, from the government is. Inflation, monday to discuss anti semitism and Graeme Mcdowell after that, he will go to the all the guys are here, to see if executive and try to come up with and the metre has been much higher used to warn they can beat each other but more of the divisive tone some new processes to deal with the than cpi, because of the tax credits and substance of british so, if they can beat the weather. And international politics. Issue. You may be hearing from and so on coming into this country. She said it had descended into an absolutism, theresa may a little later today as where if you shout long theyre not the only ones competing enough and loud enough against that, donna this is a big well. Yes, she is making a speech on inflation in the media has been you get your way in the end. Much higher. The government did not the state of politics. I wish i and she went on to say that certain values have become dealfor northern against that, donna this is a big could tell you more, i do not know deal for Northern Ireland, against that, donna this is a big dealfor Northern Ireland, 1951, the plug the iplayer loophole in the way unfashionable of late, including last time the open came here. What much more at the moment because they they said they would, which meant we does it mean for the area . 1951, are being very tight lipped about a willingness to compromise. Only got half the money coming in. It. Theresa may is trying to build it was always assumed we would look she said her greatest regret was not something of a legacy. Not easy. Yes. A lot has changed in northern at the over 75 is, John Whittingdale most people will remember her as the made that clear in what he was ireland since that time, and a lot Prime Minister who failed to deliver saying, and we would look back at has changed for the open, it is brexit. She has spoken a lot in the that as well. We would take on the getting brexit through. That was a bigger and better than anytime last couple of weeks about this policy, and willingly, but it was before. You can imagine those years of not having this prestigious and issue of compromise, finding ways to moment of reflection from theresa agree with each other in politics. Coming and we couldnt do anything may on the speech where she about it. And actually consult and old est of we saw it at pm cues, a lot of acknowledged the failure on of not having this prestigious and oldest of the tenements in the world delivering on the result of the then decide what was best for the of golf, not having it here. A lot polarisation at the moment i would referendum and getting the deal she not be surprised if we are more from bbcs point of view for both the of golf, not having it here. A lot negotiated with the eu through of money has been pumped in in the Prime Minister on how to deal over 75 is licence payers and those parliament but apart from that it regards to infrastructure and all with that. We saw it at pmqs. Was really slightly depressing and the support services. It is a big below. Regardless of how the process sceptical take on the state of deal, notjust for golf, politics here in the uk and around a man has accepted responsibility for the killing of a heavily was wrong, and weve been critical the world, speaking about the lack the support services. It is a big deal, not just for golf, because the support services. It is a big deal, notjust for golf, because the island of ireland is golf mad. Its pregnant woman, the old bailey of that, it looks as though there has been negotiated with the bbc, good for golf in Northern Ireland has been told. You have won concessions from the of compromise between people from and for tourism port back out he is the former partner of 26 year different parts of the political old kelly mary fauvrelle, government, they have got you to tourism officials are hoping that who was eight months pregnant spectrum, saying she was worried people will come for the golf but ta ke government, they have got you to take on responsibility for the other about the state of politics and when she was killed at her home. Also to see all the other tourist her baby riley was delivered at 755. You have broadly welcomed the the scene but died four days later. Settle m e nt 755. You have broadly welcomed the settlement is better than the 0ur correspondent, attractions that Northern Ireland leigh milnerjoins us now previous one and brief the bbc trust substance at the moment. And she from outside the old bailey. Has to offer. At you mention rory boards that the executive is going also spoke about a rise of mcilroy, this is a course he knows to come up with a strategy to make absolutism and an unwillingness from people to engage with others with rather well . He does know it well, this work. I dont see any well, 25 year old Aaron Mckenzie whom they disagree, and dismiss out arrived at the old bailey today wearing a black tracksuit charged indication hear, here that you were with the murder of his pregnant of hand other peoples opinions. She all the guys across Northern Ireland not anything other than 5atisfied. Know it well. Graeme mcdowell is a touched on other International Areas ex girlfriend kelly mary fauvrelle. As well, both the Iran Nuclear Deal local lad, from port rush, and he inside the courtroom, he accepted responsibility for her killing. What which is negotiated by various grew up with golf. There was a doubt weve been told so far by the police that graham might not qualify for that is absolutely not true. We were is that on the morning of the 29th different countries, the paris taking on the policy of the other climate agreement, both of those the open, but we saw him talking ofjune, very early on, they heard 755. I want to be clear about this, today, he has qualified. Were screams come from the downstairs things are things the us has bedroom. That was in fact kelly who iremember 755. I want to be clear about this, i remember exactly the words of the hoping that one of the local lads disengaged in and pulled away from. Then chancellor, which was, you are was pregnant, eight months pregnant going to have to go there and though she later said during the will win, but you never know. One question and answer session that i should say, who had just been socialise this policy, because it is should not be interpreted by her or stabbed to death. The ambulance going to be difficult for you. John by people as a direct criticism by thing, im not a golfer myself, im crews u nfortu nately stabbed to death. The ambulance crews unfortunately could not bring whittingdale made it clear in the learning a lot and i was learning her back to life but they did manage commons. I made it clear before her of president donald trump. She coming to this committee in the did have a lot to say, though, about about the golf terms, the holes that to deliver her little baby boy who autumn of that year when i think the tone of the discourse in are here in portrush. One is called was named riley by the family. John nicholson said to me, what sort politics in the uk at the moment. Calamity jane, another is called u nfortu nately after was named riley by the family. Unfortunately after spending five daysin of reforms will you be looking at . I purgatory. A lease on i will unfortunately after spending five days in hospital, he sadly passed saidi of reforms will you be looking at . I said i cant say, we will have to and the way in which politicians go away. This incident was actually work it out over a period of years. About their business. Leave that one for you. Im going to raised in parliament at the time and then he said to me, what about means testing . And i said im not this descent of our debate talk to annabel to fend for abates, during Prime Ministers questions by into rancour and tribal bitterness, but i need you to stay there because the labour mp stephen reed whose saying there could be, im not and in some cases, even vile abuse saying there could be, im not at a criminal level, i will thank you at the end we are constituency actually concludes the saying there could be, im not saying there cant be, we have to is corrosive to the Democratic Values which we should place where this happened. He work that out. Completely consist about the reforms we would need to all be seeking to uphold. Talking about the rhs tatton flower challenged the Prime Minister, make were we to live within the it risks closing down the space asking her to do more to tackle for reasoned debate and subverting the principle of freedom of speech. Show, but today special for a knife crime. Aaron mckenzie will be budget parameter sets. The special reason . Having been extradited from libya. Well. Its not a way i write figure of what, in actual terms, you hashem abedi was arrested by the anymore. I do a lot of editing of british authorities this afternoon the and that. Back then, it was feel the benefits of this shortly after his plane landed concessions you won were . Thats why at a london airport. And here is the police van taking him into a south almost a stream of consciousness so we put a figure of 250 on what we London Police station ido almost a stream of consciousness so just a little earlier i do not know what that says about think we should be doing to support this afternoon. Me then or what it says about me now abedi had already been charged the over 755 concession is a board. With the murder of the 22 victims, but here we are. Let me ask you, how attempted murder and conspiracy do you think you have changed in to cause an explosion likely to endanger life. He was detained in libya in the days that time . And what happened to her . No, what im asking is this after his older brother if you write a song like that about concessions at the bbc won in the salman abedi killed 22 people at an Ariana Grande concert in 2017. Somebody, that must have been quite discussion, the iplayer loophole, a relationship. I spent most of the emissions, demand is growing reality has not been worth it to the for electric cars, that was leigh milner reporting fly but many people still have bbc or will it be worse by the concerns about how long it songs before. I spent most of the from the old bailey. Takes to charge them. Songs that i write about youre watching afternoon live, today, a network of faster relationships work when time. . These figures are at the sales of electric cars in uk have bittersweet emphasis, may be more on of the Manchester Arena bomber been growing steadily is arrested on suspicion the sadder side of things. Theres of murdering the 22 victims over the past few years. Time is the decisions were made. My after being extradited from libya. Yet they still only make up about 3 not that many love songs ive in her last major speech written. I do not think its a good as Prime Minister, of all new registrations. Theresa may says shes worried point is, their assumptions at the about the state of politics for many motorists, the thought of using them for time to reflect when youre happy, time, but those assumptions have and public debate here and abroad. Longerjourneys brings anxiety worked out. I think that is a a man has been convicted in india about how long it takes we reflect better when we have a to recharge the battery. Little bit of sadness about things over the rape and killing of british teenager Scarlett Keeling perfectly reasonable po5ition, in goa in 2008. Close encounter with a humpback while the number of charging points but we are still friends, by the worked out. I think that is a perfectly reasonable position, and i think it also reflects that, at the whale ill be talking has increased rapidly to the 14 year old who saw this way. But not together. Im single, time in 2015, you might of been giant pop out of the sea over the past two years, 5lightly time in 2015, you might of been slightly more bullish about the the time it takes to fill up ability to get this through without of the coast of ireland. For better or and in sport, after his world cup performances, batsmenjason roy has earned a call up to the test squad. A family car up to about 80 ina more these figures may have been centred in a more favourable light, in which in roughly 45 minutes, worse. Hopefully better. I edit a case the money would have been there and offset the obligation 5he case the money would have been there and offset the obligation she would have to take on. But it isnt worked the ashes begin on the 1st of depending on conditions. Lot more and take care over every august. Steve bruce has been word but back then it was more of these new superchargers, though, out that way, and so while its it promise to cut that time to just eight minutes. Just letting the song take me where appointed as manager of newcastle it wanted. In many ways, it was used i5 out that way, and so while its it is understandable you felt the united, a move criticised by fine were saying that high power government which are in a position groups for a lacking ambition, and charging will be identical we had no choice, but i also think england are on course to book a to petrol engine cars. For promos for Television Shows like semifinal spot in the netball world you entered into it thinking you could deliver it. We could. Released this year are built to take we had to go through a consultation a charge that quickly. Been a big benefit to us. Notjust and it might have gone the other way although the pump will automatically for chasing cars but for the likes if other things to do with cpi and reduce the power to match inflation in the Media Industry and the us house of representatives what the vehicle can manage. Has voted to condemn other things worked out ok, we could President Trump as racist, after he told four non white, so this current car, until now, democratic congresswomen to go back will charge at 150 kilowatts of run and open your eyes. All of probably get through, thats what we to the countries they came from. In around 30 minutes orjust under. Our hits, a lot of them have been thought. But life does not work out every democrat in the house supported the symbolic resolution, further down the line, success all because of radio. We are that way. Thats lord hall, which said the president had lucky to get them played as much as legitimised hatred in about a years time, but only four republicans backed it. There will be another vehicle that we do but i think it is also like tv three of the congresswomen involved were born in america; sometimes angry exchange and i5 the fourth is a us citizen. In a moment shell be telling mo5t over 755, i feel strongly that kind of have a massive effect on this must not happen again. It us whats hot and whats not in the business news. Songs that are on there. Tv does first, a look at the headlines happens over a period of a few days on afternoon live have a massive effect on music. And behind closed doors. I think when it hashem abedi the brother of the Manchester Arena bomber is arrested on suspicion of murdering the 22 victims comes to 2021, next time it is negotiated, it needs to be in plain after being extradited from libya. They should love our country. Sight with parliamentary involvement in her last major speech it has managed to do that for us. But it is a weather system coming in she is in the final days of her towards the north west. Northern ireland, last day of the gulf, could premiership, what can we expect to well see the rain coming in and the say . Well, this is part of a continued effort by the prime wind picking up. For the golf. Minister to frame her legacy and, as for some it is going to turn quite 00 33 08,695 4294966103 13 29,430 hot. That is your latest forecast. You said, the final days of her time in office. Your tour this will be a speech about the state of politics here in the uk and abroad but beyond that we know very little about what the Prime Minister is actually going to say. I think we can expect some broad themes about the rise of populism here in the uk, europe, perhaps in United States as well, and also the lack of compromise and increased polarisation in Politics Around the world. Those are themes which have beset theresa mays premiership to a large extent with her failure premiership to a large extent with herfailure to reach premiership to a large extent with her failure to reach a compromise premiership to a large extent with herfailure to reach a compromise in parliament over brexit and get her deal over the line. It may be a chance for theresa may to get something off her chest, the frustration to that end, but we will have to wait and hear what she has to say because this is probably the penultimate set piece speech that the Prime Minister will make aside from her farewell farewell words on the steps of ten downing st when she leaves office next wednesday. There will be Prime Ministers questions that they as well the time is running out for theresa may to frame her legacy and tell people what she thinks of the state of things as she prepares to step down from office. Of course she has had a Lively Exchange and pm cues with Jeremy Corbyn in Prime Ministers questions withJeremy Corbyn. She will be there next week as well, wont she . That is right, that will be part of a highly choreographed final day in office for theresa may. We will know by then the results of the conservative Party Leadership contest whether it is borisjohnson jeremy hunt who be walking into number ten after she walks out but that will be her final moment in parliament as Prime Minister, but this, as i say, is part of a series of events really well theresa may has sought to remind people that there has been more to her premiership and her failure to reach a brexit deal, get it through parliament and deliver on the result of that referendum. She tried to get the Domestic Abuse bill into parliament in time for it to have passage through, she has tried to highlight her increased funding to get through the Health Service and social justice as well. Get through the Health Service and socialjustice as well. Broader themes from theresa may and we are expecting a question and answer session after the speech as well so it will be interesting to see what she says then. Thank you, to the Prime Minister. This will most likely be the last time i will speak at length as Prime Minister and i would like today to share some personal reflections on the state of politics in our country and around the world. Now, ive lived politics for half a century, from stuffing envelopes for my local party in my school years to serving as a local councillor, fighting a by election, winning a seat. Fighting for 12 yea rs on winning a seat. Fighting for 12 years on the opposition front bench and for nine years in the cabinet as home secretary and Prime Minister. Throughout that time, in everyjob ive done, ive been inspired by the enormous potential that working in politics and taking part in public life holds. The potential to serve your country, to improve peoples lives. And to try, in a smaller way, to make the world a better place. Looking at my own country and you will which we form a part, and is a good deal to feel optimistic about for the globally, over the last 30 yea rs, for the globally, over the last 30 years, extreme poverty and Child Mortality have both been hull. Hundreds of millions of people are today living longer, happier and healthier lives and their gran than their grandparents could even dream. Asa than their grandparents could even dream. As a world, we have never cared more deeply about the ecology of our planets environment. From treating the earth is a collection of resources to be plundered, we have, within a generation, come to understand its fragile diversity and taking concerted action to conserve it. The uk is leading the way in that effort with our commitment to net zero emissions. Social attitudes in our country and many of the western countries have transformed in recent decades. There are more women in senior positions today than at any women in senior positions today than atany time women in senior positions today than at any time in history. When i was born, it was a crime to be a gay man, legal to discriminate on the basis of six or race and casual bigotry was a socially acceptable fa ct of bigotry was a socially acceptable fact of daily life. All that has changed and greatly for the better. There remains a long, long way to go to achieve what we should rightly seek an economy, society and world that truly works for all of its people. Where everyone has the security of a safe home i do love to eat, the opportunity to get a good education and a satisfying job to support their family. And the freedom of thought, speech and action to do and be everything their talent and hard work fit them for. The generation of young people growing up today in the uk and around the world have it within their grasp to achieve more in the decades ahead than we today can imagine. They will have the chance to harness the great drivers of change in the world today from Artificial Intelligence and the data economy, cleaner forms of energy and more efficient modes of transport to the technological and medical advances that would extend and improve our quality of life. The 21st ce ntu ry improve our quality of life. The 21st century has the potential to be a Pivotal Point in human history, and economic, social and Technological Progress reach a combined apogee with the benefits multiplied and with everyone sharing. Enjoying a share. It will not come about without effort. We will all have to work hard, individually and collectively, to reach that better future. Crucially, the full power and potential of a small but strong and strategic state must be brought to bear in that effort, establishing and maintaining the legal and economic structures that allow a regulated free market to flourish. Coordinating its own interventions to maximum effect, supporting science and innovation, supplying crucial Public Services and infrastructure, leading and responding to social progress. At our best, that has been the story of the democratic century that we celebrated last year when we mark the first votes for women and working men in 1918. It has been Democratic Politics and open market economy, the enduring values of free speech, the rule of law, and a system of government founded on the concept of invaluable human rights that has provided the nexus of that progress in the past. And a healthy body politic will be essential to consolidating and extending that progress in the future. It is on that score that today we do have grounds for serious concern. Both domestically and internationally, in substance and in tow, im worried about the state of politics. That worry stems from a conviction that the values on which all our su ccesses the values on which all our successes have been founded cannot be taken for granted. When they look to us as old as the hills, we might think they will always be there. But establishing the superiority of those values over the alternatives that was the hard work of centuries. And ensure that liberal inheritance that we today have a responsibility to be active in conserving. If we do not, we will all pay the price. Rich and poor, strong and weak, powerful and poor, strong and weak, powerful and powerless. As a politician, my decisions and actions have always been guided by that conviction. It used to be asked of applicants at conservative candidate selection meetings, are you a conviction politician or are you a pragmatist . I have never accepted that distinction. Politics is the business of turning your decisions into reality to improve the lives of the people you serve. As a conservative, ive never had any doubt about what i believe in, security, freedom and opportunity, decency, moderation, patriotism, conserving what is of value but never shying away from change. Indeed, recognising that often changes the way to conserve. Believing in business but Holding Businesses to account if they break the rules. Backing ambition, aspiration and hard work. Protecting our union of nations and being prepared to act in its interest, evenif prepared to act in its interest, even if that means steering a difficult political cause. And remaining always firmly rooted in the Common Ground of politics where all race Political Parties should be. I didnt write about those convictions and pamphlets make many theoretical speeches about them. I sought to put them into action. Actually getting things done rather than simply getting them said requires some qualities that have become unfashionable of late. One of them is a willingness to compromise. That does not mean compromising your values, it does not mean accepting the lowest common denominator or clinging to out loaded ideas out of apathy orfear, clinging to out loaded ideas out of apathy or fear, it means clinging to out loaded ideas out of apathy orfear, it means being driven by and when necessary standing upforyour driven by and when necessary standing up for your values and convictions. But doing so in the real world , convictions. But doing so in the real world, in the arena of public life where others are making their own case and pursuing their own interests. And where persuasion, teamwork and a willingness to make mutual concessions are needed to achieve an optimal outcome. That is politics at its best. The alternative is a politics of winners and losers, of absolutes and of perpetual strife, and that threatens us all. Today, an inability to combine principles with pragmatism and makea combine principles with pragmatism and make a compromise when required, seems to have driven a whole political discourse down the wrong path. It has led to what is in effect a form of absolutism, one which believes that if you simply assert your view loud and often long enough, you will get your way in the end. 0r enough, you will get your way in the end. Or that mobilising your own faction is more important than bringing others with you. This is causing our public debate. My coarsening of public debate. Some are disagreeing without demeaning the views of others. Online Technology Allows people to express their anger and anxiety without filter or accountability. Aggressive assertions made without regard to the facts or the complexities of an issue. In an environment where the most extreme views tend to be the most extreme views tend to be the most noticed. This descent of art debate into rancour and tribal bitterness, and in some cases even a vile abuse at a criminal level, is corrosive for the Democratic Values which we should all be seeking to uphold. It risks closing down the space for reasoned debate and subverting the principle of freedom of speech. And this does not dot that mightjust create an unpleasant environment, words have consequences. Ill words that go unchallenged are the first step on a continuum towards ill deeds. Towards a much darker place where hatred and prejudice drive not only what people say but also what they do. This absolutism is not confined to british politics, it festers in politics all across the world. We see it in the rise of Political Parties on the far left and far right in europe and beyond. We see it in the increasingly adversarial nature of International Relations which some view as a zero gain where one country can only gain if others lose and we are power unconstrained by rules is the only currency of value. This absolutism at home and abroad is the opposite of politics at its best. It refuses to accept that other points of view are reasonable, it ascribes bad motives to those taking those different views. And it views anything less than 100 of what you want all the time as evidence of failure when success in fact means achieving the optimum outcome in any giving that my given circumstance. The sustainability of modern politics derives not from an uncommon absolutism but rather through the painstaking marking out of a Common Ground. That does not mean abandoning our principles, farfrom it, it means delivering on their with the consent of people on all sides of the debate, so they can ultimately accept the legitimacy of what is being done, even if it may not be the outcome they would initially have preferred. That is how social progress and International Agreement was forged in the years after the Second World War, both at home with the establishment of an enduring national Health Service and internationally with the creation of an International Order based on agreed rules and party lateral institutions. Multilateral institutions. Multilateral institutions. Consider the nhs, the beveridge report was commissioned by a coalition government, the Health Minister who published the first white paper outlining the principles ofa white paper outlining the principles of a comprehensive and free Health Service was a conservative, a Labour Government then created the nhs, engaging in fierce controversy both at the doctors who would work for the nhs and with a conservative opposition in the house of commons which supported the principles of an nhs but disagreed with the methods. The story does not end there. Just three years after the nhs was founded, churchills newly elected conservative government was faced with a choice between going back over old arguments. They chose to build on what had been established. Today, because people are willing to compromise, we have an nhs to be proud of, an institution which unites our country. Similarly on an international stage, many of the agreements that underpinned the rules based International Order in the aftermath of the Second World War were reached by pragmatism and compromise. The San Francisco conference which adopted the United Nations charter, the cornerstone of international law, almost broke down over soviet systems that a council veto should apply notjust to counsel revolutions but also to whether the council should discuss a matter. It was only a personal mission to stalin in moscow, Harry Hopkins that persuaded the soviets to back down. Many states who are not and members of the Security Council do not want devito to exist at all. But they compromised and signed the charter because of the bigger prize that represented a global system that enfranchise the people within the world with new rights that was only recognisable in countries like ours. To veto. It is these landmarks are agreements that created the International Order we will always hold that are as permanent as the hills. But turning ideals into practical agreements was hard fought, and we cannot be complacent about ensuring that they endure. Indeed, the current failure to combine principles with pragmatism and compromise inevitably risks undermining them. We are living through a period of profound change and insecurity, the forces of global. As the markets have brought unprecedented opportunities of wealth for the country at large but not everyone is reaping the benefits. The march of technology is expanding the possibilities for humanity in ways that ones could never humanity in ways that ones could never ones could never have been conceived. It is changing the nature of the workplace and the type of jobs people can do. More and more working people are feeling anxious over whether they and their children and grandchildren will have the skills and opportunities to get on. And although the problems were building before the financial crisis, it is a hardship from which we are only now own emerging. Seizing the opportunity that opportunity to capitalise on that value. They have sees the politics of division, identifying the enemy is to blame for our problems and offering apparently easy answers. In doing so, they promote a polarised politics which views the world through the prism of others and them. A prism of winners and losers which views the compromise and cooperation through International Institutions as signs of weakness, not strength. President putin expressed this clearly on the eve of the summit injapan when he said the liberal idea baker that might has become obsolete because it came into the conflict of interest of the overwhelming majority of the population. This is a cynical falsehood. Comparing the economic success of liberal economies of uk, france and germany to that of the russian system we conclude that our system is obsolete but he feels emboldened to artery today indicating the challenges we face as we seek to defend our values. If we stand up for those values that are funding our life, we need to legitimise peoples concerns by giving Actual Solutions that command public consent rather than populist promises that any end are not solutions at all. In doing so, we need to show politics of a pragmatic conviction that is unafraid of compromise and cooperation is the best way in which politics can sustainably meet the challenges they face. Take some of the concerns and address them. The far left, including the leadership of our once proud British Labour party, would argue that we should scrap an open market altogether. And we should be in no doubt that if we cannot successfully create an economy that works for all, people will increasingly reject it in favour of an alternative. No matter what the wider economic and social consequences are. We know it is free and competitive markets that drive the innovation, creativity and risk taking that that have enabled so many advances of our time. You know it is business that pioneers the industries of the future, secures the investment of what that future much of which that future depends, creating livelihoods for families up and down our country. We know that Free Enterprise can also play a crucial role in helping to meet some of the greater social challenges of our time. From contributing to the sustainability of our planet to generating new growth and new hope in areas of our country that have been left behind. You do not protect the concept of free market capitalism by failing to respond to the legitimate concerns of those who are not feeling its full benefits. You protect free market capitalism and the benefits it can bring by reforming it so it works for everyone. That is why ive introduced reforms to introduce workers rights and reflect the changes in our economy. It is why i launch the taylor review into modern forms of employment like the gig economy and while we are delivering improvements in uk workers rights, the biggest in 20 yea rs, workers rights, the biggest in 20 yea rs , we workers rights, the biggest in 20 yea rs, we have workers rights, the biggest in 20 years, we have advance changes in Corporate Governance so businesses cannot only be about commercial success bringing wider benefits to the whole of our society, too. It is why we put in place a modern, industrial like a modern industrial like a modern industrial strategy, Strategic Partnership between business and government to ensure decisions that maintaina government to ensure decisions that maintain a longer success of our economy. But also a strategy to make sure that as we develop the industries of the future, so the benefits of the trade and growth they will give rise to, will reach working people not just they will give rise to, will reach working people notjust in some parts of the country but in every pa rt parts of the country but in every part of our country. These are steps rooted in my conservative political convictions, they are not a rejection of Free Enterprise but rather the very way to restore the popular legitimacy of Free Enterprise and make it work for everyone. I believe that taking such an approach is also how we resolve the brexit impasse. The only way to do so is deliver the outcome of the vote in 2016 and there is no greater regret for me than that i could not do so. Whatever path we take must be sustainable for the long term, so that delivering brexit means bringing our country back together, that has to mean some kind of compromise. Some argue i should have taken the compromise. Some argue i should have ta ken the united compromise. Some argue i should have taken the United Kingdom out of the European Union with no deal on the 29th of march. Some wanted a pure version of brexit, others to find a way of stopping it altogether. Most people across our country have a preference for getting it on with a deal. And i believe the strength of my deal that i negotiated was that a deliver than the leaving of the European Union while allaying the concerns of those who voted to remain. When it came to parliament ratifying the deal, are politics retreated back into its binary pre referendum positions, a winner ta kes all pre referendum positions, a winner takes all approach to leaving remaining. And when opinions have become polarised and driven by ideology, it becomes incredibly hard for a compromise to become a rallying point. The spirit of compromise at the common interest is also crucial in meeting some of the greatest global challenges of our time, from responsibly harnessing the huge potential at Digital Technology to tackling Climate Change, and for preventing the further proliferation of. To hostile states. During our premiership, the uk has led the way both ethically and internationally in seeking a new settlement which ensures the internet remains a driver of growth and opportunity but also that Internet Companies respond more comprehensively to reasonable and legitimate demands that they ta ke and legitimate demands that they take their wider responsibilities to our society more seriously. That is why we are legislating in the uk to create a legal duty of care on Internet Companies backed up by an independent regulator with the power to enforce its decisions. We are the first country to put forward such an approach and such a comprehensive approach. But it is not enough to act alone. Ultimately, we need a realistic global approach that achieves the right balance between protecting the individual freedoms of those using the internet while also keeping them safe from harm. That also holds the key to further progress in the fight to protect our planet. Here in the uk, we recently built on the 2008 Climate Change act by becoming the first major economy to agree a landmark net zero target that will end our contribution to Climate Change by 2050. Of course, some wonder does notjust to make that net zero commitment but to bring it forward even earlier. And there are others who still question there are others who still question the science of Climate Change, or the science of Climate Change, or the Economic Cost of tackling it. But we were able to come together to agree a target that is supported across the political spectrum, cross business and Civil Society and which is both ambitious and also deliverable. Abedi just as the nations of the world were able to come together agree the historic paris agreement, if this was to unravel, it would damage our planets. And we seek to protect the hard fought damage our planets. And we seek to protect the hard fought paris agreement, sorry also believe we should protect the nuclear deal was wrong, whatever its challenges. Nuclear deal with iran. 0f wrong, whatever its challenges. Nuclear deal with iran. Of course, there are those that fear a reduction in sanctions on a country that continues to pursue to stabilising activity across the region, and we should address that activity head on. But whether we like it or not, the compromise deal remains the best way to get the outcome we all still seek. Preventing iran from acquiring a Nuclear Weapon and protecting the stability of the region. Being prepared to compromise also means knowing when not to compromise, and we must be willing to stand firm. Just as we did when russia deployed a deadly nerve agent on the streets of salisbury, and i led a movement to expel russian intelligence officers, the largest such explosion in history. We are here today at st james square, the location from which Dwight Eisenhower led the planning for d day. It was starting on the beaches of normandy with other World Leaders last month, remembering together all that was given in defence of our liberty and values, the most inspired me to come here today to give this speech. Eisenhower once wrote, people talk about the middle of the road as though it were unacceptable. Things are not all black and white, there have to be compromises. The middle of the road is all of the usable surface, the extremes, right and left, a re surface, the extremes, right and left, are in the gutters. I believe that seeking the Common Ground and being prepared to make compromises in order to make progress does not entail a rejection of our values and convictions by one iota. Rather, it is precisely the way to defend them. Not by making promises you cannot keep orjust not by making promises you cannot keep or just telling not by making promises you cannot keep orjust telling people what you think they want to hear, but by addressing concerns that people genuinely hold and showing that cooperation and not absolutism is the only way to deliver for everyone. For the future, the only way to deliver for everyone. Forthe future, if the only way to deliver for everyone. For the future, if we can reca ptu re everyone. For the future, if we can recapture the spirit of common purpose, as i believe we must, then we can be optimistic about what is coming together, we can achieve. We can find the Common Ground that will enable us to forge new, innovative, global agreements on the most crucial challenges of our time. From protecting our planet to harnessing the power of technology for goods. We can renew Popular Support for popular, Democratic Values and international cooperation. And in so doing, we can secure our freedom, our prosperity, and our ability to move together peacefully now and for generations to come. Thank you. Applause mark. Applause now, i will take some questions, from the media first, and then from the wider audience. John . Prime minister, you have spoken of your concern of a trend in politics, away from compromise, and towards populism and factionalism. To what extent have your concern sabine braun out about the contest to follow you as a leader and, if i may come up with an extension to brexit be to you, preferable, if it meant avoiding the immediate harm of a no deal brexit . Avoiding the immediate harm of a Nodeal Brexit . You got two questions in there first of all, these are ideas that i have been forming for some time now. They reflect what ive seen in politics across europe and the wider world. I have,in across europe and the wider world. I have, in many internationalfora, since i became Prime Minister, repeatedly raised the importance of the rules based International Order. Of the rules based International Order. Of us working together within frameworks that have enabled us to work peacefully on some of the great challenges that we face. On the second question, you know full well that my view is the best way forward is to leave the European Union with a good deal. I believe we negotiated a good deal. I believe we negotiated a good deal. I believe we negotiated a good deal, sadly, parliament did not take that view. It will be up to have my successor is to find a way through that and ensure we can deliver on the votes of the 2016 referendum and do it in a way that is good for the United Kingdom. Gary . Thank you. Can ijust ask is good for the United Kingdom. Gary . Thank you. Can i just ask you a couple of quick once. Laughter were all counting Philip Hammond hasjust said in a tweet were all counting Philip Hammond has just said in a tweet that were all counting Philip Hammond hasjust said in a tweet that he is terrified of people who look like they could be close to the next administration who think that no deal brings no short or medium term losses. Only gains. Do you share that terra . And could i ask you another one on the broader point of what youve been saying here do you bear any responsibility yourself or some of the corrosive language that you are attacking in your speech . Im thinking of the attacks on political elites, citizens of nowhere. And maybe globe language, like red, white and blue brexit. When you look back on the years as Prime Minister, is running through a wheat field still the naughtiest thing ever did . Laughter i think one of the silliest things ever did was answering that question i think that was three questions, rather than the two you promised. On the first point you made, as ijust said, ive consistently said that i believe the best route through it for the uk is for us to leave the European Union with a good deal. I also stand by what i had consistently said in that no deal is better than a bad deal. But i think we have a good deal, it will be for whoever succeeds me to find a way through parliaments view on that. I think the aim must still be to leave, to deliver on the result of the referendum, but in a way that is in the national interest. On the issue of language, as every phrase ive used as perfect as every phrase ive used as perfect as it should be . No. There will be phrases that people will have interpreted differently from what was intended, but the overall sense is that what we now see, and ive seen it developing over time, is a coarsening of the language in our political debate. And i worry. To ta ke political debate. And i worry. To take it to you one further ends of the spectrum, the way in which, for example, we see often female mps being attacked. People have been charged with criminal offences for the abuse, bullying and harassment they have given it to female mps because a particular views they have held. That has happened to some female mps and to others. What i think we need is to make sure. People are different opinions and wa nt people are different opinions and want things delivered in different ways, but lets have proper debates. Lets make clear why we disagree with people, but dont get to the stage we see all too often of ascribing bad motives to somebody who just happens to disagree with you or the way to do something. Rowena . Boris johnson describes your deal with the eu as dead and the Northern Ireland backstop as dead. And he says he wants to sort out the Northern Ireland border issue after leaving on october 31. Is that a sensible course of action as a strategy, or is he going to collide with reality, is one of your colleagues is put it . Do you think there will be a threat to the union if he proceeds along this path . Whoever succeeds me as Prime Minister will have to determine with discussions within a parliament and the eu as to how they take those negotiations forward. And to what end. If negotiations forward. And to what end. If ijust explain why i thought it was important to have the backstop, i negotiated the backstop, at the heart of the good friday agreement is an essential compromise that people who are irish can live in Northern Ireland as part of the United Kingdom, but on a day to day business, and their own business and personal activities, operate without any encumbrance on their operation across that border. I believe its important we are able to sustain that into the future. There are various descriptions of how that could be done, people are working actively on alternative Technological Solutions to the border issue, but that was why i thought that was important. Tom . Thank you. Manchester police have confirmed hashem abedi has been extradited back to the uk. Did you play any part in that and how important was it to see that on your watch before you go next week . In relation to your speech, you talk about absolutism at home and abroad, who are you referring to, particular names on that . And kitchen roll outs, you made no reference at all to either donald trump or Boris Johnson . On the first point that you raise, we all know that the attack that took place at the Manchester Arena was appalling and senseless, and this is really an important moment in the investigation. I hope it isa moment in the investigation. I hope it is a welcome step for the loved ones of the victims, people who have come themselves with such dignity through what has been a deeply distressing and difficult time for them. And conducted themselves with that dignity as they search for justice. I want to thank all of those who have worked so hard to come to this point, i no doubt will continue to work hard to. I think what we all now need to see is that all involved in this case are able to see that case progress and brought to the courts. On the issue of absolutism, this is a general observation that i have. Ive seen it in politics across the world, and i wanted to speak about it today, because i think it is important that we try to bring debate generally back into a more recent area reasoned area. People holding different views can have serious debate and discussion with each other. They may continue to disagree, but having that serious and reasoned debate is an important pa rt and reasoned debate is an important part of our politics, and that is one politics can be at their best and deliverfor one politics can be at their best and deliver for people. One politics can be at their best and deliverfor people. Ill take some questions from the rest of the audience. One at the back, there . Thank you. Im the director of title case thank you. Im the director of title case women thank you. Im the director of title case women to win, you set those up case women to win, you set those up when they were just 17 conservative women mps. Progress has beena conservative women mps. Progress has been a glazier or. We have four out of five conservative mps are male, and we have never had a conservative women mps in wales. We need your help, will you come back and help us . Laughter well, im bound to point out, despite the fact that yes, we want to see more women in parliament, more women conservatives in parliament, we are the only party that has had two female Prime Ministers, is quite important. And youre asking me because will continue to champion the need for getting more women into politics. I think thats an important part of the debates. If you have a politics where people have the same sorts of backgrounds and therefore have the same sorts of views and experience, you dont get, i think, the contribution to decisions that you do when a more diverse parliament, more diverse experience coming into parliament is. The same goes for business as well, i think you get greater decisions without greater diversity. With that greater diversity. With that greater diversity. I am from the second Largest Investment Bank injapan. Considering the important ties and relations with japan and investors around the world, what would be your message for investors considering the next destination for investments . I think my messages, come to the uk i think what is important is that investment in the uk has held up in the past few yea rs, uk has held up in the past few years, interestingly, despite the brexit negotiations, which have not come to fruition yet. I think that isa sign come to fruition yet. I think that is a sign of the underlying strength of the uk economy. I think weve seen that underlying strength in the employment figures we see are this week. We saw major announcements this week about continued investment in the next stage of the automotive sector, electric vehicles. I think the strength to have a democracy, rule of law, the ecosystem we can provide for investors, remains and will remain. I think there will be huge opportunities for investors in the future. Gentleman at the front because mark . Because would the future. Gentleman at the front because would you say youve left the country and your party in a better or worse state than when you became Prime Minister . In related points, youve talked a lot about responsibility and irresponsibility of political actors, but you dont seem to take responsibility for the effects your own words have, phrases like queue jumpers, for example, which give succour to bigots and xenophobes, so should you not take more responsibility for your own words and actions . On your second point is, i did make clear that i recognise i should not have used that particular phrase you quoted. Yes, i should that particular phrase you quoted. Yes, ishould not that particular phrase you quoted. Yes, i should not have used it in the first place, but i make clear that i recognise that after the events. Sometimes i dont claim that i get every single phrase are used right, but i think we all in politics have to think very carefully about how we express things and is about the degree of debates we have and the type of debates we have and the type of debate we have. On the question of the party and country, im disappointed, it is a matter of deep regret to me, that i havent managed to get brexit over the line. I think the overwhelming view of the public in the uk is that theyjust want it to be done and us to be able to get on to the next stage of the countrys life. And there are huge opportunities for us, as i said, once we deliver brexit. So im deeply disappointed to not be able to deliver brexit and i did everything i could to do that. I put my ownjob on everything i could to do that. I put my own job on the line in order to do that. I said id stand down is the votes would come for the deal, i saidi the votes would come for the deal, i said i would stand down and the votes d id said i would stand down and the votes did not come. Thats politics. Idid votes did not come. Thats politics. I did everything i curse because i thought that was what was right for the United Kingdom. I did everything i could. We have more younger members coming into the party, so i think there is a strength across the party which im pleased to see. One more question, right at the back, the gentleman . am from the chinese embassy. During your tenure of office, you have been developing relations with china, but at the same time, there are also some disputes concerning hong kong or huawei, etc, so what is your advice to your successor when a deal with china . Laughter room well, first of all, i would say that the relationship that weve been developing with china has been an important one to back out we see that, i was very pleased to take a trade delegation to china to see further investment coming into the uk, but also being able to see extra markets in china opened up for investment companies, which is important. There are issues on which we need to be very clear with china, and the continuation of the joint declaration in relation to hong kong is one of those. That declaration continues to be enforced. We would say to china that it needs to be abided by and respected and continue to be respected. In a sense, its like all relationships, we look to develop those economic ties, but were also very clear when we feel there are messages that we need to give, and im sure that will continue into the future. I said that was the last question, but i feel i ought to allow rob in the last question. Thank you very much, i would say on the hearth of all the members here we are pleased that you would come here to share these thoughts with us. This is likely to be your last major speech, so we appreciate that, as you said. The United States has come up tangentially, and you spoke in particular in your speech about the importance of the rule of law, multilateralism. The relationship with the us has been one of those Pillars Holding that particular rule is based order together. How concerned are you , is based order together. How concerned are you, to be frank, about the future of the United States, that is worried about itself and its own future, that has quite a tribal and polarised debate internally. If the white house is difficult to convince in these areas. Youve done a lot of work in congress, visiting donald trump and visiting democrats in the senate. How do you think your successor should be handling this relationship . At the first thing i would say is that special relationship we have with the United States remains, and that is there regardless of who sits in pretend play or the white house. At its core, it is the strongest and deepest relationship we have around the world. Who sits in number 10 or the white house. It has been the bedrock of nato and will continue so in the future. As we look to the question of Multilateral Institutions, yes, we have had the example of the paris agreements, the us pulling out of that, i consistently said to President Trump that i hope the us will return to the agreement. We had a disagreement about the Iran Nuclear Deal, and we continue to work to maintain that agreement, because we believe that is important part of stopping iran from getting those Nuclear Weapons. What i would say overall to people in america is that there isnt a dichotomy between having a country thatis dichotomy between having a country that is strong and an economy that are strong and being part of Multilateral Institutions. Indeed, the two are symbiotic, but being pa rt the two are symbiotic, but being part of a Multilateral Institution and part around the world of a framework of rules that operates can be an important part of helping countries to maintain their strength and economies. Thank you. Applause theresa may there in what is thought to be the last major speech as Prime Minister. Saying that compromise was important. Politics is winners and losers in perpetual strife. The feeling seems to be that if you search your view long and loud enough youll get your way. A wide ranging speech there from theresa may. She said she term anchor not made many shes not made many theoretical speeches about putting her. She said there has been no greater regret than her failure to deliver brexit. She said any form of leaving the eu must is sustainable for the long term and bring the country together on the basis of the 2016 referendum results. This has to mean some form of compromise, she said. Well be talking more about that was our political correspondence in a moment. But while she was on her feet, will get an update from greater Manchester Police. This is the story of the brother of the Manchester Arena bomber, hashem abedi, while the Prime Minister was speaking, we saw pictures of the Police Convoy which has taken him to a undisclosed location after his arrival back in the uk following his extradition from libya.
