After more than five years of implementation and regulatory processes, on Aug. 10, 2023, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) voted to approve groundbreaking resolutions allowing autonomous vehicle (AV) companies Cruise and Waymo to operate like taxis and charge passenger fares at any hour in San Francisco (technically a “Phase I Driverless Autonomous Vehicle Passenger Service Deployment permit”).
