miles, and four buildings have been destroyed and 25,000 homes remain threatened. they've been pushing flames and carrying embers in the hills where they're lighting new fires. the problem is made worse because of extremely low humidity that is drying out the grass and brush in the area. crews have made the most progress against the fire that's closest to the magic mountain amusement park. they're starting to get some containment, but fire officials say it will take at least next thursday to get at 100% contained. 5,000 homes are in the path of that fire right now. crews say they're starting to make progress against the fire, and will be when they are able to when the winds settle down. steve paulson is here, how tough a fight? >> it will be worse today by far. the october, november time frame was the warmest ever and the second driest. there's nothing good that's happening. and the wind will pick up. first of all, something very unusual has happened. you don't see it often here. with high pressure over us, there has to be lower pressure, the plunge of dry air goes down through texas anomics co. they're looking for 60s on the weekend with lows in the 40s, this is a precipitation outlook. look at the snow, look at the albuquerque and texas and the mountains of mexico. you're seeing snow here into the deep south into atlanta. you don't see this very often. that's the projection, with high pressure over us it's sending things up and over. the dry air is spilling in right there. that's where it goes. that's why the wind is picking up, higher pressure to the north they'll get gusts 50 to 80 miles per hour. the humidity single digits to the teens. it's screaming offshore. the fuel moisture is 5 to 10%. it's bone die. and 50 gusts to 80 possible. 30s, 40s, 50s and 60s on the san mateo coast. that's going to do it there, 30s, 40s for many as well. there's a little bit of an offshore breeze for some and we could have fog formation in the next couple of days, you have a lot of lead time on that. there's no change for a while. 60s on the temperatures, warmest temperatures on the coast. 6:04 and what do you want to tell us. >> we have better news in livermore. i'm happy to partnership that to folks. we have been telling you folks, in the last hour, hour and a half, people use this to get over to 60, we have word from authorities they've opened all lanes of highway 84 after that multicar crash that we've been showing you live pictures there. some of the residual back up in that area. hopefully it starts to ease up a little bit now, police have been able to open up the lanes after a multicar crash on highway 84. the chp is still dealing with a three-car crash westbound 580 in the dublin area around san arrita they're trying to see if they need to get the cars over to the right hand shoulder. that's the bay bridge, we'll show you the bay bridge toll plaza right there. we have a significant backup there, at least 10 to 15 minutes trying to get through the pay gates, after that it's a good ride across the bridge itself. the san mateo bridge right there, we're seeing a lot more cars on the roadway as we move into the 6:00 hour. we're not showing crashes or slowdowns on the span. 6:05 is the time. back to you. more on our coverage of the southern california wildfires, they're still out of control right now. >> yeah, our own ktvu reporter is in ventura county. you're wearing the mask and we see fire behind you. what are the conditions there? >> well, pam and dave, it's raining ash around here in ventura county. we're between santa barbra and ventura in an area called la conchita, you can see how big this fire is. and this is a portion of the fire. hopefully the wind will blow it in a different direction. crews were right there protecting the homes on the left side of them. all of this community got the orders to be evacuate overnight. the winds were erratic and pushing the flames really back and forth, all the way back towards the community which is on the backside of the ridge that you're looking at. they said they were able to save four homes in this community including a avocado orchard. they were unable to save an abandoned home. talking to the residents, they said they've been through a lot. there was a mudslide in the last decade, it damaged a lot of homes and now this fire. they're used to emergency evacuation orders and when firefighters weren't able to get to these homes quickly enough, there were residents who took it upon themselves to get up on their roofs with hoses to save the property. >> i got friends to help me out, i thought hosing the property would help out. we had hot spots in the back and everything has been knocked down and it's doing good. >> did you not want to leave. >> i've been here 30 years, i've been through both land slides and if they take the house, it's going to happen in front of me. >> and these are live images now looking toward ventura towards the west side of highway 101, it's shut down in both directions between santa barbra and ventura. all of the traffic is stopped and stalled right now because of the firefight happening right now behind me. no update on the numbers. 90 acres burned right now, 150 structures destroyed and that number will go up when firefighters update us in the daylight hours. >> what are you hearing about the firefight today. we have heard it will be tough like it happened here in northern california with the smoke, and the wind conditions. it might be hard to get overhead with the firefight from the air. >> yeah, absolutely, they're really concerned baseball the winds today. they expect it to reach 80 miles per hour and that means it could reach the community or at least the county line of santa barbra county. if that happens, they're worried those winds will push it further to the city of santa barbra. right now they're hoping that the winds will die down a little bit. apparently they were erratic overnight, that's why this thing grew and pushed further west and we'll see when the daylight does come, whether or not they're able to put up their choppers and do an air attack. all of that is still up in the air. >> thank you cristina rendon down in ventura county. we'll check with you in later in the morning. police were called to simpson street about a shooting below 580. it was 8:50 last night. the child he's mother already left. she rushed her daughter to the hospital in her own car which was riddled with bullet holes. she is reportedly in stable condition, the little girl, with gunshot wounds to be the forearm. the circumstances surrounding the shooting are still under investigation. the time is 6:09, we know the name of the man killed tuesday night. he was 65-year-old joseph lemm. the woman said she didn't see the man crossing street before she hit him. she drove away because she was scared. she parked her car in the nearby shopping center and police found her in that area. she didn't appear to be under the influence of drugs and alcohol. she was questioned and released. the investigation continues. oakland city workers will continue their strike to a third day after city leaders are unable to come ta agreement. and this is outside of the maintenance yard where union members will be picketing this morning. you can see behind us, there was quite a scene yesterday. >> just in the last ten minutes ago, union members started to coming here. they're starting the picket line on edgewood at the municipal service center. this is where a lot of the department of public works workers start their day this morning. later this morning, union members will gather in front of oakland city hall. city council will meet today at 1:00, to continue contract talks with the unions involved in this strike. all together about 3,000 city workers are on strike, and that means things like libraries are closed, public works shut down. and after school child care programs are closed for a third day in a row and parking enforcement will be limited and not listed. seeking points of negotiations have to do with wage increases, they're upset about the city relying on part-time and temporary workers. they want the city to hire more and not to have mandatory overtime. there's a lot of costs of hiring real time workers, the mayor earlier this week, that the pension costs are expected to rise 50% over the next five years. the city council will meet today at 1:00 in the closed session to continue the discussions they started yesterday and in a statement yesterday, city representatives say they hope to have a resolution by the end of the week, judging from that wording, it sounds like they may eh expect the contract talks to continue and possibly tomorrow, that means the strike may continue until tomorrow. we have to wait until we see what happens at that meeting this afternoon. >> thank you for that update. we'll follow that story throughout the day. >> it's 6:123, oakland public school teachers are planning budget cuts, and they're packing the meeting to make their voices heard. they have a proposal to cut $15 million from the budget after overspending the past few years. members will be districting leaflets and holding signs in the morning and afternoon, but classes will be session as scheduled, the school board is expected to vote on what to cut next week, december 13th. mixed reactions over president trump's decision to recognize jerusalem as israel's capitol. and palestinians are calling for three days of rage. and what will minnesota democrat al franken do with the call of his resignation. we'll look to see if there is a break in the weather pattern. i think there will be but i think it will take a couple of weeks. senator al franken is thinking right now he's keeping it to himself and a tight circle. many colleagues have abandoned him. >> i don't feel he should continue to serve. >> and one came forward on twitter calling on al franken to resign. >> and detailed allegations after 7th accuser, the atlantic continued with a story of the 8th. and if al franken does resign, john conyers was forced to resign after numerous sexual harassment allegations and some in the brake caucus said it was a double standard as long as conyers gave up his and al franken allowed to keep his. and we have president trump and roy moore, the republican senate candidate could win the election after numerous allegations of sexual harassment and sexual assault, it would put the republicans in a bind and he would become the looking ride here at this hour of the morning. now, i do want to put the maps up here and tell you about a problem on the screen. there's a crash, this is near the toll plaza, let me let you know so you're not concerned. this is the noncommute direction, the chp is dealing with a 3 car crash eastbound 80 around the berkeley curve. this is in the vicinity of the maze there, even though this is the noncommute direction, you have first responders and chp officers in that area and that could get things on the other side of thing to slow down a bit. a crash involving three cars eastbound 80 on the berkeley careful, everyone needs to be aware of it as they head out the door. 680 -- 6:18 this time in the morning. it's co, there are low 60s on the san mateo coasts. that's where the warmest temperatures will be. there's an offshore breeze, the upper 60s possible, santa cruz to monterra, this is a reversal of what he we see. 656el serito, san francisco is cooler, upper 50s to low 50s, there's a few getting a benefit of the offshore breeze. this area is at 33 degrees. the reason it's 42, there's enough of a breeze holding that temperature up there. penol54 and there's your offshore breeze. a weak system has brought it here. that's why today will be worse on the wind. that system went through, really strong surface high to the north. it fills it with wind and the wind advisories are out. i've seen 58 miles per hour winds at the 1500 foot level in the malibu hills. 8% relative humid, 12, 14, 8, there's nothing good there today. 50 to 80 miles per hour gusts are possible in the peaks. that goes through 8pm friday. 30s on our temperatures, 40s, 50s, and gusts 33 miles per hour out of the northwest that's why they're 59 degrees, a little southeast breeze for some. it's all east and northeast. there's nothing for us coming any time soon except for a few high clouds in southern california and that's the time we'll find for a while. the warmest temperatures again will be over to the coast, pacifica down to santa cruz, there may be patchy low clouds, but the trend is for drier weather. don't give up the host, after the 21st we'll get rain for us and there are signs follow the fires in southern california, classes are cancelled at ucla because of the fires, many students and staff were unable to reach the campus yesterday, classes were cancelled. they are cancelled again today. the campus is not in danger, but there have been power outages in many of the residents, the air quality is very bad down there. we understand that ucla hospital facilities are open and fully operational. the time is 6:25, the southern california wildfires already have cost one california utility company 3.3 billion in market value. shares of edison international dropped 15% since the fire started monday night. 15million in southern california depend on edison. and they could be liable for damages if its power lines are responsible for the wildfires and the stock lost 7 billion in value and they were looking at the you'll tilt equipment as a possible cause for the north bay fire. $9 billion, that's the amount of the insurance claims as of december 1st. that's triple the 3.3 billion amount back in october. the claims include more than 15,000 damaged homes, 5700 more houses that were total losses, also claims were filed for nearly 3,000 businesses and 6,000 cars. 44 people died in the north bay wildfires making it the deadliest wildfire in california history. and they're hosting a insurance claim work shop on saturday in santa rosa. fire victims will receive 1 on 1 assistance and it will be at the universalist church in santa rosa. again we're following breaking news in san francisco vernal heights neighborhood. one person died from carbon monoxide poisoning. it happened on moultry street near eugenia avenue. one person is in serious condition. the source of the carbon monoxide is unknown, but it appears to be accidental. we do have a crew in the area and we're going to have a live update coming up in our 7:00 hour. the time is now 6:27, thousands of employees from the oakland school district had money deducted from their bank accounts and checking accounts and who is to blame and how attempts to fix the problem will be too late. this fire is only 5% contained and fire officials here in california say they expect some of the worst conditions today. i'm allison barber, he'll tell you more in just a minute. good morning, thank you for joining us on mornings on 2, thursday, december 7th i'm dave clark you, and i'm pam cook, we continue our coverage on the wildfires burning across southern california. i want to take you to a map of the situation down there. this is the national fire situational awareness website. you can see that the ventura county fire, certainly the biggest there. that's the one on the uppermost part of your screen. you can see where it burned towards the ocean, jumped 101. and the other fire is on the right-hand side a little bit more. there's the fire, the little yellow area, she's pointing to our producer, that's the one near the magic mountain fire, and the getty museum, they were successful in saving that at this point. but, the winds are our big story today. >> yeah, and steve is going to talk about that. steve says today should be an extremely tough day for firefighters, because the winds will be so strong and so out of control. >> yeah, and we want to take you to ventura county again where that fire is certainly the biggest and causing problems. >> here's our reporter allison barber, you're there now, there's getting sunlight out there now. what's it like down there? well, this ten tire area, we showed you earlier this morning, this entire area was engulfed in flames now, you can see behind me, firefighters have started to get a handle on it. you can see the smoke and some of the smaller flames up in the hills and mountains behind them, this as you said is the biggest fire and has also caused the most damage, this is one section of the thomas fire, it's burned 90,000 acres so far. it's only 5% contained on the other side. you can see a bit of a bigger blaze that's popped up. firefighters are working through the trees over there. that's the problem they're facing today, is the winds, the wind right now is not that bad, it doesn't take a lot to move one of those big embers and hit some of the dry brush and respark a fire. the air quality out there now, we're still seeing the wind blowing your hair. what's the air quality like this morning? >> right now it's the best that it's been all morning, and that, obviously, has to do with the fact that they've gotten such a good handle on this. if you go any direction where the wind is starting to push the smoke out, it's incredibly difficult to breathe. we were in ventura in the city the other day, it's difficult to see as we were driving and even if you were walking from your car to the length of the driveway to get inside of a doorway you needed to put a face mask on. from being here, the air quality depended on where you're standing armor often than not, people are feeling a need to put a mask on. and in the city of ventura, it's a biggish a and all of the smoke is being pushed down wind. thank you so much for that live update to continue. you can see in that shot of the fire with the wind, lets check in with steve. we're keeping an eye on this. this is a purple warning, something that we have never had it. >> it doesn't show purple for fire. and we only go up to red on the computer. >> the thomas fire is the main one, it was 50,000 a few hours ago, and some of the higher elevation, wind gusts of 80 miles per hour. it's a dry pattern until the 21st, that's the way it looks today. it's very mild, there are low to mid-60s because of an offshore breeze, the last call was saturday december 2nd and thursday, it looks like the next00 hint of rain december 21st. they break the pattern around christmas and going into new year's. a weak la maine is what we're in, and -- a weak la nina is what we're in. and this started december 1st. dry pears, using san francisco climate day, this is during a weak la nina, that's quite common. we have a long way to go. this is according to the golden gate weather services. you can go on the website and check out the dry patterns. they happen all the time, even in wet years. and dublin is 32, and allison says 32, and berkeley is 53. you can see a short wave right there. that's drier air and it's enhancing the offshore wind today. there's a strong surface high to the north. high pressure doesn't like the low, it fills it with wind and that's why we'll see gusts 50 to 80 miles per hour. the peaks will have 80 miles per hour gusts today. santa rosa 53 and 60s in the san mateo coast. there's huge differences in the temperatures, there's a little more east, southeast today. it's in half moon bay and it's why they're in the 60s and patchy low clouds. we're high and dry here for while. 60s for the warmest temperatures on the santa cruz coast. we had an issue earlier, is it better now? >> it looks like we have improvement. at the maze area near the to toll plaza, we had a crash, and the chp may have gotten everything cleared out of the way there. it was a three-car crash on eastbound 80. again noncommute direction, but at the berkeley curve. it could have had folks turning their heads even if they were headed west to try to get to the toll plaza this morning. speaking up the toll plaza will give you a live look right there. it's jammed up in the 6:30 half- hour, we have seen some serious backups in that area. we have probably at least 20, 25 minute delay and slow traffic on the east bay, trying to get to that area. we'll look at the commute in the south bay, there's slow traffic in san jose, trying to make your way into the downtown area. 6:37 is the time. all right. thank you alex. steve has been talking about, we've been talking about a few minutes ago, the wind, the biggest concern right now with the firefighters in southern california. and the state's to firefighters say the santa ana winds could be the worst they've ever seen and could make the fires uncontrollable and this is not the only battle for firefighters, the three fires in l.a. county are raging this morning. the last report says the skirball fire in west los angeles is 5% contained. it's burning near the getty center and they're trying to protect priceless works of art there. 4 homes have been burned so far and 11 others damaged. people in several other homes and apartment buildings and schools in los angeles, they've been evacuated. 20 square miles have been burned in the creek fire, and 150,000 people have been ordered to evacuate there. 4 homes, buildings, they were destroyed, 2500 homes and businesses are threatened and two firefighters there have been treated for injuries. and pam, finally the rye fire, that's the fire burning near magic mountain amusement park, that fire is 10% contained. firefighters say they might be able to fully contain it until next thursday. 5,000 homes are in danger there, firefighters have made progress, the winds have died did you know for a while. we're waiting for a briefing from cal fire and the los angeles county fire department to give us the latest information on how these fires have grown and developed during the night. in other news this morning, palestinians are protesting against president trump's recognition of jerusalem as israel's capitol. they called for three days of rage, that's palestinians' capitol, they're burning tires and throwing rocks at israeli security forces in bethlehem on the west bank. in israel, his announcement was celebrated with images of the israeli and american flags lighting up the walls. >> this decision reflects the president's commitment to an ancient and enduring truth to fulfilling process and advancing peace. >> it's clearly one of the most irresponsible decisions taken by american presidents, vis-a- vis the region and the chances of peace. >> world leaders have condemned president trump's actions calling it a blow to the middle east peace. >> and saudi arabia's royal court called it unjustified and irresponsible. >> and theresa may, the british prime minister called it unhelpful in the pursuit of peace. and two men charged with 36 counts of involuntary manslaughter, one count for each of the victims from a fire. a victim in the warehouse when that fire started. >> the fire created pure chaos and the people brought objects into the warehouse for the party including a big projection screen that ended up blocking people from getting out. the lawyer for derrick, that testimony helps its client you, it has nothing to do with my client or the co-defendant, that's these people who came up and placed these items there, that wasn't part of the warehouse. so, i think that helps us exceedingly. >> the preliminary hearing is expected to last five days. prosecutors expect to call 20 witnesses, in the end a judge will decide if there is enough evidence for this case to go to trial. >> a former captain with the oakland fire department has plead guilty to child pornography charges. he was ordered to register as a sex offender. he's been out on bail since his arrest in september. investigators say they served a search warrant at his home in lafayette and found hundreds of images on the personal laptop. >> our time is 6:42, a man has been arrested for attempted murder. he injured two people in the parking lot of a store in emeryville. it happened at a target store on 40th street. cameron smith, a 42-year-old man was arrested. >> according to the san francisco chronicle, three guns were found at the scene, both victims are still in critical condition. the oakland unified school district says human error resulted in the paychecks of thousands of teachers, principals and other employees had money deducted from their bank accounts. they accidentally deleted the first deposit paychecks and it had nothing to do with the current budget crisis. they've reissued the paychecks and some teachers say the damage has been already done. >> they take $3,000 out and you paid rent $1,000, guess what? you're in the red. >> we had some human error here at usd where someone hit a button and clicked on something that they shouldn't have clicked on and in the end reversed the payment for all of these employees. >> the teacher's union president wants an independent investigation on how did not want. a year-long investigation found the sale of 1500 unauthorized renters and term life insurance policies. regulators are learning to suspend or even revoke insurance licenses of wells fargo. and bank executives are cooperating with authorities and making things right for customers with refunds. time at 6:47, a man hacked into uber a year ago, he had access to personal information of 57 million users. uber paid that man $100,000 to destroy the information. uber was criticized a lot for only revealing the breach last month even though this happened a year ago. reuters say the trying to piece things together and get everyone out of the way. we'll give you a live look at highway 24 and the traffic is heavy trying to get out of walnut creek this morning. we're not showing crashes in that area. it's slow traffic all the way to the tunnel. we'll take you to the south bay and as we put up the maps here, you can see a couple of issues and some spots of slowing. one issue why want to let you know about is a crash northbound 101 right at mckee road. that will slow things down there, if you're trying to get north along 101 and downtown san jose. the chp is dealing with a and lots of low 30s and there's some in the low 60s, where, san mateo coast. we'll show you in a second. clear and we have an offshore breeze here, there are 30, 35 miles per hour gusts from oakland hills to the san may te'o -- san mateo coast. it's low to mid-60s, it's a reversal of what we would normally see. high pressure over to the west reflecting everything north. it's a plunge of cold air, there's not a lot of moisture snow or rain associated with this. this has made it so far south. watch the precipitation forecast. watch texas new mexico apartment higher elevations of mexico. that is snow that far south. that's possibility of maybe a severe snow event for atlanta on friday. maybe even 60s for temperatures in tampa with lows in the 40s, that's a plunge of cold air. everything is a woman. last month same-sex marriage was endorsed by 62% of voters. first same-sex marriages could start next month. six women who accused harvey weinstein of sexual harassment filed a class-action lawsuit against him and his former businesses. in the lawsuit the women say that harvey weinstein's brother as well as other members of the board of the weinstein company knew of his actions and did nothing. actresses and other women in the film industry were taken to events and hotel rooms as well as weinstein's home or office under the pretense they were going to talk about a project. the lawsuit names the weinstein company and miramax. overall, 80 women have accused weinstein of sexual misconduct dating back four decades. a judge throughout class- action claims accusing google of paying female employees less than jake men. the lawsuit was inappropriate because it was brought on on behalf of all women who work for google. the plaintiff's were given 30 days to file a new complaint on behalf of specific people. this comes as google faces the investigation from the labor department. today is the 76th anniversary of the bombing of pearl harbor. the attack that brought the united states into world war ii. 2000 americans died that sunday morning in the attack by japan. four us battleships were destroyed. today there will be memorial ceremonies across the country. the biggest will be at the pearl harbor memorial. locally a ceremony will be held this morning on the uss hornet. that one will have survivors and witnesses to the bombing and they will share their memories. the japanese counsel general to san francisco will be at the ceremony. the warriors played last night without steph curry who has a sprained ankle but kevin durant took over leading the warriors to the victory over the charlotte hornets. kevin durant had his first triple-double with 35 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists. the hornets never late in the game. klay thompson did pretty
