Employees at the San Francisco-based digital publishing site Medium have voted down a proposal on unionization by a one-vote margin that would have required company management to recognize the group.
On Friday the group lobbying for union representation failed to reach the threshold for voluntary recognition agreed on with management, winning 52% of votes but not enough to allow it to bargain with the company, according to a statement from the union.
“In a recent anonymous online election conducted by a neutral third party, the Communications Workers of America did not achieve the agreed-upon majority needed for a union to be recognized at Medium,” a Medium spokesperson said in an email.
