SURFSIDE, Fla. — It wouldn’t have been unusual if Elaine Sabino had been somewhere other than the top floor of Champlain Towers South in the early hours of that Thursday morning.
Sabino loved to travel. And in her 70s, she still was doing it for work and pleasure.
She was a flight attendant for Jet Blue. She had flown recently to San Francisco with her crew. When she returned to her home state — she grew up in Jacksonville Beach — she went back to Surfside and the condo unit where she lived with Richard Augustine, her friend and travel companion.
