Christmas in quarantine. Good morning. The battle lines are drawn, the wait is nearly over as anthonyjoshua returns to the ring to defend his heavyweight titles against kubrat pulev at wembley arena tonight. Stayin alive its more than a0 years since the bee gees had seven us number one singles in just one year. Now the last surviving member barry gibb lifts the lid on life as a disco king. Good morning. It looks like today will be the better day of the weekend. It looks like we will see some sunshine around, particularly gcioss some sunshine around, particularly across Western Areas, tomorrow a low pressure system was weeping, bringing wet and windy weather to our shores but it will be gradually milder. Ill have all the details for you a bit later on. Good morning. 0ur good morning. Our main story borisjohnson has chaired a meeting to check the uk is prepared for a no deal brexit as the trade negotiations with the eu, which are currently stuck in stalemate, are expected to end tomorrow. The ministry of defence has also confirmed that four Royal Navy Ships are on standby to protect british fishing waters if no agreement is in place when the transition period ends on december 31. Heres our Political Correspondent jonathan blake. In downing street yesterday the Prime Minister chaired what has been described as a stock take on the uks readiness to end its relationship with the eu without a trade deal. Visiting a manufacturing plant in northumberland, he said while its not the outcome he had wanted, written would be prepared. It is looking, you know, very likely that we will have to go for a solution that i think would be, you know, wonderfulfor the solution that i think would be, you know, wonderful for the uk solution that i think would be, you know, wonderfulfor the uk britain would be prepared. We would be able to do what we want from january the first and obviously it will be different from what we had set out to achieve but ive no doubt that this country can get ready and, asi that this country can get ready and, as i say, come out on world trade terms. Four rural Navy Patrol Boats will be ready to protect uk fishing waters, it was confirmed last night, as part of what the ministry of defence that was extensive preparation for a range of scenarios at the end of the transition period. In brussels, the eu rejected Boris Johnsons attempt to meet key leaders individually to try to make progress. While some Member States sound more worried than others about an ideal outcome, they are united in their approach. This is not to say that we would require the uk to follow us every time we decide to raise the level of ambition. For example, in the environmental field. They would remain free, sovereign if you wish, to do what they want to do. Plans to manage traffic queues are being tested this weekend, one of many possible consequences whether or not a Free Trade Agreement is reached. Still, so much is uncertain. With less than three weeks to go. Jonathan blake, bbc news. The us food and Drug Administration has authorised the Pfizer Biontech Coronavirus Vaccine for emergency use. The agency had come under intense pressure from the Trump Administration to approve the vaccines use, and President Trump said the first vaccinations will take place in less than 2a hours. 0ur washington correspondent nomia iqbal has more. This emergency authorisation has taken a bit of time. The fda has approved the vaccine after being advised to do so by an outside Advisory Group of independent medical experts. They had analysed the effectiveness of the vaccine. It also looked at the potential side effects, including those reports of two british patients who had allergic reactions after receiving the pfizer jab. And allergic reactions after receiving the pfizerjab. And after the recommendation came this intense political pressure by President Trump. He had called the fda a big old slow total and was demanding he approve the vaccine. He had this to say, once the green light came. The first vaccine will be administered in less than 2a hours. The governors decide where the vaccines will go in their state and who will get them first. We want our senior citizens, healthcare workers and First Responders to be first in line. I promised that we would produce a vaccine in record time before the end of the year. They said it couldnt be done. But with todays announcement, we have now achieved that goal. There is pressure for protection because the pandemic is surging here. On wednesday, one day alone, there were more than 3000 deaths and mr trump is keen to turn those headlines away from americans dying to american being vaccinated, as he leaves the white house. And we will now see what will be the largest Vaccination Campaign in us history, people who are over 16 will receive the jab, Health Workers and the elderly, living in Nursing Homes, will be the first to receive the vaccination. Those with severe allergic reactions are recommended not to take the vaccine but the us is also waiting for approval on another vaccine made by the company moderna, expected to go through the same robust approval processes next week. Anyone arriving into the uk from the Canary Islands must now self isolate. The new rules came in to force at 4 oclock this morning, after the islands were removed from the travel corridor list because of a rise in covid cases. However, the isolation period is being cut from 1a to 10 days, as john mcmanus reports. With december temperatures in the low 20s, life is still a beach on the canary low 20s, life is still a beach on the ca nary islands. Low 20s, life is still a beach on the Canary Islands. With holiday makers returning from there to the uk from four im this morning, welcome home is going to be bit chillier. They will have to go into quarantine after the canaries were removed from the uks travel corridors list because of rising infections there. Tour operator tui says it has around 2000 i can avoid uk customers on the island, many unable to change their plans to beat the deadline. There is some good news though, the time spent in isolation for those returning from high risk areas will be cut from 1a days to ten. The relaxation also applies to those who have been in contact with virus carriers. The changes already started in wales. The rest of the uk follows on monday. Wales is facing a serious challenge, though, with more than 1900 people in hospital with the virus, there has been a warning that another lockdown may be posed after christmas. If current restrictions, which include School Lessons moving online from monday, valtr work imposed. If those measures do not succeed in turning the tide of the virus, then it is inevitable that we will have to consider a move to alert level four. Immediately after christmas. In parts of london and the south east cases have also risen, particularly among secondary school aged children. Past experience shows this can precede a jumping infections for older age groups. Elsewhere in england, 67 local authorities which are under the highest tier three rules have been given the green light from the government to offer rapid result testing programmes to help them cut transmission rates. Ministers say the move follows a successful trial in liverpool. But there are concerns over the tests after preliminary data from the city shows they have missed 51 of covid cases. The government, though, insist the test are reliable and can help quickly detect the virus in those who dont have sentence symptoms. John mcmanus, bbc news. The Us Supreme Court has rejected a bid to overturn the president ial Election Results in four key states. The lawsuit, filed by the state of texas and backed by President Trump, sought to throw outjoe bidens victories in georgia, michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin. The Supreme Court ruled that texas had no legal standing to bring the case. World leaders will set out their plans for cutting Greenhouse Gas emissions at a Virtual Summit today, which is being co hosted by the uk. Ahead of the summit, which takes place on the fifth anniversary of the paris climate agreement, the uk government announced it would cut taxpayer funding for fossil fuel projects abroad. More than 70 World Leaders from countries, including china, india and france, will take part in the conference. The duke and duchess of cambridge have had their first red carpet engagement with all three of their children. They took prince george, Princess Charlotte and prince louis to the london palladium theatre to watch a special pantomime starring julian clary and elaine page. In a speech before the show, the duke paid tribute to the late Dame Barbara Windsor. Before i go on, i want to pause and pay tribute to a True National treasure, Dame Barbara Windsor. Who sadly passed away last night. Applause. She was an absolute giant of the entertainment world and of course a legend on pantomime stages across the country. Especially here at london palladium. And i know we will miss her hugely. Of course we we re will miss her hugely. Of course we were covering that yesterday and Dame Barbara Windsor who died at the age of 83 on thursday evening. Mariah careys song all i want for christmas is you has reached number one in the uk charts more than 26 years number one in the uk charts 26 years after its original release. I dont want a lot for christmas. There isjust one thing i need. Its been streamed 10. 8 million times this week alone. So far, the song has earned mariah more than £16 million in royalties and has spent 70 weeks in the uks top 100 since its release in 1994. Now, iam not now, i am not a now, iam nota big fan now, i am not a big fan of Christmas Songs and there are not many that i like but that one. At one . It is not my favourite but it cheers me up. But why do you think now it has gone back to number one, 26 years. We are desperate for some joy because it has been a miserable year business has come early and people have put up the decorations early and getting into the Christmas Spirit and that is a joyful song christmas has come early. This image, we lop the top of the Christmas Tree. Can we not see the top . Does not a proper top. In the wide shot, you can see in the wide image of the studio. Wide shot, you can see in the wide image of the studiolj wide shot, you can see in the wide image of the studio. I will get told off for criticising out free. Our tree. Lets take a look at some of todays front pages. Brexit and the looming trade deal deadline feature in many of this mornings papers. The times reports that the royal navy will be given extra powers to patrol british waters in the event of a no deal brexit. I think you can see the photograph of the royal visit to the pantry. Panto. The guardian carries a warning from scientists about the risk of spreading coronavirus over the festive period. Rethink your christmas is the message there. And of course one day on from the news, many of the papers carry tributes to the actress Dame Barbara Windsor, whose death was announced yesterday. The mirror carries a plea to the government from her widow, scott mitchell, to fund better dementia care. Do it for babs is the headline. And this picture features in many of the papers we reported, of course, the duke and duchess of cambridge and their three children enjoying their first royal engagement together as a family. They were attending a special pantomime to thank key workers for their efforts this year. Time now is 12 minutes past six. Heres stav with a look at the weekend weather. You heard yesterday it was very rainy and getting quite cold although this morning i thought it was quite mild. Strangely mild this morning. I was worried it may be fog around because we had a bit of that earlier but who knows . Stove knows. Good morning to you. Stav. Good morning to you both. Absolutely right, some mist and fog around around eastern areas but actually, it is not looking that bad. If you compared today with tomorrow which will be wet and windy, it is certainly the better day of the two. Some sunshine around, particularly across the western most of the cloud and shovels will be across the east. The reason is settling down today slightly because of this bump in the pressure chart, this is a ridge of High Pressure, but that area of low pressure will be with us for sunday so we start off quite a lot of cloud and mistand so we start off quite a lot of cloud and mist and merc across much of scotland, north and Eastern England, to show is further west but the clear skies here, quite chilly, the sunshine for Northern Ireland spreading into southwest scotland into wales in the midlands and South West England as well so it is really a n South West England as well so it is really an east west divide, it stays pretty grey and dismal across eastern areas with further showers. Those temperatures topping around eight or nine degrees. Through tonight, we will hold onto the cloud and shower reverse ran across eastern areas. Clear for a while within the area of low pressure sta rts within the area of low pressure starts to move in and it will turn wet and windy across southern and Western Areas. Those temperatures ranging from a chilly two or three across the east to a much milder 710 across the east to a much milder 7 10 further west. So something on the scene for quite a while is this area of low pressure, deep low which will be really influencing our weather through sunday. It starts off bright initially across the east, quite chilly, and then the rain starts to push in from the west end you could see some transient snow for the scottish hills as the rain move then but all the while, the milder air will be moving in with some of the rain which could be heavy across Western Hills. The wind gusts as well will be quite a feature tomorrow, gusting around 30 miles an hourand feature tomorrow, gusting around 30 miles an hour and a0 or 50 around some southern and western coasts but here we will have the mildest air, either 12 or 13. Quite chilly across the north and east but it will all change as we head into monday, the area of low pressure pushing the milderair area of low pressure pushing the milder air right across the country, again lots of isobars on the charts so it really will stay quite windy with gales around southern and western coasts and there is the milderair western coasts and there is the milder air right across the country, as you can see, from yellow and orange colours there. So as we head on into monday, it will be a blustery day with some sunshine around. Most of the showers will be across southern and Western Areas and some quite heavy across some of the Western Hills. Temperature double figures for all, including much of scotland as well, ten or 11 up much of scotland as well, ten or 11 up there, around 12 or 13 further south. As we head on through the week, it looks like it was stay pretty unsettled. Quite a mild week coming up compared to what we had earlier on in december. Those temperatures around 11 or 12 degrees and it will stay quite unsettled with showers and longer spells of rain and some sunshine at times too. Stav, thank you very much. Well just have a look at some of the inside pages. However you when it comes to eating pies . Well, id obviously dont understand the question i obviously dont understand the question. What is your favourite kind of understand the question. What is yourfavourite kind of pie . Understand the question. What is your favourite kind of pie . Steak and kidney, it might have changed over the years. That sounds quite old fashioned. Over the years. That sounds quite oldfashioned. That is basically what pies are. They are sort of steeped in tradition, they have that sort of comforting feel about them. Where are you going with this . Are you keen on pastry . When i. E. A pie, ijust you keen on pastry . When i. E. A pie, i just like. You keen on pastry . When i. E. A pie, ijust like. Are you not confusing puddings here . Forget about that. Stea k puddings here . Forget about that. Steak and kidney pudding has the pastry all around it, pie, steak and kidney pudding has the pastry allaround it, pie, i understand, and i get corrected, as pastry on the top. Can buy a pie which is all pastry, old pastry and the pastry on top, but you can also buy pies where it is just the container and the pastry in it. What have you got there . I have got pie for you. I dont know if you would wa nt to for you. I dont know if you would want to eat it. This is a substantial meal. Fees, chips, and mushy peas. I am a huge fan. Im not sure i want it in a pie. But this chef, gareth mason, has created for drinkers who have to sit down under covid 19 restrictions and have a substantial meal. What other dimensions . It is hard to tell from that picture how big it is. Is that a giant pie you would subdivide, or is itan a giant pie you would subdivide, or is it an individual pie . There is a little picture here of someone who isu is gareth. It is called a northerners dream come true. It is ina box northerners dream come true. It is in a box there and it looks pretty substantial. Do you know what i like about that . I like the layering. There is something satisfying about the layering. Its like looking at the layering. Its like looking at the inside of the earth, the lover underneath, that is satisfying. Well, then wouldnt it be upside down . With the green stuff . There is nothing wrong with that. Down . With the green stuff . There is nothing wrong with thatlj down . With the green stuff . There is nothing wrong with that. I think it looks lovely. Did you have anything . There was this one image that rather tickled me. There have been a lot of official portraits and pictures done official portraits and pictures done of captain sirtom official portraits and pictures done of captain sir tom moore. Beautiful ones. I really do like this one. This is a handknitted bauble in the shape of captain sir tom moore. This was ina shape of captain sir tom moore. This was in a Christmas Tree in lincolnshire, and we know captain sir tom moores story, but i think there is something charming about that, in amongst the many tributes that, in amongst the many tributes that have been there from all sorts of places. Do you think it would fit on our tree . It definitely would. But i suspect this is a cherished item on the tree, from whoever it is. That looks lovely. It is 6 19am. Now its time for the film review with mark kermode. We will see you at 6 30am. Hello, and welcome to the film review with me, mark kermode rounding up the best movies available to view in cinemas and in the home. Back in 2016, Denzel Washington produced, directed, and starred in a screen adaptation of August Wilsons stage play fences, earning a supporting actress oscar for violet davis, alongside nods for best actor, best picture, and a posthumous screenwriting nomination for wilson. Davis looks like an awards contender once again for her dynamite role as mother of the blues in ma raineys black bottom the latest screen adaptation of wilsons work on which washington again serves as producer. A one, a two, a you know what to do. Thisd be an empty World Without the blues. I try to take that emptiness and fill it up with something. In 1920s chicago, the already humid atmosphere of a Recording Studio is made hotter by the broiling tensions between musicians, producers, and an increasingly recalcitrant star in a session to cut the titular song. Most of the musicians are resigned to their lot, living modestly from gig to gig. But a young trumpet player brilliantly played by Chadwick Boseman in his final screen role has bigger plans. I aint like you cut i got talent. Me and this horn, we is tight. If my daddy had know ed i would turn out like this, hed have named me gabriel. Not only does he have designs on mas trademark bluesy anthem, he also dreams of leading his own band and recording his own songs. Im going to get me a band and make me some records. I done gave him some of my songs i wrote, and he say hell let me record them when i get my band together. Ijust gotta finish the last part of this song. Like fences, ma raineys black bottom showcases some Tour De Force acting. Davis does a fabulous job of portraying both the vulnerability and the unstoppability of her character a sturdy figure with fire in her eyes whos learned to stand her ground. Well be ready to go in 15 minutes. Well be ready when madam says im ready to go and thats the way it goes around here. By contrast, boseman who got james browns moves down pat in the underrated get on up plays his character as a fleet footed hustler bristling with pride over his fancy new shoes, hiding ancient hurt behind nervy smiles. Yet, also like its predecessor, the theatrical origins of ma raineys black bottom weigh heavy on director george c wolfes rather stage y cinematic production. Despite the best efforts of screenwriter ruben sa ntiago hudson, this still feels like a collection of theatrical set pieces whether its a soulfully delivered soliloquy reliving brutal childhood trauma, or a third act tragedy that reportedly produced gasps on stage, but feels oddly contrived on screen. Sterling music, Production Design, and costume work from bra nford marsalis, mark ricker, and ann roth respectively add to the classy package, but its the performances that win the day. Its available in cinemas now and on netflix from 18 december. Theres another great performance, albeit in a completely different register, at the centre of falling the directorial debut from viggo mortensen. Lance henriksen is in career best form as willis, a character who could most generously be described as irascible, and who is increasingly showing signs of dementia. Mortensen himself plays williss son, john, who, along with his sister sarah, played by laura linney, has suggested that their dad move from his rural home to california for his own safety. But willis is a ball of rage, deriding his son for being gay, lashing out at anyone who tries to help him, and goading everyone into rows and arguments with whichjohn staunchly refuses to engage. You said you wanted to come live near me and sarah. As long as it has a garden, you said. Why isnt your sister here . Is she out wasting money on womens crap with your mother again . Its a school night, for christs sake. Sarah lives in ventura with her family. Shes coming for dinner on sunday. Intercutting between two time periods, falling makes clear that williss anger issues predate his Current Health problems even as a younger man, when hes played by sverrir gudnason, hes character who its very hard to like. So now, i cant relax and have a smoke in my own home. But henriksen, a veteran of genre favourites like near dark and aliens, breathes real life into a character who makes bruce dern in nebraska seem warm and cuddly, delivering his most fearsomely uninhibited and bravely unsympathetic performance. There is a sly cameo by canadian film maker david cronenberg, who directed mortensen in eastern promises, and solid support from the ensemble cast. But this is henriksens film, and its every bit as convincing, enraging, and sometimes hard to stick with as the character he plays. You can find falling in cinemas and on virtual screenings online. Surely you know who i am. At the very least, i would like a room next to the spa. Uh, there is no spa. Angie, what is this place . Were all going to get stabbed and stuffed, you know that, right . 0rbitz gave it three stars. Do you have any cabins . For something altogether more fluffy and upbeat, why not try the prom a campus christmas musical comedy thats now on netflix. Directed by ryan murphy from the stage show of the same name, it features meryl streep and james corden as actors whose new broadway show has opened to a career killing reviews. Desperate to save their Public Images by supporting a worthy cause, they hop on a bus to edgewater, indiana, where a highschooler is trending after refusing to be allowed to take her girlfriend to the prom. Alsojumping on the bandwagon are Nicole Kidmans embittered chorus girl, angie, and actor cum barman trent, played by Andrew Reynolds who does such great work in the new film of the boys in the band. From a spotlight stealing meryl streep performing a big production number ironically entitled its not about me to Nicole Kidman delivering home School Lessons about pizazz, this likeable film has a showy oomph to spare. Lets get this Party Started its time to build a prom for everyone. Show them all it can be done. If music blares and no one cares. Admittedly, its hardly groundbreaking fare, and youre pretty Much Required to check your cynicism and at the door as the film proceeds to tick off every cliche in the book albeit in pastiche fashion. But i enjoyed the idea of a group of self proclaimed broadway liberals descending upon a small town where not even two tony awards will get you a suite in the local hotel, but the high school principal, played by Keegan Michael key, just happens to be a huge fan. Oh, and for the record, James Cordens pretty funny, too, and not annoying really. From the frothy to the frankly bizarre with cold meridian a seven minute oddity from peter strickland, the maverick genius behind berberian sound studio and in fabric. Commissioned by the london short Film Festival where it premiered back in january, this indefinable weirdy explores the strange world of autonomous sensory meridian response or asmr, as its popularly known, a physical response to certain tactile sounds. The film, which satirises the voyeurism of the internet, futures two dancers preparing a routine while being watched in an almost dreamlike state from lonely computer screens all played out to the sounds of page turning, hair washing, and pencil scratching. Having become obsessed with asmr while making in fabric, strickland, whose work is never less than fascinating, here provides a rather wry parody of the fetishistic phenomenon all neatly packaged in a film thats only marginally longer than this review. Seriously, in the time its taken me to describe it to you, you couldve watched cold meridian for yourself. Check it out on mubi. You good, maya . We can go as fast or slow as youre comfortable out here. That goes for you too, sully. No rush, understood . Oh, my god. No view quite like it. Lets finish with something more out of this world the midnight sky. Adapted from lily brooks daltons novel good morning, midnight, and directed by George Clooney who also co stars its a haunting tale set in 20a9 in the wake of a global catastrophe that has effectively rendered planet earth uninhabitable. From the frozen arctic, clooneys scientist, augustine, struggles to make contact with ether, a spaceship returning home after a mission to seek out strange new worlds. On board is felicityjoness sully, who, along with her crewmates, has no idea why earth has fallen so silent. Its clear that theres some fundamental connection between augustine and sully although the film teases out its twists and turns in elegant style as it slips between their two narratives between the ground and the sky. Like Alfonso Cuarons gravity, in which clooney co starred, the midnight sky combines introspection with a degree of action particularly in a spacewalk sequence that takes a genuinely alarming turn. But for the most part, this is impressively low key fare, sharing some of the existential angst of the swedish danish sci fi film aniara, or even of Steven Soderberghs remake of solaris which, again, featured clooney, whos clearly a sci fi fan. How much of you picked up about the conditions out there . Weve received nothing. Strong support from david 0yelowo and very impressive Production Design from jim bussell whose impressive credits include spielbergs et add to the films eerily melancholy spell. You can find it in cinemas now and on netflix from 23 december. Thats it for this week. Thanks for watching the film review. Next week, itll be my round up of the year. Until then, stay safe. I aint started blues the way youre saying. Blues always been there. But if they want to call me the mother of blues, thats all right with me, dont hurt none. They took prince george, Princess Charlotte and Prince William for the london palladium theatre to watch a special pantomime and you can see the children are rather taken by the elves who are ready to work on them. The show was put on as a thank you to key workers and their families. The cast includesjulian clary and elaine paige. And the duke also took the opportunity to give a speech paying tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor whose death of course was confirmed yesterday but amongst other things, i mean, confirmed yesterday but amongst otherthings, i mean, we confirmed yesterday but amongst other things, i mean, we have talked a lot about the problems for the theatre industry and, i mean, this will be a big lift forjust that one individual theatre but, you know, the point is that some people are getting back into the theatre to see things and it feels like an important moment and obviously, a good night out for family absolutely, absolutely. 0h good night out for family absolutely, absolutely. Oh no, it isnt. Come on, you had to say it, didnt you . Dont. He dragged me into this last week. Dont do it. We have got bigger things to talk about. We were mentioning the fact that everyone is getting into theatre. Talking about pantomime. And the fans will be there tonight in wembley arena. It feels like Christmas Morning for boxing fans. Its a really big day for anthonyjoshua. Hell put his three world heavyweight titles on the line tonight when he takes on kubrat pulev. Theres a lot riding on this fight at wembley arena. A win forjoshua could pave the way for an all british bout with tyson fury, where all four world heavyweight titles would be up for grabs for the first time in history. Theres also a big incentive tonight for pulev, who could become the first bulgarian heavyweight champion. Butjoshua says he trusts in his own ability. Its important to be respectful, thats where that stay humble mindset comes from, but staying humble does not mean having a level of confidence. So when i look at kubrat pulev, i am saying that boy cannot beat me, that we cannot beat me, iam cannot beat me, that we cannot beat me, i am too good, i am too strong, iam too me, i am too good, i am too strong, i am too quick and i have developed too much skills. And you can listen to the fight on bbc radio 5 live from 10 oclock tonight. Moving onto the football. West ham are having a really Good Premier League season so far, and their good form continued with a 2 1win at leeds last night. They went behind to an early penalty but got themselves level, and then won it ten minutes from time, thanks to this thumping header from angelo 0gbonna. West ham are now up to fifth in the table. Four more games in the premier league today, including the Manchester Derby at 5 30. Its always a huge game, but theres a bit of pressure on the united boss 0le Gunnar Solskjaer after they limped out of the Champions League in the week. Joe lynskey looks ahead. The last Manchester Dobie was march eight, 2020. The month a city and a spot was set to change. Fans have not been at old trafford since. The wind that they left united 12 points behind city stock not in this seasons table, it is above blue. Yes another wind this evening could put united two points off the top but their last nine months have varied between extremes. Sometimes they are brilliant. Sometimes not. Commentator and Manchester United will not be competing the Champions League. Instead, they are confined to the europa league. We were, and the group was disappointed on tuesday night. Its just the group was disappointed on tuesday night. Itsjust natural. We really wanted to go through the tournament and now the reality is we are not. Then we just have to move on. After that the focus hasjust been on the Manchester Derby, that is properly the best game that you can ask for after such a disappointment. In nearly all of uniteds wins this season they have had to come from behind. The are just four points from their five games at home but with four wins in a row they are still in touch at the top. So why is this side so streaky . If only anyone knew the answer to that. It baffles fans, it confuses fans. Even within matches, im not saying that united fans are com pletely saying that united fans are completely convinced by what they are seeing because they are not. Big name players, big fees who are among the best paid footballers in the world need to stand up in games like this. That defeat in march was citys seventh of last season. The most Pep Guardiola has had in one campaign. Still, they are seeking consistency in every match they try to show that they can still be a force. Every game you are able to win is so complicated, so difficult, and every time we are able to do it, its a big compliment so this is a win we have to leave our profession. I hope it is the first and last clash of manchester inside an empty ground. This December Derby will be a test of character on a much more silent night. Joe lynskey, bbc news. Theres been a quick turnaround in rugby unions champions cup. Exeter were only crowned european champions in october, but the new competition is already under way. Northampton saints played in front of fans at franklins gardens for the First Time Since february, but the support couldnt help them toa win. They narrowly lost to bordeaux, to extend their awful recent run. Saints have now lost their last 11 matches and sit back and enjoy this fabulous solo effort from the touolose winger Cheslin Kolby in their win over ulster. 29 22 was the final score and that is ulsters first defeat at home in 26 matches. Patrick reed is on course to make golfing history by becoming the First American to win the european tours race to dubai title. He leads the tour championship by a couple of shots going into round three. At the womens us open, englands charley hull is seven shots off the lead at the halfway point, but she did manage one of the shots of the day in houston. Japans Hinako Shibuno is in front on seven under par. And there was a bit of a shock at the scottish 0pen snooker as world number onejudd trump lost to chinas li hang in the quarter finals. No such problems though for ronnie 0sullivan he beat ding junhuio to progress to the semis. It wasnt all plain sailing, though, for 0sullivan, who was so unhappy with his cue tip that he bit it off. Idid hear i did hear this in the commentary andi i did hear this in the commentary and i have not seen him do it and i have no idea how somebody, i dont know how he has done before apparently, but he bit the top of the cue off. Dont try that at home. Good advice he has done it before . Many times over the years. I dont know. Its not a very pleasant thing to put in your mouth. Chalky robbery, a bit of metal at the end and you could get splinters rubbery. Health and safety disaster. Shall we see if we can find the pictures of it . I looked, i really wa nted pictures of it . I looked, i really wanted to see how he did it. I dont know how or why i wanted how would you even start with that . know how or why i wanted how would you even start with that . I will leave it out there. Thank you. 41 minutes past six. From a schoolboy Skiffle Group to becoming the undisputed kings of disco, the bee gees enjoyed phenomenal global success, but those famous smiles were often hiding dark and difficult times. The sibling rivalry, drug abuse and tragedy which dogged the band are all explored in a new feature length documentary. 0ur entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson has been speaking to the only surviving brother, sir barry gibb. His piece contains flashing images throughout. Ladies and gentlemen, will you welcome the bee gees the bee gees once again, the fabulous bee gees you can tell by the way i use my walk. You can tell by the way i use my walk. The you can tell by the way i use my walk. The most exciting sound in the world the biggest grossing album in the history of music. How can you mend a broken heart, looks at every aspect of the bee geess korea, including the first number one in 1967. And the lights all went down in massachusetts. And the phenomenon that was saturday night fever. As it changed your lives . The enormous success . Yes, i can safely say it has changed our lives. Whether youre a brother or whether youre a mother, youre staying alive. In 1978, seven us number one singles were written by the bee gees. Staying alive speaking from his home studio in miami, the surviving bee Gee Barry Gibb tried to explain what it was like to have that level of fame. All right. You dont really deal with it, you are just in the eye of a storm and in the middle of something where eve ryo ne the middle of something where everyone around you is crazy. It got to the point where i could not a nswer to the point where i could not answer the phone. And it got to the point where people were climbing over the walls and coming in to your grounds. Actually, that still happens who has been in your back garden lately, then . happens who has been in your back garden lately, then . I dont know but there are people who walk in. Our house on the bay is properly the best position on the bay. You know . So you get unusual people with lots of money, will say. We will buy your house. No, it is not for sale fame may have given barry a rather nice house but the documentary also deals with the lows. I cannot honestly come to terms with the fact that they are not here anymore. come to terms with the fact that they are not here anymore. Ijust wa nt they are not here anymore. Ijust want to be. His three younger brothers are all dead and andy, solo star, only 30 when his lifestyle took its toll. And barry had famously fallen out with both maurice and robin at the times of their deaths. All had struggled with life in the limelight. Why do you think you are the best equipped to deal with this . We all had our demons, we all had our issues between each other. But when it came to music, all of those things just disappeared. I dont know. Maybe being the eldest brother made me feel that i had responsibility to watch out for my other three brothers . We need to find a bigger sound for that solo. These days ive come to realise they probably didnt wa nt come to realise they probably didnt want that, you know . And i think maurice and robin primarily did not wa nt maurice and robin primarily did not want that. Andy in the end, i think felt i was getting credit for what he was doing. And thats what messes you up, thats what messes everybody up, this obsession with credit, and i think up, this obsession with credit, and ithink in up, this obsession with credit, and i think in every group youre going to see that. That may be the case but this documentary really does highlightjust but this documentary really does highlight just how much but this documentary really does highlightjust how much more there was to the bee gees and their dalliance with disco. Colin paterson, bbc news. Its going to be fascinating, isnt it . It really is, it is compelling when you hear the one surviving brother talking about reflections on the past. And the music, you cannot go wrong. The music is fantastic but also it is such happy music that you really could take it all on face value and i think that is going to be really, really interesting to watch. The bee gees how can you mend a broken heart is on Sky Documentaries tomorrow evening at 9 oclock. It will be available on dvd and digital download from monday. Heres stav with a look at the weather. I dont know if it is disco weather, really, stav, foggy and cold. This looks like the disco gas smoke. A foggy picture you mentioned looks like the disco gas smoke. A f0ggy picture you mentioned earlier, we have some areas of mist and fog and this is extreme Eastern England, lowestoft in suffolk. We do have some murkiness and outbreaks of rain and drizzle around this area of low pressure affecting the east of the country. This High Pressure will kill of the showers and break up the clouds and has already done that across Western Areas. A couple of showers for Northern Ireland, that sunshine will get into parts of south west scotland, wales and the midlands. But for eastern scotland, north east england and the general north east england and the general north east and south east of england, will hold onto the cloud and outbreaks with some outbreaks of rain. Some sunshine in the london area later on. Still on the cool side, temperatures eight or nine degrees, could see 10 degrees across the far south west. We hold onto the cloud than this evening and across the far north east of scotland because of this gearing our but because of this gearing our but because will be clearing, low pressure moving into the west will bring wetter and windier weather into much of the south west. Temperatures around 10 degrees, loose single figures further east. This area of low pressure means theres a lot of isobars on the charts, it will be ready for quite a while, and it will push bands of rain northwards across the country, some of it will be quite heavy across Western Areas. As it moves northwards over the mountains of scotland, where some cold air is locked in place, you could see some transient snow for a while. The wind will be a future for all, it would be blustery but certainly around southern and western coasts seeing a050 southern and western coasts seeing a0 50 miles an hour. Double figures in the temperatures for many, still on the cool side for the far north east of scotland into north east of scotland into north east england, but that will change as we head into monday, this area of the pressure sticks around and consider the north of the west of the uk, or windy weather and that weather pushed around the country, even weather pushed around the country, eve n a cross weather pushed around the country, even across parts of scotland and the Northern Isles. A blustery day to start the new working week, there will be some cells and longer spells of rain across southern and Western Areas, some quite heavy. Some sunshine around, the best chance staying dry around high ground. Double figures for most, including scotla nd double figures for most, including scotland as well, could see 12 or 13, very mild for this time of year. It stays unsettled as we had through the week, low pressure always nearby, we could see a spell of rain and gales on wednesday, and sunshine and gales on wednesday, and sunshine and showers as we move towards the end of the week. Temperatures in double figures as well, staying very mild. Naga and charlie. Thank you, stav, we will see you later on. Mild. Naga and charlie. Thank you, stav, we will see you later onm has been cold for a while. If you wa nt has been cold for a while. If you want warmer climates. Now its time for the travel show. Hello, and welcome to the travel show, coming to you from the festive windsor. Now, in spite of the glimmers of hope we are hearing on the news, for many of us, travel is still impractical. But never fear, because we are here to bring you inspiration amid all these dark and gloomy nights. First, though. For britains theatres, christmas can only mean one thing panto singing, dancing, comedy, romance and belting catchphrases. 0h, oh, no, it wasnt 0h, oh, no, it wasnt oh, yes, it was all based in a traditional fairytale setting. Pantomime has every ingredient needed for a fun family night out. Except in 2020, many of our much loved pantomimes dont have a stage to perform on. With only a limited number of shows still running across the country this year, panto, like the majority of the arts, has been dealt a heavy blow by covid. Data from play association uk theatre revealed ticket income from its members productions grossed £60 million last year, the highest amount ever. This winter, however, things couldnt be more different, and for many much loved regional theatres, its had a devastating impact. Its hugely devastating, and when we took on the theatre in 2016, it was completely on its knees. It was in desperate need of some tlc, its reputation was, erm, was dreadful, so we had a real hard slog and a battle to win the hearts and minds of the community, never mind the industry. And throughout our a yearjourney, we got several awards. Our pantomime that we just did last year, robin hood, was nominated in the top five pantomimes in the country for the british panto awards as best pantomime, which was huge, it was brilliant. And we really worked hard to get to that stage, and for it to so abruptly stop and bejust culled instantly wasjust like, yeah, i cant even put into words how soul destroying that was. Pantomimes origins can be traced back to italian street theatre in the early 16th century. From there, they spread across europe from italy to france before becoming popular in the uk. Ive got to say, ive always had a real affection for pantomime since i was a child and then i took my children to the theatre. But you know what . Ive got a sneaking sympathy, affection for the bad guy in pantomim, because the bad guy, you know, everyone boos and hisses them but actually, they re really important. Hang on, hang on, hang on a minute. Its notjust the bad guys who are important in panto, its also the good guys and i happen to be one of them as well. Why are you important, basil brush . Really, when you are in pantomime, its about good winning over evil, its a very moral story nowadays, you see, and i think thats very important, if you have the bad guys everybody boos and the good guys who get the cheer. Basil, ive got to say you are a veteran of pantomime, youve been doing it for decades and decades. This year has been tough. What effect has it had on you and your colleagues in theatre land . Ive got to tell you, its been one of the most toughest years since ever. Ive been a furloughed fox since march. But you see, i was supposed to be at the Glastonbury Festival and the Edinburgh Festival and i had a very full diary and it was pulled like most other entertainers but actors and musicians and performers are a very versatile bunch, they are good at getting other jobs because unemployment is part of being an actor, but this year was particularly terrible because those of the jobs didnt exist. While there have clearly been a lot of covid related panto closures this year, there is a glimmer of hope. Some productions are still happening, like this one, cinderella at Theatre Royal windsor. I better go start pampering myself and getting ready for the royal ball. Laters, losers. The theatre, and our director, had just done the most amazing job. I cant imagine the hours that were put in, so that were all safe, the audience is safe, and staging it, because as you do your lines, wherever someone moves to, youve got to keep that distance so if there are other lines you move around to out of the corner of the eye, you just have to see that youre in line. Tell me about how bad the impact is on a theatre if it has had to cancel pantomime this year . Economically, its incredibly important to theatres, so those that cant do anything this christmas, unless theyve been able to replace that income in some way, they are finding that incredibly difficult. But the other thing is pantomime is the lifeblood of Audience Development for theatres as well. Its the time of year when children experience theatre, often for the very first time in their lives. It was the case with me in the wooden theatre many, many years ago with cilla black in aladdin, i can remember it years ago, but pantomime is incredibly important for the theatre world on multiple levels, and i think theatres are going to miss it economically, theyre going to miss it in terms of development, theyre going to miss it in terms of outreach into their community. One, two, three, four, five, six. Here at Theatre Royal in windsor the running costs of staging cinderella are £50,000 a week. They say that with reduced capacity because of covid restrictions, they pretty much need to sell out to make it all financially viable. Maybe this being a prince isnt all its cracked up to be . In terms of the kind of compromises youve had to make, what are they, and where are they obvious . Well, the big obvious one is social distancing in the auditorium, and so we are limited to 50 , so its every other row of seats. And weve had to make changes to our ventilation system as well, and we are spraying the auditorium with antiviral disinfect before every performance. And then on the staging of the show, weve had to work quite carefully to make sure were working in fixed teams with managing social distancing backstage as well, and also things like audience participation, we dont want singing and cheering along because it can lead to aerosol transmission, so we are having to tweak the way we do things, to keep the magic of pantomime but make sure were doing it in a secure way. Its clear to see that because of covid, many regional theatre pantos have had a severe knockback this year. But in 2021, you can tell its such a big part of british tradition, itll be back even stronger. Now, there arent many warmer places at this time of year than the deserts around dubai. Thats where some locals, after months of restrictions and weight gain are taking on the dunes in a bid to shake off whats been a pretty tough year. We have been there to meet some of them. Do you know your table number . Four. Four youre this side, thank you very much. Im juliejohnson, im recently new to ultramarathon running. Ive been doing desert running for around a year. And im here today for the first desert run race of 2020. My typical race around the uae has usually been in the mountains or on the road, so this is going to be very interesting today, running seven dunes, i believe, so its going to be a lot of fun. Ive been running for seven years now, and the reason i started running is because its a great way to stay fit. For the first two years, i absolutely hated it. It was hard, it hurt, and it was boring. But it was also rewarding. I started to lose weight and actually began to enjoy it. Running on soft sand, though, is a whole different experience. Gravity feels stronger, the sand seems to want to drag you down, and you get tired a lot quicker. Five k here feels more like ten k on tarmac, and once you mix in the heat out here in the desert, it feels pretty brutal. Getting there lockdowns and restrictions have been hard on everybody around the world, but to be out here in the desert, in the early morning, running and doing what i love again, just feels amazing. In a strange way, maybe because we couldnt get out here and do things like this during lockdown, its made us appreciate what weve got on our doorstep here in dubai more. Cheering 50 minutes to do five kilometres over sand isnt bad. Im really pleased with that, even if i could cover that distance in half that time on tarmac. For me it was never about winning, i just wanted to get out here, maybe to show that despite covid and the current restrictions, we can still take part in sport and do the things that we love. Maybe a little differently, but we can still do them. It was just a beautiful, beautiful run. Seeing so many people out there, you can see that there are many out there for the very first time, to get their First Experience in the desert, it really puts a smile on my face. And im sure they will be back for more. The hardest part, actually, was the very last dune, it was a real tough one. But its a great sense of achievement when you get to the top and you run down the other side. The dune runners of dubai there. Right, well, thats it for this week. Coming up next time santa in lockdown, and how he and the rest of lapland are missing all the girls and boys who normally pay a Christmas Eve visit at this time of year. Until then, if you want to catch up with more of our recent shows, you can find us on the bbc iplayer, and were on social media as well. Were in all the usual places. But for now, from me, rajan datar, and everyone else standing at a safe social distance from me here in windsor, its goodbye. Good morning. Welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Our headlines today one day left to secure a trade deal talks will resume in brussels with both sides warning theyre unlikely to reach a post Brexit Agreement by tomorrows deadline. Us drug regulators approve the Pfizer Covid Vaccine. Almost 300,000 americans have died with the virus. We have already begun shipping the vaccine to every state and zip code in the country. The first vaccine will be administered in less than 2a hours. From today, travellers returning to the uk from the Canary Islands must self isolate. Some fear they wont get back in time to avoid christmas in quarantine. Good morning. The battle lines are drawn, the wait is nearly over as anthonyjoshua returns to the ring to defend his heavyweight titles against kubrat pulev at wembley arena tonight. Were used to him battling bad guys on the big screen, but keanu reeves tells how he handles the green screen in his latest role as a video game hero. Good morning to you. It looks like today will be the better day of the weekend. It looks like we will see some sunshine around, particularly across Western Areas, but tomorrow a low pressure system will sweep in, bringing wet and windy weather to our shores, but it will be turning gradually milder. Ill have all the details for you a bit later on. Good morning. Its saturday the 12th of december. Thank you forjoining us. Our top story is borisjohnson has chaired a meeting to check the uks preparedness for a no deal brexit as the trade negotiations with the eu, which are currently stuck in stalemate, are expected to end tomorrow. The ministry of defence has also confirmed that four Royal Navy Ships are on standby to protect british fishing waters if no agreement is in place when the transition period ends on the 31st of december. Heres our Political Correspondent jonathan blake. In downing street yesterday, the Prime Minister chaired what has been described as a stock take on the uks readiness to end its relationship with the eu without a trade deal. Visiting a manufacturing plant in northumberland, he said while its not the outcome he had wanted, britain would be prepared. Four royal Navy Patrol Boats will be ready to protect uk fishing waters, it was confirmed last night, as part of what the ministry of defence said was extensive preparation for a range of scenarios at the end of the transition period. In brussels, the eu rejected borisjohnsons attempt to meet key leaders individually to try to make progress. While some Member States sound more worried than others about a no deal outcome, they are united in their approach. Plans to manage traffic queues are being tested this weekend one of many possible consequences whether or not a Free Trade Agreement is reached. But still, so much is uncertain with less than three weeks to go. Jonathan blake, bbc news. Our Political Correspondent helen catt is in our london newsroom. Good morning to you, helen. This is a very curious day, this saturday, isnt it . Because it is the day before we are supposed to find out what will happen next. It is, tomorrow is the deadline that both sides have given to decide if a deal can be done. Of course deadlines have come and gone but we are running out of time. The transition period ends on december 31 so it feels like were moving towards that. Dominic raab described it as a moment of finality earlier this week. At the moment, publicly at least, it does not look like either side is giving ground. The uk we have seen this attempt to draw attention before attention to the deadline with the navy in the channel, not so little sign that the eu uk is channel, not so little sign that the eu uk is prepared to go alone but the eu is prepared to stick together, leaders like Angela Merkel and Emmanuel Macron saying they will not speak to Boris Johnson separately so publicly the two sides do not look like they are coming together and of course we dont know exactly what is being set in the negotiation room. All of the time they are talking a deal is still possible but we are still into those final few hours to find out if that is the case. Helen, thank you. The us food and Drug Administration has authorised the Pfizer Biontech Coronavirus Vaccine for emergency use. The agency had come under intense pressure from the Trump Administration to approve the vaccines use, and President Trump said the first vaccinations will take place in less than 2a hours. Our washington correspondent nomia iqbal has more. And after the recommendation came this intense political pressure by President Trump. He had called the fda a big, old slow turtle. He was demanding that they approve the vaccine. He had this to say, once that green light came. The first vaccine will be administered in less than 2a hours. The governors decide where the vaccines will go in their state and who will get them first. We want our senior citizens, healthcare workers and First Responders to be first in line. I promised that we would produce a vaccine in record time, before the end of the year. They said it couldnt be done. But with todays announcement, we have now achieved that goal. There is pressure for protection because the pandemic is surging here. On wednesday one day alone there were more than 3000 deaths and mr trump is keen to turn those headlines away from americans dying to american being vaccinated as he leaves the white house. And we will now see what will be the largest Vaccination Campaign in us history. People who are over 16 will receive the jab. Health workers and the elderly living in Nursing Homes will be the first to receive the vaccination. Those with severe allergic reactions are recommended not to take the vaccine, but the us is also waiting for approval on another vaccine made by the company moderna, and thats expected to go through the same robust approval processes next week. Anyone arriving in the uk from the Canary Islands must now go into quarantine. The new rules came in to force at four oclock this morning after the islands were removed from the travel corridor list because of a rise in covid cases. However, the isolation period is being cut from 1a to ten days, as john mcmanus reports. With december temperatures in the low 20s, life is still a beach on the Canary Islands. But for holiday makers returning from there to the uk from aam this morning, the welcome home is going to be bit chillier. They will have to go into quarantine after the canaries were removed from the uks travel corridors list because of rising infections there. Tour operator tui says it has around 5000 uk customers on the islands. Many will have been unable to change their plans to beat the deadline. There is some good news, though the time spent in isolation for those returning from high risk areas will be cut from 1a days to ten. The relaxation also applies to those who have been in contact with virus carriers. The change has already started in wales. The rest of the uk follows on monday. Wales is facing a serious challenge, though. With more than 1900 people in hospital with the virus, there has been a warning that another lockdown may be imposed after christmas if current restrictions, which include School Lessons moving online from monday, fail to work. If those measures do not succeed in turning the tide of the virus, then it is inevitable that we will have to consider a move to alert level four immediately after christmas. In parts of london and the south east, cases are also rising, particularly among secondary school aged children. Past experience shows this can precede a jump in infections for older age groups. Elsewhere in england, 67 local authorities which are under the highest tier three rules have been given the green light from the government to offer rapid result testing programmes to help them cut transmission rates. Ministers say the move follows a successful trial in liverpool, but there are concerns over the tests after preliminary data from the city showed they had missed 51 of covid cases. The government, though, insists the tests are reliable and can help quickly detect the virus in those who dont have symptoms. John mcmanus, bbc news. World leaders will set out their plans for cutting Greenhouse Gas emissions at a Virtual Summit today, which is being co hosted by the uk. Ahead of the summit which takes place on the fifth anniversary of the paris climate agreement the uk government announced it would cut taxpayer funding for fossil fuel projects abroad. Our chief environment correspondent Justin Rowlatt has more. Speaks french. There were celebrations when a global deal on climate was finally done in paris five years ago. Today. For the first time, the whole world agreed that all nations need to play their part in keeping Climate Change to 1. 5 celsius. The only problem was the commitment made in paris were not enough to do the job. In fact, until this year, co2 emissions have been steadily rising. The woman who helped secure the paris deal says action is urgent. Science has been telling us for decades we are running out of time, we are running out of time, we are running out of time but now, it is really, really, really, really dangerous. In paris World Leaders agreed to get together every five years to try to up their game, raising their targets for cutting emissions. That was to have happened at a conference hosted by the uk in glasgow in november this year. Thanks to the covid 19 pandemic, but has been put off till next year so instead, World Leaders will be gathering virtually today. Borisjohnson will be chairing the meeting from a room here. The future of our planet is at stake and mr johnson will be hoping that countries will bring old targets to the table. That will make getting a really ambitious global deal on cutting emissions in glasgow next year much more likely. Justin rowlatt, bbc news. One other story for you this morning, 11 minutes past seven on a saturday morning. Mariah careys song all i want for christmas is you has reached number one in the uk charts 26 years after its original release. I dont want a lot for christmas. There isjust one thing i need. Its been streamed nearly 11 million times this week alone. So far the song has earned mariah more than £a5 million in royalties and has spent 70 weeks in the uks top 100 since its release in 199a. Watching that video im rather hoping that father christmas is benefiting from the success of the song over the years as well. Somehow, i dont think so all that dog. No, nor the reindeer. 12 minutes past seven. Lets concentrate for a moment on the situation with travel corridors and specifically the Canary Islands. Holidaymakers returning to the uk from the Canary Islands say their Christmas Plans have been thrown into jeopardy after quarantine rules were imposed. This is what is happening. Anyone arriving in the uk after a oclock this morning must isolate, due to rising infection rates. But from monday, the quarantine period will be cut from 1a to 10 days. This also applies retrospectively for travellers who left a high risk country before this date. But travellers can have the option of reducing that even further if they pay for a private coronavirus test and receive a negative result. Those rules will come into force from tuesday december 15. We can speak to two people in the Canary Islands now. Ivor langord is in lanzarote and charles yeomansion is in fuerteventura. Good morning to you both. , tell us what is happening with you in la nza rote. What is happening with you in lanzarote. Ivor. What is happening with you in lanzarote. Ivor. Ive been here sincejuly lanzarote. Ivor. Ive been here since july and it lanzarote. Ivor. Ive been here sincejuly and it is alive over here and we have to wear a mask and we are used to wet and the low cases over here in lanzarote, were pretty safe and in fact we are safer here than in england tell aviv is pretty bad, i think, tell a than in england tell aviv is pretty bad, ithink, tella reef than in england tell aviv is pretty bad, i think, tell a reef but it is past the joke, bad, i think, tell a reef but it is past thejoke, i bad, i think, tell a reef but it is past the joke, i wanted to go home two weeks ago because her father caught covid 19 in hospital so im here now on my own and due to fly back on the 16th. Then i have to isolate for ten days which means, because i will not be allowed to go to england because that is where my wife is because obviously she cannot see her father wife is because obviously she cannot see herfather due to wife is because obviously she cannot see her father due to covid and i cannot go back to my holiday side down in england so it looks like i will have Christmas Day on my own andi will have Christmas Day on my own and i dont know where yet. Ivor, there are new rules in the coming into force on tuesday so you can pay for a private coronavirus test and if you receive a negative result, but will reduce your isolation period so there is that option. Yes, there is. We have to find out one, there is. We have to find out one, the cost, because we dont know the cost yet and also, are they in the West Midlands because thats where i come from, from worcestershire, so if there is a clinic or where we can go, i will go and obviously pay for it but at the moment there is no information from the government where we can go and where we cannot go. Inaudible news over here saying with the lanzarote government, saying we dont need a pcr test to come back here because we are due to come back here because we are due to come back here because we are due to come back out for new year and they will allow an different test which is good news and especially in the afternoon grant shapps came on and said we are now back in quarantine and it is ridiculous because we are so safe here. Yes, it is strict but you can get about places are open, the island is very, very, very quiet and normally this time of year there isa and normally this time of year there is a lot more people which is what we we re is a lot more people which is what we were planning to do and again, with exit coming up we wanted to do this for a few years. Crosstalk. So it interrupts. I think we should hear from charles if we can. Its charlie in the studio. You know what im thinking, charles, as we were listening earlier, explaining the tricky situation, some people may be thinking lucky you, charles, you are in the Canary Islands, sunshine. You know, its saturday morning, and we would like to be there, too. What problems are you facing . Tell us more. Yes, so you know, just off the cup, idid more. Yes, so you know, just off the cup, i did a bit of research before it came out here, i am going back today, i have been here for a week, lam facing today, i have been here for a week, i am facing quarantine and am pretty annoyed about that. I did the research before i came out here, found they only have 40 per 100,000 in fuerteventura, and in the greek islands, some greek islands are allowed on the air corridor exemption list, i was so surprised when the announcement that the ca nary when the announcement that the Canary Islands were on the list as a whole of the air corridor list. can appreciate your frustration, charles. Did you have options . Did you think about trying to get back to avoid quarantine . you think about trying to get back to avoid quarantine . I found out on friday morning, and i am coming back today, so, yes, pretty annoyed. Just, you know, i havent had the chance to there are no other flights back to birmingham, where i flew from, so for me there is no option but to take the quarantine when i come back. I will consider a private test. One reason fuerteventura in the canaries, since mid november they have been requiring a pcr test and a negative result before you can actually come. So all the people here in the hotel have had a negative test and twice a day we are checked for our temperature, when we go into the dining room. So there are lots of protocols you to keep us safe, and so, yes, we have got an infection rate here that is less than half of what it is in the south west of england. So, to be quarantine, you wouldnt expect someone going from devon to cornwall to have to quarantine for ten days stop so, yes, a bit annoyed, especially as, you know, places like fuerteventura are still very, very low, probably one of the lowest in the whole of europe. Good to talk to both of you, good to get both of your views. Thank you very much. We should say obviously we will be talking that these options and making sure they are clear, but after the fifth day you return, you get a test, and if it is negative, that would shorten your quarantine period. Stav is here with the weather. Are you looking at those pictures of the Canary Islands, the beach and the warmth, you cant help but think, can you . Notwithstanding the problems people are facing. Absolutely, charlie, i was thinking that as well. But at least on the plus side for the weather here it will not be looking as cold as december has been so far. It is going to turn milderfrom today and tomorrow onwards as wet and windy weather spreads in. Today we have increasing sunshine across Western Areas, it will slowly push eastwards throughout the day courtesy of this ridge of High Pressure. This is sundays wet, windy weather approaching fast across the atlantic, bringing quite across the atlantic, bringing quite a lot of cloud and some murkiness across scotland, much of northern and Eastern England at times. The heavy rain gradually petering out through the day, we have had a warning here for over 2a hours. It turns a little bit drier here. Sunny skies out west slowly creeping their way eastwards throughout the day. By the afternoon you will have a definite east west divide. Temperatures eight or nine degrees for many of us, we could scrape ten across the far south west. As we head on into this evening, it looks like the rain and showers eventually query from many eastern areas, and thatis query from many eastern areas, and that is clear and dry for a time before wet and windy weather starts spilling from the west, and here it will turn mild, 7 10 degrees, by chilly under clear skies across eastern areas stop this area of low pressure is a deeper system we have seen pressure is a deeper system we have seen for quite a while, and it is managing to push right across the whole country, so we start of chilly with a little bit of early brightness across the far east and the north east there, very soon the cloud, the wind and the rain will spread northwards. You could see transience over the spread northwards. You could see tra nsience over the scottish mountains as the rain bumps into the cold there. It will be windy for all of us, particularly across the southern and western coasts, around a0 miles an hour inland, 30 miles an hour. A milderfor most of us, most of england and wales have temperatures in double figures, good for scotland. The area of low pressure sticks by for much of next week, in fact, we could see further lows and deeper areas and in gales times. The milder is pushing northwards, reaching much of scotla nd northwards, reaching much of scotland and the Northern Isles as we start the new working week. This is the picture from monday, blustery for many, it wont be a washout by all means that some of the outbursts could be heavy, especially for southern and Western Areas. The best of the sunshine in the east. A few paces could stay dry altogether. Temperatures very mild for this time of year, 11 13 for many and double figures across scotland, too. It stays steady for the rest of the week and that we could see spells of rain and gales and low pressure skirting up the western side of the country. You may notice temperatures remaining in double figures for most. Thank you, stav. It is 7 21am. 67 local authorities in england will start mass testing programmes for coronavirus from monday. The announcement comes as data shows covid cases falling in most of england and Northern Ireland, although there are doubts about the accuracy of the rapid flow tests being used. Lets go through some of these issues with linda bauld, professor of Public Health at the university of edinburgh. Its good to have you with us again this morning, linger. We have so much to go through, havent we . So we start with the 67 local authorities using these enhanced tests in a bid to cut these cases and ease restrictions as to mark how quickly will we know if they are making a difference . Well, they are very rapid tests stop there is a bit ofa very rapid tests stop there is a bit of a debate about their accuracy. In fa ct, of a debate about their accuracy. In fact, some results were released from the liverpool pilot just earlier this week and you can see these tests are good at picking up positive cases, people with a higher viral load, but actually, they are not that good at being absolutely certain that somebody who tests negative really is negative. So lets be cautious about them. But they are very quick. Its places like slovakia where they have tested a very significant majority of the population, they discovered thousands of cases in the population they didnt know about. Did you make a role, they make a difference, but they are not perfect. There was preliminary data released on friday by sa ge, which suggested the rapid coronavirus test in liverpool mist around 51 of all over 19 cases. Firstly, whoa, that is a really surprising number, and how did they extrapolate that . Was it from a small number of failed tests to then say more than half were not spotted . These rapid flow test the accuracy is really not that great, but it is because they are so quick. It depends who is administering them, et cetera. They are not a Silver Bullet and there is huge expense involved in rolling this out. The problem with the pcr test, the gold standard, they take such a long time to get results stop there are tensions. If youre doing it at scale, need the testing to be right. I think these technologies will transform the situation in the new year where we can have more accuracy and speed, but were not there yet. That is it at the moment. It seems we have to make a choice based on an accurate result between 2a and a8 hours of going for this rapid test thatis hours of going for this rapid test that is less accurate. What makes this new test better . What we are looking out from research being done in the us and also some approaches that have been tried in south africa is it is a pcr test, but what it can do is test a very large number of people at once and use new techniques to try and identify if there is a positive case in that bad, very rapidly. So you would get help from pcr testing and it is also slightly quicker. Scale from pcr testing. So this isnt being used in the uk at the moment but i am confident in the new year there will be those kinds of approaches. Straight question. Do you think the five day break over christmas, allowing more people to mix is a goodidea . Allowing more people to mix is a good idea . I think it is going to have consequences. I completely understand why governments are doing that stop tahalia roy early, people are fed up, they want to see their families, and for many of them behaviourally, but listening to comments from the north Island Health minister, which i think the bbc has also reported, two people in Northern Ireland, to expect more restrictions in january just Northern Ireland, to expect more restrictions injanuaryjust coming out of three weeks of restrictions there, if people really take advantage of those christmas bubbles, i think that is the view of many of us. If you are meeting people indoors from other households, there is poor ventilation, maybe there are even olderfamily ventilation, maybe there are even older family members in those bubbles, unfortunately, because the virus has not been eliminated, and in some parts of the uk like wales, the numbers are going up stop i think that means the Christmas Period is a risk. You are a professor of public of mentioned in Northern Ireland the Health Minister, avoid gapping, to we will be talking to vaughan gething, said rates were going up. When you are advising on Public Health and talking about the bands, talking about protect the nhs, protect our loved ones, and we know that five daysis loved ones, and we know that five days is going to make a difference, what is stopping any government or any Public Health body from saying just dont do it . Well, i think the problem is it came to a four nations agreement and one of the things the public has fed up with is the chopping and changing during this pandemic. Its not impossible. To be perfectly honest, i think this is a mistake. I really do. And i think people even though we are permitted to do this, people have to think very carefully and see loved ones ina think very carefully and see loved ones in a very modest way. Im concerned about the trap of people going from high to low awareness. There is nothing to stop them rolling back on that and say we have changed our minds, but the problem is they have made that commitment to people across the uk, and that may affect trust in government, if they roll back on that. It will be interesting to hear what vaughan gapping says later on your programme vaughan gething. Gapping says later on your programme vaughan gething. We will be speaking to him at half past eight. Linger bauld, thank you for your candour this morning. Professor of Public Health talking to us from the university of edinburgh. Were used to seeing keanu reeves in hollywood movies like the matrix and john wick but now hes playing one of the lead characters in a video game called cyberpunk 2077. Should i say it again . Cyberpunk 2077. Have a said that right . think so. I have an image of you playing it. Jonah reeves has been talking about that experience and learning a bit of wealth, too. Here is more with Steffan Powell. Motion capture, baby johnny silverhand. Cyberpunk 2077 takes place in a dystopian future. Its an open world of role playing games and a mega city cold night city. You play a character cold v who is lets say, gunfire mercenary in the game and you get job say, gunfire mercenary in the game and you getjob and things go wrong and you getjob and things go wrong and you getjob and things go wrong and you end up putting in this chip in order to survive, and lo and behold, you got a visitor named johnny silverhand, and that is characterised play. The core of the mission is youre to survive in this fairly dangerous environment. Gaming has had loads of people during lockdown a snake helped loads of people. How important is it you think, for people to have things like this and go and escape . Some people say it is escapism. But they could even be described as something thatis could even be described as something that is necessary, in order to continue to interact with, you know, the pressures of your day today. I think there are positive aspects about community, about needing help, about community, about needing help, about friendship, and personally, i hope those kinds of elements can exist in the stories that i am a pa rt exist in the stories that i am a part of telling. Is there something about places like this, if you look at this one withjohnny silverhand and perhaps neo in the matrix and brillante, they look at the future in different ways. Bill and ted. I grew in different ways. Bill and ted. Igrew up in different ways. Bill and ted. I grew up reading new romance are, Philip K Dick i grew up reading new romance are, Philip K Dick neuromancer, hitchhikers guide to the galaxy, mad max, even planet of the apes, lord of the rings, and exploration of fa ntasy, lord of the rings, and exploration of fantasy, science fiction, i feel like the motives that occur motifs in this kind of storytelling is often examining the world we live in. Something there was something aspirational or supportive in participating in these stories. And that gave me escapism, but also helped me define my worldview, and interpret the world. Yeah, a life that has been difficult for many this year. Are you optimistic about what the future might look like . Some of these worlds are quite dark stop is that optimism to be found . will try im working on my optimism. 2021 will surely be better than this one, right, keanu . Hopefully. It will be better if we work together, than a part. What did you enjoy about the process most . What was different, and what was a challenge in a good way or something you have learnt perhaps from this experience . Being able to play one character but play different emotional states, that is something i dont get to do when im doing narrative fiction. So it was good to have that opportunity. Johnny silverhand has got metallic arms stop the clue is in the title. In the process, do you think about how you could augment yourself . I was i could have better eyesight. It would be helpful if i had 2020 vision, and let metallic eyes, i would take it. I wouldnt mind a chip where i could speak more languages. That is a good idea iam speak more languages. That is a good idea i am wales, you could put that in yourchip, one idea i am wales, you could put that in your chip, one word is the word for thank you. Diolch. Diolch thank you cheers, man, iappreciate it will you cheers, man, iappreciate it will i you cheers, man, iappreciate it will i appreciate it. And you can hear even more of keanu reeves talking to Steffan Powell on the gaming Podcast Press x to continue available on bbc sounds. Stay with us, headlines coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Charlie Stayt and Naga Munchetty. Good morning. Lets talk to holly, it is after half past seven and i have learned something new today which i love doing and i did not realise that you can lose three titles in one fight. It is brutal, it turns out boxing is little you spent all the time collecting all of your belts and they are gone the good thing is you can win them all back again so there is that. Anthony joshua did that. He lost his belts to anthony ruiz joshua did that. He lost his belts to anthony ruinunior and won them back a year ago so it can be done but it is brutal but tonight, plenty at stake and there will be a thousand fans at wembley arena tonight forjoshuas first fight in just over a year. He defends his world titles against the bulgarian kubrat pulev with plenty at stake for both men, as rhia chohan reports. One of the things i learned is that perhaps one should be a little bit more careful. Not quite so brave. Some advice from kubrat pulev but the bulgarians opponents Anthony Joshua will be risking it all when he puts his belt on the line tonight. At wembley. This legacy of mine does not last forever so while im doing it i will do it to the best i can. That we cant beat me. That boy cant beat me. Im too good. This fight was postponed back in 2017 when pulev pulled up with an industry and the pandemic related even further. It is heavyweight Dillian Whyte thinks the added years could cost pulev. He is going to try his best but ijust think this thing is all about timing and i think his inactivity will be his downfall and joshuais inactivity will be his downfall and joshua is the younger and he seems to be revamped and he is happy so i think he will beat pulev in five rounds. To witness the spectacle will be 1000 fans allowed in the arena for the First Time Since the start of the pandemic. Gavin watkins paid £a00 to cheer onjoshua with his son. It was kind of last minute that we decided to go but yet got lucky and managed to get the tickets and glad we did. I think it will be a tough fight, heavyweight boxing, it is. All has lost only once in 29 fights while joshua it is. All has lost only once in 29 fights whilejoshua stepped into the ring for his First Time Since beating andrew really is union in a of his junior last beating andrew really is union in a of hisjunior last year. Beating andrew really is union in a of hisjunior last year. This ager is a better ager and he is sensible and will not take the stupid risks he has taken in the past. I think hes in the best shape ive ever seen him, both physically and mentally. Tonight, there is more at stake than victory and it showed in the way in. Pulev is fighting to fulfil his late fathers wish. For a son to become bulgarians first heavyweight world champion. For joshua,it heavyweight world champion. For joshua, it is a step closer to a heavyweight unification against tyson fury, about that boxing fans are desperate to see. They are going to make so much noise that if you close your eyes you are going to think there is 10,000 people in there cheering ajay on. Im getting goose bumps just thinking about it rhia chohan, bbc news. Steve bonds with his goose bumps and we will hear from him steve bonds with his goose bumps and we will hearfrom him later on. And you can listen to the fight on bbc radio 5 live from 10 oclock tonight. Heading over to the football. West ham are having a really Good Premier League season so far, and their good form continued with a 2 1win at leeds last night. They went behind to an early penalty but got themselves level and then won it ten minutes from time, thanks to this thumping header from angelo 0gbonna. West ham are now up to fifth in the table. The Manchester Derby is one of four premier league games today. Kick off is at 5 30. As well as questions about his teams inconsistent form, united boss ole Gunnar Solskjaers once again been talking about paul pogba. The midfielder has been in and out of the team, and a few noses were put out ofjoint when the frenchmans agent announced that pogba wanted to leave the club. But solskjaer says hes got no problems with his players attitude. Theres been other players that have been refusing to train, refusing to play. And they are not here anymore, of course, but paul is not once done that and he isjust of course, but paul is not once done that and he is just focused of course, but paul is not once done that and he isjust focused on performing when he gets a chance. Plenty taking place today, loads of the premier league and the Scottish Open continues and thank you to eve ryo ne open continues and thank you to everyone sending me pictures of Ronnie Osullivan biting the tip of his cue. I have been doing probably 70 miles over two days and i could not walk that i cannot walk 70 miles in two days, my legs would be falling off it is great that you can grow. What is motivating you . I know you are raising money for Alzheimers Research uk and yesterday we were reporting and celebrating the life of Dame Barbara Windsor who died at the age of 83 and she did so much to raise awareness. Well, she did. She was a special lady for me because when i was 12 years old and barbara was on the carry on films she was always that naughty lady but 12 year old lads go crazy about so she meant a lot to me. Given the opportunity, i am helping people to have similar feelings about barbara to make a donation to Alzheimers Research uk. You can do that by going onto just giving page, look up frank roth well and you can donate directly to that. And what is best about this charity, not particularly the charity but the ice and foods charitable and asian a matching funding what you donate up to half £1 million so you send a tenor and they will put a tenner in and that is fantastic and i am happy about that. Frank, it is terrific what you are doing and clearly people get the impression you are very chipper and an upbeat kind of person but there is a serious challenge lying ahead of you. Talk to usa challenge lying ahead of you. Talk to us a little bit about, i dont know, the waves that you might encounter because there are some formidable challenges lying ahead. Well, there most certainly are. I think the Biggest Challenges going to be my wifejudith. We have been married 50 years, we were childhood sweetheart and got married as teenagers and i really am going to missjudith. I teenagers and i really am going to miss judith. Are we determined to get through this, jasmine . Theres no turning back now. Jasmine says there is no turning back so we are determined to do it and we have all been trained and jasmine and myself have trained together in hartlepool and away in june and what jasmine has achieved is fantastic because she only had her boat injune and she raised the funds herself and just to show young people you can do things if you want. It is a good message, frank. For the benefit of our audience and for jasmines for the benefit of our audience and forjasmines sake, bring her into the shop a little bit because we can actually only see half of her face so bring her in. Frank, one last thing, the flat cap you are wearing, will it stay on through the journey . Is that your plan . This is the plan, yes, this hat will be on my head all the time because ive not got much there. I will burn my head i have to wear my hat at all times. Sensible. It has become a trademark as well. We have it on our logo. Everybody, if you cannot see that, just giving, Frank Rothwell. We wish you all of the best and maybe we can, ithink you all of the best and maybe we can, i think we should try to keep in touch and we wish all of the best and be careful out there as well look after yourself. And jasmine, good luck to you as well goodbye, both frank has got a lot to say. A lot of energy. So up for his journey. Who needed a motivational speech . We all need some cheery weather and a chat to frank. There is not too much good news on the weather front, then. Milder, but some people do like it colder in winter, but some of you are probably fed up after the cold weather we have had so far since december one, this weekend we have got quite a bit of sunshine around Western Areas thanks to this ridge of High Pressure moving in. It will stay quite cloudy further is because of the low and the steep area of low pressure with rain and gales is going to arrive for sunday but the temperatures will be rising. This is saturdays picture, then, starting murky, grey, outbreaks across eastern scotland, some of the quite heavy, we will have that warning lifted fees in scotland i ran midday. Any mist and fog should clear away, too, Northern Ireland, western scotland into western england, wales and into the midlands, we could see nine or 10 degrees. Still on the cool side further north and east. It stays pretty grey, further showers across eastern areas this evening and overnight skies were clear for many, but out west this next area of low pressure will be moving in, bringing strong winds and some pretty heavy rain across Northern Ireland and wales and the south west. Here it will be mild, 7 10 overnight and quite chilly with clear skies over central and eastern areas with Single Digits there. The area of low pressure starts to sweep in for sunday, so a big change for sunday. You may start up with some brightness across northern and eastern areas, quite chilly, too, but soon the wind and rain will move in here because yes, the air is quite cold across scotland, some of the air over the mountain could turn into sleet and snow for a time. The rain heavy over the southern and western h ills rain heavy over the southern and Western Hills and it will be windy for all areas with gales, a0 50 mauser now across the south and west. Motocross southern and Western Areas, 12 13 degrees here, eight or nine celsius further north and still chilly air around. It will push the mild annual they are right across scotla nd mild annual they are right across scotland and into the Northern Isles. Milder area never too far away, when we stay in the warmer sector for away, when we stay in the warmer sectorfor much of away, when we stay in the warmer sector for much of the upcoming week. This is mondays picture. The story for all, sunshine around in eastern areas, some showery rain affecting southern and Western Areas, that proving quite heavy at times. And those temperatures, despite the wind, the rain will be very mild. 11 13 degrees in the south and we could see double figures across much of scotland and into the Northern Isles. The rest of the week it stays unsettled, we could see a smell of rain in gales affecting many parts of the uk on wednesday, you notice the temperature is staying in double figures for all areas. And charlie. I have noticed that i will enjoy that mild weather. Thanks, stav. It is 7 a8am. Time now for newswatch, with samira ahmed. Hello and welcome to newswatch with me, samira ahmed. Good news dominates covid coverage this week as the nhs rolls out the first vaccine injections. Well be discussing the bbcs responsibility in covering the vaccine and the issue of the uk being the first to approve one. The ongoing drama about whether the uk and the eu would secure a trade deal has occupied lots of news airtime over the past seven days, but when considering the defining image of the week, theres really only one contender. A modest scene at this hospital in coventry, yet one on which it rests the hope notjust of a nation but also much of the world to finally free ourselves from the virus. And it felt good. Margaret keenan there on tuesday, becoming the first person in the world to receive the pfizer covid 19 injection as part of a mass Vaccination Programme. The start of that programme has been greeted rapturously in most quarters, but some people have concerns over the vaccines safety. Last week, dr anthony fauci, the director of Americas National institute of infectious diseases, appeared to validate those concerns when he said that the uk had rushed approval of the vaccine. The following day, though, he apologised and rowed back over those remarks, telling the bbc he had a great deal of confidence in what the uk does both scientifically and from a regulator standpoint. But for some viewers, coverage of his initial statement had done some damage. Heres rosemary bashford. This week, there was more anxiety when two nhs workers had an allergic reaction after being vaccinated. As the bbc reported, they both have a history of serious allergic reactions, carry adrenaline pens round with them, and both felt fine the next day. But the headline to the story on the bbc news website prompted a twitter user called fountain pen to post this. So, how much attention should bbc news give to worries about the safety of covid vaccines and scepticism about the Vaccination Programme . Dominic hampson, a junior doctor, saw this article a couple of weeks ago on the bbc news website and contacted us by email. Well, a report last week from Global Health correspondent Tulip Mazumdar set out to examine the problem of disinformation around the vaccine. I spoke to trainee solicitor oscar, whos taking part in vaccine trials at Imperial College london, and Production Designer nina. I would like to be vaccinated because i think its one of the only ways out of this situation. I have quite mixed feelings. Im not sure how much i trust the vaccine yet, because it happened so quickly. That report went on to address the challenge of counteracting misinformation. Chris westhead wasnt satisfied, though, and recorded this video for us to explain why. In recent News Coverage canvassing views from the public about the take up of the covid vaccines, i was alarmed at the equal weight given to the opinions of two people interviewed, one in positive agreement to receiving the vaccine and the other person who was not convinced it was safe due to the vaccine trials happening too quickly. Following the bbc over publicising the discredited concern about the nmr vaccine 20 years ago, will viewers continue to hear negative opinions freely offered against the covid vaccines supported by no evidence . I know the bbc aims to present balanced views on Serious Health issues, but i believe it needs to address how its apportioning the appropriate weight to contrasting views. Well, to discuss all these issues around Vaccine Coverage, im joined by carol rubra, the editor of the health and science unit at bbc news. Thank you for coming on newswatch. Can we start with the reporting of dr faucis comments and the concern around that . He subsequently backtracked very quickly, but was there ever a doubt for bbc news that you needed to report what hed said . No, there wasnt. I mean, dr fauci is the equivalent in the us of chris whitty, chief medical officer here, and so if dr fauci says something about the pfizer vaccine, then clearly its newsworthy and its important that the bbc reports it. What we tried to do was to give people the context around the comments so that people were able to have enough information to make up their own minds. For example, we were able to expand the process that the mhra, the regulating body in the uk, had gone through, the fact that they had had a rolling review of the vaccine, and so we gave people the context around the comments. And then when fauci corrected and apologised for his comments shortly afterwards, we gave that similar prominence so that the audience were able to see that he had changed what he was saying about the vaccine. Another very specific news story was the two nhs workers who had the allergic reaction. Were you worried at all that that being Headline News might play into some peoples fears about the vaccine . Its always a worry, and that means that we have to think very carefully about how we report instances like this. But clearly, theres a huge Public Interest in the vaccine, and it was very important that the bbc reported these two allergic reactions. And the head of the mhra, june raine, had talked about it in the select committee that morning, so what we were very careful to do was to make clear that several thousand people had had the vaccine the previous day and these were just two people whod had an allergic reaction. We know that its common nowadays to make headlines into questions on the news website, but we heard that doctor who complained, the headline that read covid vaccines how safe are they really . You know, doesnt that feed uncertainty . There is a section of the population who are uncertain about the vaccine and have got lots of questions about safety, and what were trying to achieve in the bbc is to give people that information so that when they have got those questions, they can get the answers from a source that they trust. And so what we do is we do change our headlines according to what people are searching for online, so that the bbcs answers can be easily found. We saw in one of those clips of Tulip Mazumdar voxpopping members of the public expressing uncertainty. Whats your view about the role of that in Vaccine Coverage . So, theres a difference between people who are hesitant about the vaccine, who want more information and have got questions about the safety, and people who are unconvinced about vaccines, know what they think and have already made up their minds. Thats a much Smaller Group of people. And weve got a real role in giving people some of that information to answer the understandable questions that theyve got. But we need to find ways of doing that that dont add to the noise and dont amplify some of the disinformation. Now, we do know that theres been this huge growth in anti vaxxer conspiracy theories spread online, mainly through social media. How much of an impact are they having on how you think about coverage of the vaccines . We make sure that what we say is based on the evidence, based on what scientists are telling us and based on the data. A really important number to come back to is that one in 1,000 people have already died in the uk since the start of this pandemic after being infected with coronavirus. No vaccine is risk free, and we need to be honest about that, but we need to help the audience to understand those risks and set them against the dangers of coronavirus. But there is concern from scientists that the misinformation and the fake news which is being shared on social media may put people off from having a vaccine which could potentially save their lives, so we do feel that weve got a really Important Role to play in giving people the right information but also in tackling some of that misinformation. And we have a disinformation unit whos doing work, looking at some of the fake claims online. And Marianna Spring is doing some work on that. And then in addition to that, theres the trusted news initiative, where the bbc is working with Media Organisations all over the world to try and tackle some of the misinformation and disinformation, and thats particularly important on vaccines. In the end, carol, were in this interesting situation where there is this national Vaccination Programme being rolled out by the government through the nhs. Is it the bbcsjob to promote it . Its not the bbcs job to promote it. Its the bbcs job to give people accurate and impartial information about the vaccines and about the science around those vaccines, so that people can make up their own minds based on the facts. Carol rubra, thank you so much. Finally, you may have noticed we have our fourth different studio backdrop in the past four weeks. A month ago, we featured concerns that bbc staff who could be seen behind some interviewees, filmed here at broadcasting house, were not socially distancing or wearing masks. It turned out that those pictures were not live pictures of the newsroom but footage recorded before coronavirus had been heard of, and then run in the back of the shot. So, we replaced our own pre recorded newsroom background with these pictures, but some viewers objected that they were distracted by the lifts going up and down. Last week, we tried out this less active backing, but now we can bring you these newly shot images of the newsroom, which reflect the current way of working here. Probably enough about studio backgrounds for a while, but before we leave the subject, heres a suggestion from peter furneaux. Thank you for all your comments this week. Our top story. Borisjohnson has chaired a meeting to check the uks preparedness for a no deal brexit as the trade negotiations with the eu which are currently stuck in stalemate are expected to end tomorrow. The ministry of defence has also confirmed that four Royal Navy Ships are on standby to protect british fishing waters if no agreement is in place when the transition period ends on the 31st of december. Heres our Political Correspondent, jonathan blake. All your thinking on the saturday morning is what will happen tomorrow . Tomorrow night is that deadline that both sites are set to see if a deal can be done so that is what youre working towards. At the moment, both sides sounding still pretty far a pa rt moment, both sides sounding still pretty far apart and if anything, hardening the positions of the last a8 hours. In the uk, attention being drawn to the preparations for no deal sending a very clear message of being prepared to go it alone and from the eu side, by emmanuelle macron and Angela Merkel, they are saying it has to go through the eu and that sign being that they are sticking together and there is solidarity in the Single Market so publicly, at least, they are not coming together but what really matters is what is going on inside the negotiating room and we really cannot know what stage they are at. We do know the difference is have been big and they have been real. This is not entirely some sort of manufactured row, but if they can close those by tomorrow to see their way to a deal, that will be the big question this weekend full the us food and Drug Administration has authorised the Pfizer Biontech Coronavirus Vaccine for emergency use. pres the agency had come under intense pressure from the Trump Administration to approve the vaccines use and President Trump said the first vaccinations will take place in less than 2a hours. Our washington correspondent nomia iqbal has more. We want our senior citizens, Health Care Workers and First Responders to be first in line. Anyone arriving into the uk from the Canary Islands will now have to self isolate. The new rules came in to force at four oclock this morning after the islands were removed from the travel corridor list because of a rise in covid cases. However, the quarantine period for travellers from all high risk countries is being cut from 1a to 10 days the Us Supreme Court has rejected a bid to overturn the president ial Election Results in four key states. The lawsuit filed by the state of texas and backed by President Trump sought to throw outjoe bidens victories in georgia, michigan, pennsylvania and wisconsin. The Supreme Court ruled that texas had no legal standing to bring the case. World leaders will set out their plans for cutting Greenhouse Gas emissions at a Virtual Summit today which is being co hosted by the uk. pres ahead of the meeting which takes place on the fifth ahead of the meeting which takes place on the fifth anniversary of the paris climate agreement the uk government announced it would cut taxpayer funding for fossil fuel projects abroad. Our chief environment correspondent, Justin Rowlatt, has more. There were celebrations on a global deal on climate was finally done in paris five years ago today full up for the first time, the whole world agreed that all nations need to play their part in keeping Climate Change toi. 5 their part in keeping Climate Change to 1. 5 celsius. The only problem was the commitment made in paris were not enough to do the job. In fact, until this year, emissions have been steadily rising. The woman who helped secure the paris steel said action is urgent. Science has been telling us that we are running out of time for a long time but now its really dangerous. In paris, World Leaders agreed to get together every five years to try to up their game, raising the tablets for cutting emissions. That was to have happened in glasgow earlier this year, it was agreed. Thanks to the pandemic, that has been put off. But a Virtual Meeting will happen today. With borisjohnson chairing meeting will happen today. With Boris Johnson chairing it. Meeting will happen today. With borisjohnson chairing it. The future of our planet is state while both targets will be brought to the table. That will make a really cute global deal cutting emissions much more likely. The duke and duchess of cambridge have had their first red carpet engagement with all three of their children. They took prince george, Princess Charlotte and prince louis to the london palladium theatre to watch a special pantomime. And as you can see, the children were rather taken by the elves who were ready to welcome them. The show was put on as a thank you to key workers and their families. It starred julian clary and elaine paige. The duke also gave a speech paying tribute to Dame Barbara Windsor, whose death was confirmed yesterday. It will be a real lift to the theatre industry to see, not least, just a show and people going, and thatis just a show and people going, and that is replicated with a number of pantomimes happening in people getting into theatre under restrictions. It is happening. The time now isjust restrictions. It is happening. The time now is just coming restrictions. It is happening. The time now isjust coming up to 11 minutes past eight. If youre one of the millions of people waiting to see a relative in a Residential Care home, this is the sort of moment youll probably be looking forward to. A proper hug, Holding Hands and a face to face chat made possible after the visitor is given a rapid test for covid 19. Thats whats happening here and thats what the government promised to roll out in time for christmas. However, the charity age uk says that wont happen unless the government makes faster progress in getting rapid test kits out to more care homes. Were joined now by the charitys director, caroline abrahams, and mike padgham who runs four care homes in north yorkshire. Very good morning to both of you. Mike, can we start with you and your experience in running care homes . And people yet going to have contact with their loved ones . We are not yet doing visiting indoors, no, i regret that. We havent had everyone tested yet, some have gone yesterday but youre waiting for the majority of our staff and residents to be able to get the test delivered, so the short answer is no andy we then a trainee course to put it in. We wa nted a trainee course to put it in. We wanted up and running as soon as possible time is running out because christmas is a short time away. can detect the disappointment in your voice that you cannot do it sooner. Your voice that you cannot do it sooner. This will clearly have a big impact on both the residents and families as well. Yes, and our residents have become extremely patient. I just ask them to residents have become extremely patient. Ijust ask them to be patient. Ijust ask them to be patient a bit longer because many havent got the tests yet. We then havent got the tests yet. We then have to be patient in doing it because the visiting is the most important thing but its a laborious exercise with each test taking a5 minutes one hour to do so if we just take our own homes, we might ta ke just take our own homes, we might take 220 tests per week and we have to make sure we have a separate room to make sure we have a separate room to do all that. Its quite a task, we are learning as we go along eve ryo ne we are learning as we go along everyone is relatively united we are learning as we go along everyone is relatively united i am interested from first hand experience, cast your mind ahead, christmas around the corner. The dreamers people will see their loved ones face to face with some kind of contact but is that realistic for you given what youve described . fear the report is very stark. Some people will be disappointed, even if we start today and i did 20 visits today, i would not get to everyone by christmas, so we will have the biggest task in the middle trying to determine who will see people before christmas, during, and after. We will reunite people as best we can, we are working harder than that, but we are working harder than that, but we are working harder than that, but we are putting someone in post to coordinate all the visitors because we do not want a tsunami of visitors on the doorstop in one go. We have a lot of work to do but getting businesses together is our key aim. What your charity is calling for a central and local government to come together and get this done, get it done quickly. What is the response youve had in terms of making sure this does happen, at least for some, before Christmas Rose the problem is not all care homes quite as keen as getting visiting going as mike. Some of the big chains are more risk averse, partly because they have insurers breathing down their necks. We have heard some people say, why dont we wait till the vaccine comes . Because it will be here soon and that is another really lengthy delay, and our reportjust found a degree of heartbreak and suffering that was horrible to read about, and they cant imagine how some of these people are feeling, as they really do need to be reunited as quickly as possible. There is the balance to be made between safety, health and maintaining life, and ijust wonder how easy it is to offset the risks and understandable caution by some of these care homes. Its a very difficult balancing act and its been a horrible site for care home managers who the vast majority of whom have done the utmost to get the balance right and are really worried about it. The thing with the new tests, the natural flow tests, they tilt the balance towards that and the government has said things should be happening whenever the tests are out wherever they are out. If they do not have the tests, of course they can do much but it is important to note some managed to keep visiting going throughout the pandemic without those tests. They did itand pandemic without those tests. They did it and care homes are not all built for that, and its a lot of ha rd built for that, and its a lot of hard work but it can be done, so we are pleading with everybody to get these done as quickly as possible. We are talking about the effectiveness. As a caution around that because of the levels of a ccu ra cy that because of the levels of accuracy or inaccuracy . You might guess, there is. People have heard things and they are not sure whether visiting is safe or not but it is another tool in the box. Its never another tool in the box. Its never a guarantee, any of these test, and what homes have to do, as im sure mike is working really hard to do it is to make sure all those are well ventilated. In the tests are just another tool in the box, but as long as we can get this going as quick as we can, thats what youre asking for at age uk because it would mean the to hundreds of thousands of people and the relatives. Mike, if you can pick up on the personal stuff. That tightrope of trying to do everything right and keeping your residents safe, you will know better than anyone else that loneliness and being separated from your loved ones can bea being separated from your loved ones can be a killer and its own right in terms of how someone is feeling. The impact of that is a very real thing. Why track it is and that is why im keen to get it going as soon as possible because there is a risk from the faith visiting but also a risk from not having the visiting, so we are walking a tightrope and i wa nt to so we are walking a tightrope and i want to make sure it happens, and we have to get it done for the residents and relatives but sometimes things go against us and many homes have started but the mass majority havent. They are worried because some relatives are worried about visitors coming in to the home and bringing a virus with them. Because we dont have the test yet, i think the government has jumped the gun is telling people it will not happen. In terms of managing the care, the staff, weve heard about how patients are feeling and that is understandable. How are your staff . They are under tremendous strain. Theyve only just they are under tremendous strain. Theyve onlyjust recovered from the first wave, into the second now. There is going to be a lot of social mixing at christmas and they are deeply worried about the virus coming in, so they are caught in the middle but we have to break it you relatives that perhaps you cannot make the visit as quickly as you would like. We will do everything we can to do it straightaway but even with the lateral flow test, we will still be at a distance and have separate entrances and exits, have ppe and local authorities have been very good to us but they still say no physical contact so its not com pletely no physical contact so its not completely as good as you would like but we hope we can get face to face visit soon. Why track we appreciate your visit. Thank you for your time, both of you. We will follow the story with interest as the weeks and old. The department of health and social care say millions of free tests and ppe have been sent to care homes and theyre continuing to work with the sector. Heres the mornings weather. Looking good. Not dry everywhere but wet and windy weather sweeping in from the atlantic. Turning milder. This is the although that has been hanging around. The ridge of High Pressure ridge princess disingenuous in areas in the loo behind the wet and windy weather, so starting right across Northern Ireland in the sunshine pushing into itself requesting parts of scotland. Then pushing in and getting pretty great across the north and east. It will then gradually ease down with temperatures on the chilly side, 910 temperatures on the chilly side, 9 10 for the sunshine and wind generally light. Skies across the west transferring towards the north and east of the country, so petering out with them to the west, low pressure out with them to the west, low pressure sweeps in. 7 9 c with something chillierfurther low pressure sweeps in. 7 9 c with something chillier further east under the clear skies, so this area of low pressure means it will sweep across the country with a lot of isobars and being windy for all. Could be dry across the east for a while but then the rain sweeps in. Across eastern ground as the rain bumps into the cold, certainly across the south with gusts in excess of a0 mph. Temperatures start to creep up on sunday despite the wind and rain, seeing highs of 1113 c, still wind and rain, seeing highs of 11 13 c, still chilly for the north and east of scotland and the east of england. Pushing northwards as we head on into monday with the orange colours across the Northern Isles and it will be another windy day to start the new working week, with a lot of isobars in the pressure chart so gales across southern and Western Areas, outbreaks of rain. With some places staying dry all day but it will be mild with double figure values for most and even double figures into scotland. For the upcoming week, remaining unsettled with low pressure always nearby, tending to be windy with more rain and gales on wednesday, but you will see temperatures in double figures and cries a change to what weve been used to since the 1st of december, being on the chilly side. Thank you very much, the time now is a22 thank you very much, the time now is a 22 am. Thank you very much, the time now is a 22 am. Eight 22 thank you very much, the time now is a 22 am. Eight 22 am. Lets return now to a story weve covered closely here on breakfast the wrongful convictions of hundreds of innocent sub postmasters, some of whom were jailed. They were accused of stealing money from the post Office Branches they ran but the blame lay entirely with a faulty it system. But the blame lay entirely with yesterday, six people became the first to have their convictions quashed by the high court. Nina has been following the story. He is later, judge conclude they wa nt to he is later, judge conclude they want to blame. 20 years ago, the post office introduced a Computer System called horizon. Very quickly, so postmasters could see problems, big shortfalls but the post office stood by their system and began prosecuting their staff. But then, in december last year. Hundreds of former sub postmaster is accused of stealing from the post office say theyve been vindicated following a High Court Ruling that the computed a Computer System they had to do was flawed. A high courtjudge found significant defect in the system likely to have because the shortfalls. The post office has admitted it made mistakes but said it has learned lessons and agree to a £58 million settlement they much of it will go on legal fees. One of those was the former sub postmaster one of those to see their names cleared yesterday was former sub postmaster vipinchandra patel, who joins us now from oxford. Thank you for talking to us. How are you feeling . Fine, thank you. Its slowly sinking in. Im very happy. I feel exhilarated, lively, slowly sinking in. Im very happy. I feel exhila rated, lively, and slowly sinking in. Im very happy. I feel exhilarated, lively, and then a good mood, so yeah im feeling better. All great to hear. Sorry to interrupt, ijust better. All great to hear. Sorry to interrupt, i just thought we should start, i suppose, interrupt, i just thought we should start, isuppose, by finding interrupt, i just thought we should start, i suppose, by finding out how long youve been going through this and when it all started for new. Ten yea rs and when it all started for new. Ten years ago, on the 9th of december, i was suspended from the post office and on the 8th of decemberjust gone, a strange coincidence, ten yea rs have gone, a strange coincidence, ten years have been very difficult after i was suspended. These post office was closed and there was a lot of gossip, people are judgmental, was closed and there was a lot of gossip, people arejudgmental, and people were not coming to the shop, we lost is not in trade, life had become difficult, survival was an issue, i was criminalised with finance so we use the savings to keep the shop going. We ran up a lot of anxiety and stress, feeling suicidal, stopped everything for nearly two or three years and then slowly started to perk up. I am disabled completely now and is not a good state of affairs but the fact weve been exonerated, im feeling lively and helpful like healthy, thirsty full family and my son was my girlfriend asked him yesterday how he feels and he said he feels like subconsciously, in the back of his mind, it has affected him as well. Obviously, and its a story that many will be appalled by that you had to go through this. You alluded to it there, as many sub postmaster is, you had a business attached to the post office that you are running, and the community would have heard you are a fraudster and it would have affected your standing as well. Surely. For once, i was a pillar of the community and then suddenly i became a pariah, not everybody in the community looked at it that way. We had people who supported us as well but also them initially thought that i was but also them initially thought that iwasa but also them initially thought that i was a fraudster and a thief, and it affected business and everything quite badly, so it had become difficult to the first few years and slowly started to perk up. You were handed an 18 week prison sentence, you pled guilty to fraud in 2011 and youre accused of stealing the jointly ok should part of has obviously racked up the costs, and the post office has said, agreed to pay £58 million in damages. Our analysis and seen thatjust looking at that pay out, it could be in the tens of thousands and even higher for the worst affected so that wouldnt necessarily cover what youve gone through. Are you now looking for any more compensation because, for the last ten years, your life has been turned upside down . Well, i think we have a case against the post office for malicious code prosecution butjf sa helen bates who started this, we went to the parliamentary numbers about the whole issue and the parliamentary ombudsman at some point will be looking at the postmasters. We hope you would. Why track we should say the post office has said his wish is to ensure all postmasters are entitled to claims of civil compensation because of their convictions being overturned are recompensed as quickly as possible and it is considering the best process for doing that. Tell me, what next for you . Youre obviously enjoying this moment, this vindication, but what next for you . Im getting old now, so i dont know what i can do from here on. If i can think of things to do and improve, and do things good, i certainly will, but its too early to make a judgment on this particular issue of what i am doing, but it feels good and we are happy that this ordeal is behind us now, and i hope it happens to all the postmasters affected because there are still 900 more convictions to look at and there was another 2000 postmasters in the pipeline, so it is huge for the government to sort out and i hope they do it swiftly, and as soon as possible because it is not a good idea to put things on hold. possible because it is not a good idea to put things on hold. I can see the relief in your voice and the relief and use palpable, thank you for talking to us. 8 30am. We will be speaking to von gethin, the Health Ministerfor be speaking to von gethin, the Health Minister for wales be speaking to von gethin, the Health Ministerfor wales injust a moment. The headlines are coming up. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Good morning to you. Just after 8 30am. Wales first minister has warned the country could go into another lockdown after christmas if coronavirus cases do not fall. Mark drakeford said the situation was very serious, with new covid 19 infections rising faster than predicted. Lets look at the figures. The week before wales 17 day firebreak lockdown ended on the 9th of november, there were 206 positive cases per 100,000 people. A month later, that figure has almost doubled to more than a00 cases per 100,000 people. Lets speak to vaughan gething, the welsh Health Ministerjoining us from penarth. Thank you for your time. How concerned are you about the growth of the virus in wales . Obviously it is incredibly serious andi obviously it is incredibly serious and i am as certain now as i have been at any point including during march and april we are seeing a rising tide of infections. Despite the improvements we have made and our understanding of coronavirus, improvements in keeping people alive, that will translate into real harm. We had yesterday over 1900 people in nhs hospital beds, 500 more than in the first peak being treated with coronavirus, and it will mean we will see more people dying over the coming days and weeks. We have taken extraordinary steps in the last few days, so we have moved all of our secondary schools for distanced learning for the last week of term, closed Outdoor Attractions and ive given permission for Health Boards in wales to start reducing and stopping nonessential treatment. We need to do that to make sure our service is not overwhelmed. The spread of the virus is such that it will have a real impact on front line services, not just from the real impact on front line services, notjust from the demand from within but the number of health and social ca re but the number of health and social care workers will need to isolate. The view the government has taken in the last few days, its for all of us to take our part because the government cannot beat this on its own. All of the people who are doing the right things, keep doing that, and everybody else needs to think again about how many people they are seeing, what contact they are having, and think about how you can reduce your contact to protect yourselves and each other. Many people will be listening carefully to what you and Mark Drakeford have said in the past in relation to peoples individual responsibilities. The implication of what you describe now has an incredibly serious situation since the relaxation on november the 9th, it is impossible to avoid the implication that people, the people who mark dra keford implication that people, the people who Mark Drakeford has always said he trusts, that he trusts to do the right thing, are not doing the right thing. Are you getting to the point where that is what you are saying . Because something in this mix is not working. The overwhelming majority of people are doing the right thing. Regular surveys from Public Health wales and indeed Welsh Government shows most people understand the rules and are doing the right thing. But not enough of us are and that is inescapable. Thats the reason the virus is spreading again so rapidly. After the firebreak we saw cases continue to fall for a period of time, now they are increasing significantly. Thats why we have taken the extraordinary steps we have done. Its also why the first minister yesterday set out that u nless we minister yesterday set out that unless we see a significant reduction in the coming days, then we will enter the post Christmas Period in level four, in a lockdown position, where we go on to describe the restrictions in detail. We want to have a conversation with the people of wales so more of us can do what we should do to help reduce the spread of the virus, but if we dont see that then we need to act yet again. Every intervention the government makes in closing down activities, making new rules for people to try to get around, rather than people understanding what we can do, and each one of those significant intrusions comes with consequences. It will cause harm in the future, and i know that, in making that choice is causing harm in the future but im avoiding much greater hand out, and those are the choices we are faced with. On the notion of what lies ahead, and often this argument is polarised around christmas and the agreement between the four nations about relaxing restrictions around christmas for those five days. I would just like you to listen if you would. Linda bauld was asked by us about the consequences of the five day break for christmas, and specific to wales as well. Have a listen. A Public Health perspective, i have to be perfectly honest, i think this is a mistake. I really do. And i think even though were permitted to do this, i think people have to think very carefully whether they can see loved ones outside or do it in a very, very modest way. Im also concerned about the travel people going from high to low prevalence areas. So in theory, theres nothing to stop them rolling back on that and saying we should have changed our mind we advise that you dont do it. But the problem is theyve made that commitment to people across the uk and that may affect trust in government if they roll back. I wondered if you could reflect on that, and given what you said a moment ago about what you know, and are fully expecting, about the pressures that will lie ahead because of the rise in cases around christmas and beyond that time. As Welsh Government, could you if you wa nted Welsh Government, could you if you wanted to go against the four nation roll and change what you are planning for christmas . Could you do that . Of course we could, but as your previous contributor said, there are huge issues about trust in there are huge issues about trust in the government. Im not sure we have done during the course of the pandemic because people have trust in the government. When we said things, we kept our word. If we were to change the rules we would upset the large number of people who have stuck with us and see a large number of people who would be prepared to ignore the rules and have a much wider group of people to see them anyway. Im afraid even with the agreement in place, we are likely to see a number of people go beyond that anyway. Thats why we are anticipating an increase after christmas, and after new years eve as well. Can i be absolutely clear. How many people do the right thing is what matters. So you undoubtedly will be watching very carefully this week, next week and the week before christmas, we are very close. If you carry on seeing the rises you are seeing now, will you do nothing about that Christmas Period . Are you still prepared to stand back and say that for political reasons we wont do anything . Are you prepared as a Health Minister to watch the figures rise and stick to what you previously decided . rise and stick to what you previously decided . I always said whenever i have been asked an absolute question at any point in the pandemic, ive always said you cant say never because the virus may change significantly, we have seen may change significantly, we have seen it rise rapidly, but the agreement around the Christmas Period is because we understand we will see many people making up their own rules with the potential for greater harm. So it isnt as simple as saying its a Political Choice and we could make it safer. Theres and we could make it safer. Theres a lot of people who spend a lot of time and energy and effort in christmas, travelling around the uk to see family when they dont do that the rest of the year. We have to ta ke that the rest of the year. We have to take account of the reality of the position as well as what we would like to happen, how we want people to behave. Your previous contributor did set out that this isnt about saying to people go ahead and do the maximum within the rules, its about saying what you should do. Do you really need to, should do. Do you really need to, should you really see three different households together indoors over this period . Can you see fewer people . Can you see people for a shorter period of time . That could reduce the spread of the virus, reduce the numbers of people in hospitals and reduce the number of people who make the journey into the future. Because the pandemic will end, but we dont want to leave people behind unnecessarily. I know people behind unnecessarily. I know people who have lost loved ones, i know what it feels to lose someone, andi know what it feels to lose someone, and i dont want more families to go through that. Thats why we have already acted to intrude into peoples lives and may need to act again. We ask again people across wales, the Welsh Government cannot do this on their own. We need your help to beat the virus so think again about what you should do to help keep wales safe. Vaughan gething, thank you for your time this morning. That is vaughan gething, the Health Ministerfor wales. There is a huge fight tonight, holly . Yes, there is a lot at stake for Anthony Joshua. Hell put his three world heavyweight titles on the line tonight when he takes on kubrat pulev. Theres a lot riding on this fight at wembley arena, a win forjoshua could pave the way for an all british bout with tyson fury, where all four world heavyweight titles would be up for grabs for the first time in history. But do bear in mind, there is also a big incentive tonight for kubrat pulev who could become the first heavyweight bulgarian champion. Theres four games in the premier league today, including the Manchester Derby at 5 30. Dans back with football focus at midday on bbc one. And the gloves will be off at old trafford tonight . Yes, sixth again seventh in the premier league, this one. We have a packed football focus for you today including kevin obrien talking about that match and also the fact Manchester United went out of the champions leave. Kevin de bruyne. We will also hear from dion dublin. Spurs and liverpool, the one and two teams in the premier league at the moment, they both play tomorrow. And we have an exclusive interview with jen beattie who plays for arsenal and is a Scottish International as well, and she is talking about the fact that she currently has breast cancer. Its the first time she has spoken about this. She has three sessions of radiotherapy this week. The doctors said it is still good for her to play for her physical health. She not been able to see her family, most of whom are in scotland, so shes been relying on the help and support from her team mates at arsenal, and she has been talking to us. When you hear the word cancer and it is someone talking to you, telling you it is happening to you, can you remember what your thought process was when you heard that . To be honest, it kind of does seem like a massive blow. Every appointment after that i was grateful because they allowed my clu b was grateful because they allowed my club doctor to be in there with me to ask the medical questions, because i didnt have a clue. You automatically think the worst. I asked the question, am i going to die . Your family live in glasgow, they couldnt come and see you at they couldnt come and see you at the time i dont think, could they, because of the restrictions. How do you deal with Something Like that on your own at that time . you deal with Something Like that on your own at that time . I will get upset because. The girls here were just unbelievable. Like, i cant even. I feel like just unbelievable. Like, i cant even. Ifeel like its just unbelievable. Like, i cant even. I feel like its times like these we realise why you sort of play sport, and it really is like being part of the family away from family. I dont know what i would have done without them, and that the staff and players. They have all been unbelievable. The support i have had down here hasjust got me through it for sure. So plenty more from jen beattie, a really emotional interview. We also have Zlatan Ibrahimovic on the programme, we will pay tribute to paolo rossi who sadly died this week, and the Wycombe Wanderers boss who has released a single for a dimension charity called drawing stars. The reason why its called that, father christmas has nine reindeer including rudolf, but what if the rule of six applied and he could only choose six . We also have dion dublin and martin keown in the studio. That would be ok because they are in a christmas bubble back later and we have steve bunce talking about the big fight tonight. Thank you, holly. If youre hoping to get out and about this weekend, heres stav with the weather. Its been pretty cold and quiet since the 1st of december, but into tomorrow and onwards it turns wet and windy and milder as well. Today we start to see that transition, although many areas will see quite a bit of sunshine, out west that is anyway. Sunshine starting to creep into wales and South West England, bar the odd shower, then into western scotland as well in the afternoon period. Staying grey across the North Eastern side of the country, but not as west across the north east of scotland as we have seen over north east of scotland as we have seen over the last 2a hours. Still on the cool side further east but in the sunshine out west we could see 10 celsius. This evening and overnight the clearer skies in the west start to transfer towards the east because out west this area of low pressure sweeps in which will bring the first change of our weather which we have had since the beginning of december. So wet and windy here with overnight lows creeping up. Seven to 9 degrees, quite chilly further east. On sunday this low pressure system takes over. It could start off dry and bright across the far east, but it wont last long. The rain spreads in and we could see transient snow in the high areas of scotland. It will be windy for all, particularly around southern and western coasts, especially around the irish sea. Those temperatures ranging from around nine to 13 degrees across the south west of the country. Turning milderfor south west of the country. Turning milder for all south west of the country. Turning milderfor all into south west of the country. Turning milder for all into monday. Thanks so much, we will see you later. From a schoolboy Skiffle Group to becoming the undisputed kings of disco, the bee gees enjoyed phenomenal global success but those famous smiles were often hiding dark and difficult times. The sibling rivalry, drug abuse and tragedy which dogged the band are all explored in a new feature length documentary. Our entertainment correspondent Colin Paterson has been speaking to the only surviving brother, sir barry gibb. This film contains flashing images. Ladies and gentlemen, will you welcome the bee gees . The bee gees once again, the fabulous bee gees oh, you can tell by the way i use my walk. The most exciting sound in the world the biggest grossing album in the history of music. You know im all right. Its ok. How can you mend a broken heart looks at every aspect of the bee gees career, including theirfirst number one in 1967. And the lights all went down in massachusetts. And the phenomenon that was saturday night fever. Has it changed your lives, the enormous success of it . Yes, i can safely say its changed our lives. Whether youre a brother or whether youre a mother, youre stayin alive. Stayin alive in 1978, seven us number one singles were written by the bee gees. Ah, ah, ah, ah, stayin alive speaking from his home studio in miami, the surviving bee Gee Barry Gibb tried to explain what it was like to have that level of fame. All right. Well, you dont really deal with it. Its just like you are in the eye of a storm, youre in the middle of something where everyone around you is crazy. Ah, ah, ah, ah. It got to the point where i could not answer the phone. And it got to the point where people were climbing over the walls and coming in to your grounds actually, that still happens chuckles whos been in your back garden lately, then . Well, i dont know, but there are people that walk in. Our house on the bay is probably the best position on the bay, you know, so you get unusual people with lots of money that will say we will buy your house. No, its not for sale fame may have given barry a rather nice house but the documentary also deals with the lows. I cant honestly come to terms with the fact that they are not here anymore. Ah, ijust want to be. His three younger brothers are all dead. Andy, a solo star, was only 30 when his lifestyle took its toll. And barry had famously fallen out with both maurice and robin at the times of their deaths. All had struggled with life in the limelight. Why do you think you were the best equipped to deal with this . We all had our demons. We all had our issues between each other. But when it came to music, all those things just disappeared. I dont know maybe being the eldest brother made me feel that i had responsibility to watch out for my other three brothers. Be nice if we could find a bigger sound for that solo. But these days, ive come to realise that they probably didnt want that, you know . And i think maurice and robin primarily did not want that. Andy, in the end, i think felt i was getting credit for what he was doing. And thats what messes you up thats what messes everybody up, this obsession with credit and i think in every group, youre going to see that. When you have brothers singing, its like an instrument no one else can buy. Famous fans appear in the film declaring their love of the bee gees. Their voices are so sick, theyre like, no, were going to sing it. They were in the first global wave of pop superstardom. But it also focuses on the disco backlash in 1979. Its a word and i dont understand how it became more than a word. So at the start of the 19805 they started writing for other people. Islands in the stream. Islands in the stream. Why do you have to be a heartbreaker . In heartbreaker . In the middle of a chain reaction. Listen, i could not be happier the music has survived. And by the 1990s it felt like every pop act had to do their bee gees cover. How deep is your love, how deep is your love tragedy, when the feelings gone and you cant go on, tragedy its only words and words are all i have to take your heart away. I would say boyzone is probably my favourite version of our songs. You mentioned the songs, we have learned this week bob dylan sold his back catalogue of songs for what is said to be 300 million to universal. What do you make of that . Theres a lot of philosophy that will fly around because of that. There might come a time in your life when your own music you dont really listen to. You want to survive into your old age and be very comfortable, and you want your family to be co mforta ble. You want your family to be comfortable. You dont want to be short of money if thats the case. And really, im sure mr dylan has come to that conclusion over the yea rs. Come to that conclusion over the years. I think hes probably a few yea rs years. I think hes probably a few years older than i am. Would you follow suit . Would you consider selling your back catalogue of songs . May be in a couple of years but im not ready to give up on making records and writing songs. In a few years may be. The closer i get to 80 ivejust got to 80 ive just got to get the message to you. In fact to you. Infact in to you. In fact injanuary he will release a new album, green fields. Dolly pa rton new album, green fields. Dolly parton stood in the same spot singing, and she told me this is where i stood when i recorded i will always love you and jolene in the same afternoon, and im standing on the same spot. That is exhilarating. Night fever, night fever. Also on its way following on from the success of rocket man and bohemian rhapsody, the bee gees film with Stephen Spielberg on board. Where are we out with that . Everyone is in place, its down to finding the right screenplay writer. This could be a couple of years away. Bradley cooper was talked about for playing you, would you be happy with that . I dont think bradley has considered anything like that. Would you like to play you . Who would you like to play you . Who would you like to play you . I have never thought about that but if im involved enough with the writer, i think i can really bring out and depict my brothers personality is better than anyone else. If there is one project on which barry wont be embarking. You have never had a christmas standard. Where is the bee gees Christmas Song . We have always avoided it. It was appropriate may be 50 years ago, these days its too much of a marketing trick. Saturday night fever, yes. Festive fever, no. The bee gees how can you mend a broken heart is on Sky Documentaries this sunday at 9pm and will be available on dvd and digital download from monday. We can talk to Bruno Brookes now, a bigwig in the music industry. It was so bigwig in the music industry. It was so interesting hearing the bee gees saying they didnt think a Christmas Song was for them but can you imagine what it would have been like . If the bee gees had had a Christmas Song . Yes. Incredible. Im very surprised they didnt do it because you can almost guarantee it would have been one of the best in the world forjust amazing songwriters. But quite interesting he didnt want to go down that route because he thought it was too commercial. I still think he could have done it, they could have done it. Everything they touched turned to gold in my opinion. What we are talking to you about today is mariah ca reys talking to you about today is Mariah Careys song, all i want for christmas. It has just topped the uk charts for the first time ever. Thats right, it has been around for yea rs. Thats right, it has been around for years. Theres always stiff competition in the christmas chart, people get in the spirit, they are all there to challenge, but i think she deserves that number one for christmas now. Shes only got a couple of weeks to go so i think what we need to do is help this song get to number one on the basis its beenin get to number one on the basis its been in and out of the christmas charts for so many years. You agree with that . People will make their own choice. Bruno, its lovely to see you. The thing about Christmas Songsis see you. The thing about Christmas Songs is some people really do have their favourites. It might be slade. Its quite an emotional thing because people link it to a time in their lives as well. It is, and i think thats the reason commentators are saying this could get to number one for christmas. Its a beautiful song. Shes a great singer and deserves it. Is it your favourite, bruno . It has got to be my number one, definitely. It isjust a classic that deserves to be not only a number one, not only are number one many times, but the christmas number one for the first time. dont know if you were presenting at the time because it was originally beaten to number one by stay another day. I dont know if you were presenting on that day, but how did you feel about that because you are either in mariahs camp or east 17s camp. Was i actually presenting on that day . I cant remember to be honest. Sorry, i didnt quite get the last bit. I wondered which camp you would be in because mariah ca reys you would be in because Mariah Careys song is uplifting and its played everywhere but it was pipped to the post by east 17. In 1994. Yes. East 17 were enormous, probably the biggest boy band at that time, and the christmas video was quite incredible. And very memorable, so its one of those things. Its a great shame but at christmas there isa great shame but at christmas there is a lot of competition. Lovely to catch up with you this morning. Thank you very much. Who knows, will it make it right through the Christmas Period . It make it right through the Christmas Period . We it make it right through the Christmas Period . We will see, wont we . Have you got a favourite . For me, ithink we . Have you got a favourite . For me, i think it is er. The slade song. Sorry, iwent me, i think it is er. The slade song. Sorry, i went blank there. Whats it called . Merry Christmas Everyone . No, not that one. Someone was singing in my ear then, it was horrible. Fairytale of new york. Always works. We have the headlines coming up. Good morning welcome to breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Our headlines today. One day left to secure a trade deal. Talks will resume in brussels with both sides warning theyre unlikely to reach a post Brexit Agreement by tomorrows deadline. Us drug regulators approve the Pfizer Covid Vaccine almost 300,000 americans have died with the virus. We have already begun shipping the vaccine to every state and zip code in the country. The first vaccine will be available in less than 2a hour. From today, travellers returning to the uk from the Canary Islands must self isolate some fear they wont get back in time to avoid christmas in quarantine. Its all on the line for anthonyjoshua. He makes his much anticipated return to the ring tonight to defend his heavyweight titles against kubrat pulev. Well hear from the oldest person ever to attempt to row solo across the atlantic ocean. Good morning to you. Looks like today will be the better day of the weekend. Looks like real seasons and join around particularly across Western Areas for tomorrow, low pressure will sweep in. Ill have all the details of it later on. Good morning. Its saturday the 12th of december. In downing street yesterday, the Prime Minister chaired what has been described as a stock take on the uks readiness to end its relationship with the eu without a trade deal. Visiting a manufacturing plant in northumberland, he said while its not the outcome he had wanted, britain would be prepared. Its looking, you know, very, very likely that we will have to go for a solution that i think would be, you know, wonderful for the uk. Wed be able to do what we want from january the first. Obviously, it will be different from what we had set out to achieve but ive no doubt that this country can get ready and, as i say, come out on world trade terms. This is not to say that we would require the uk to follow us every time we decide to raise the level of ambition for example, in the environmental field. They would remain free sovereign, if you wish to decide what they want to do. Theres no escaping it, we spoke about deadlines before but tomorrow, sunday, is a really significant moment, potentially the end of the tour. Yes, as you said, we have had deadlines, and deadlines go but this one feels more of a deadline than most, and that is partlyjust because truly they are running out of time, the transition period ends on the 31st of december, not many days away now. Both sides are made clear they believe that tomorrow night as he point very decision has to be made or not. There is the possibility that they might think we might get there and they might a few more days but tomorrow is the decision pointed at the moment doesnt sound hugely was at your young prop lee with if anything both sides sharpening your positions. The uk saying they are preparing for a new deal, saying they are prepared to go it alone. Eu leaders saying we will not talk to borisjohnson individually, sending out the message that they are united in Standing Firm so publicly it doesnt look like theres been any sort of meeting of minds but what really matters is what is happening behind the doors of the negotiating room and there are very few people who know that. The us food and Drug Administration has authorised the Pfizer Biontech Coronavirus Vaccine. The agency had come under intense pressure from the Trump Administration to give it the green light and President Trump said the first jabs will take place in less than 2a hours. Our washington correspondent nomia iqbal has more. We want our senior citizens, Health Care Workers and First Responders to be first in line. With december temperatures in the low twenties with december temperatures in the low 205, life is still a beach on the Canary Islands. Elsewhere in england, 67 local authorities which are under the highest tier 3 rules have been given the green light from the government to offer rapid result testing programmes to help them cut transmission rates. Lets talk more about this. lets talk more about this. I want to talk about the effectiveness of this plan to get into 67 regions, these lateral flow tests. How effective will they be considering there are concerns about accuracy . It is hard to know how effective they will be because we dont have the four zero from liverpool yet but one of my Major Concerns is in low hole, u pta ke Major Concerns is in low hole, uptake was very poor and marginalised communities and loosing this consistently even in terms of the test trace isolate system and the test trace isolate system and the low compliance isolation system. There is no point in scaling up as people dont feel the financially secure people dont feel the financially secure to isolate. We know the support we have for isolation as the lewis in the countries and unless we do something about that, there is no point in scaling up. What with the evidence being for the measures to be put in place effectively . I think two things, there has to be a lot more financial support, so the highest rate of six pay support, so the highest rate of six pay support, so the highest rate of six pay sick pay. In addition, work to be reviewed though truth and transparency around the test. We know they are not 100 accurate but that needs to be communicated to people so they know a negative test doesnt mean they are infected. Wouldnt that just mean, doesnt mean they are infected. Wouldnt thatjust mean, if people did think that and they were under the impression, they wouldnt bother taking the test . I think most countries that are planning to use these tests dont do single tests. There is less utility and doing a single test across the population and more in doing repeated tests in high risk environments like care homes and Health Care Workers. Sage has suggested that would be far more useful and when you do repeated tests, you re useful and when you do repeated tests, youre likely to pick up people are infectious, so that is another problem with the way it has been ruled out. Good morning. Often when we talk on a saturday morning, its time to talk about issues going on in the week. I want to draw your attention to what we do, politicians, do. We know there is a variety now with wales shutting secondary schools with all teaching done from home, so they are shutting the secondary schools, but we know certain parts of london and kent will be testing. What do you think about children passing the virus on in relation to that and a policy to try and help . Primary School Children appear to be much less likely those to get the virus and to pass it on, however secondary schoolchildren do appear to be capable of being severely unwell. They do pass it on, so with Primary Schoolchildren, they tend to get it from theirfamilies schoolchildren, they tend to get it from their families and take it with them from their school. The problem is they suffer so much. We heard calling talk about marginalised populations. We know in terms of deprivation, children from deprived areas and marginalised communities areas and marginalised communities are far more likely to suffer if schools are closed, so its so important we do, lavery possibly can, try to keep schools open. Now, having said that, if we do natural flow testing, i know there are limits, the natural flow tests we thought wed pick up 70 of people infected and 90 of people who are infectious, and there is a difference. People with a low viral load, you can have the infection but youre not necessarily passing onto others, whereas if you are infectious, you might. We think the figure might be lower but it will still pick up the majority of children who are infectious and who could infect others, therefore if we can pick those up really quickly and reduce the spread, get them home, get them self isolating, it will be the Christmas Holidays and that is another concern for me because i am very worried about teenagers in particular spreading the virus. Can you pick up the thoughts we had this morning on the Health Ministerfrom wales, we know the situation described by their own politicians as incredibly serious, and that is about the growth rate currently, and im looking at the figures here. The art number. People know about this now, reaching 1. 27. That is across wales, higher in some places even than that. What lessons are relearning about having a lockdown and seeing this, having a two week period before that ends up in hospitals. It really is quite alarming. It is very alarming. If you look across the ons which just came out in the last 20 four hours shows across the whole uk, the number is lower, it is 0. 8 21 and anything under that means it should go down but the figure is up to the end of the english lockdown because there is a lag of one week, and is gotten figures seem to be stable, going down in Northern Ireland, going down in Northern Ireland, going down in england apart from london and the east of england where there are worrying signs of it going up there are worrying signs of it going up and, as you so rightly say in wales, where the lockdown restrictions are they are, they have opened up again and we are seeing them open up. We started in wales as we do in london with younger people on the whole getting at but when what that then translates to in two or three weeks is all the people catching it a couple of weeks after that, more people in hospital and a couple of weeks after that, more deaths. I want to pick up on the issue around schools and Online Learning now. What is your view in terms of the research . Households are said to be a contributor but it is still not clear how they are translated. How can that be prevented . Translated. How can that be prevented . Is translated. How can that be prevented . Is it translated. How can that be prevented . Is it about keeping them at home . Its good to see them at home and Children Play an Important Role, and i will disagree where it is just secondary schoolchildren but also Primary Schoolchildren. The evidence is stronger in secondary schoolchildren but the fact they have acknowledged this, it is concerning that we go straight to School Closures without effectively trying to mitigate transmission or minimise risk within schools in line with what many other countries have done and what has been recommended repeatedly. There was the bubble system put in, your groups and classes a ny system put in, your groups and classes any bubble. There is no cap to the bubble at the moment. What we hear from many parents and teachers. That is not really a bubble, its just living in a School Environment in the real world and it doesnt minimise the risk of transmission. Equally, we dont have face coverings in schools like others have implemented, we have no focus on ventilation in schools with germany, for example, having better ventilation including monitoring and ventilation. We have invested in small class sizes, and unless we actually do something about facts and all scientists have asked for their room to remain safely, it is all that they have never done that and instead have gone to School Closures. It really speaks to needing to do that. Pick up again on these warnings. There are lessons for any part of the uk, with the warning that the nhs cannot cope. If, as it turns out that there are more hospital admissions, there are already hospitals cancelling appointments, thatis hospitals cancelling appointments, that is immediate and there is a knock on effect which goes back down the line, you might want to get treatment but people might not get treatment. If it takes over, it is not just people treatment. If it takes over, it is notjust people who are suffering from a to suffer about people with other conditions. Looking across the country, in rural areas, the number of people seeing a consultant fell during the first lockdown but in rural areas, it was 66 compared to 58 and we now have a waiting list of more than a. 5 Million People and all those, 162 thousand have waited longer than one year. That is up 122 times higher than it was a year ago and partly because, in the first lockdown, we basically stopped everything in hospital with a second time round, being very cautious and doctors are pushed very hard to say, you have to keep treating patients with non covert conditions rack non covid conditions. With non covert conditions rack noncovid conditions. Asking you both, very brief answer, isolation period will be reduced from 1a days to ten days from monday. Good idea or not . Not a good idea. Sorry, police say the last bit. There is no Scientific Evidence to support it. The impact for you . It will pick up the majority of people but more people will be missed. I suspect the theory is people will be more likely to comply with ten than for 1a days and im very worried that only one in ten people comply completely if they are asked to isolate because they are asked to isolate because they are a contact and only two in ten people isolate completely if they have a positive test. That, frankly, getting these people to do what they are asked to do, is more important than time. Thank you both for your thoughts this morning. If time is 9 21am. You might want to get outside. Heres stav with a look at the weather. Sunrise in paignton. Blue skies overhead. Thatll be the team across much of the western side, the south and west of the uk thanks to a ridge of High Pressure which is between dashing building from the west, a brief feature because the area of pressure as sundays name on it, this spit a wet and windy weather but some milder air moving up the south with it. Not completely sunny to start the day, certainly three morning, Northern Ireland, wales, South West England seeing the best of the sunshine were sent soon to western scotland and the midlands but eastern scotland saying rather grey today with further sherry bursts of rain, although not as wet across the east of scotland as weve seen across the east of scotland as weve seen for the last 2a hour is. So on the cool size, 10 celsius in sunny spots out west. The ridge of High Pressure m oves spots out west. The ridge of High Pressure moves across the eastern side of the country so under the clear skies, jumpers following further west, they start to rise because we see wet and windy weather sweeping in that area of low pressure and it could be chilly set out across some parts of Eastern England and north east scotland. As we work through the day on sunday, the wet and windy weather sweeps its way forward, starting to briefly fall further east. Soon arriving here and we could see some transient snow ever the Higher Ground the with some rain moving in. Some of it heavy at times across the Western Areas and windy, which weve not had for a while with gusts reaching 30 mph in the over a0 southern and western coast temperatures start to creep up, 11 13 c across the southern parts of the country, still in the chilly side for scotland but the area of low pressure sticks around into the start of next week, bringing you wet and windy day on monday, not raining all the time and also putting the milder airfurther north, right across into scotland and also for northern. The Northern Isles. We start on monday with quite a lot of cloud around across Western Areas, heavy bursts of rain at times, best of the sunshine towards eastern areas with some places escaping the showers and staying dry altogether but another windy one with those temperatures again mild, 10 13 c with double figures across scotland. Moving across the rest of the week, staying and settled convert you how december has been so far, cold unsettled, more unsettled for most of the days with another spell of rain and gales on wednesday with most temperatures remaining in double figures for most so remaining in double figures for most so unsettled but a milder week to come. The discussion began as to whethera pie. Can a pie invented. The discussion began as to whether a pie. Can a pie only have a late . Not santas theyre too busy at this time of year but the so called qi elves who research incredible facts and trivia for the bbc two show. Theyll be here in around 20 minutes. Hello, this is breakfast with Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt. Just after 9 30am. There is a big fight tonight on, holly. Yes, the fight tonight on, holly. Yes, the fight was postponed like Everything Else because of covid but tonight anthonyjoshua against else because of covid but tonight Anthony Joshua against kubrat else because of covid but tonight anthonyjoshua against kubrat pulev, everything on the line here, all three belts which could queue up the fight with tyson fury. A win forjoshua could pave the way for an all british bout with tyson fury, where all four world heavyweight titles could be contested for the first time in history. Boxing analyst steve bunce will be ringside for bbc radio 5 live tonight. Good morning to you, steve. It must be like Christmas Morning for you, is it . It has come a little bit early or a little bit late depending on how you look at it. It was supposed to take place originally in october 2017 in front of 70,000 people down in cardiff, so this has been a very long romance between ajay and kubrat pulev. Finally tonight, hopefully about 1030, we will see them end it. There is so much at stake forjoshua, how do you see him approaching this . He has learned so much since the defeat to ruiz learned so much since the defeat to ruinunior. Do you see him taking risks . You woke up this morning, no problem, had a cup of coffee, did the tv. Everyone does their business, goes out and does their work. Anthonyjoshua business, goes out and does their work. Anthony joshua got business, goes out and does their work. Anthonyjoshua got up this morning, had a look in the mirror and said to himself, if i lose today, i blow 300 million next year. What kind of pressure is that . Its not like fluffing your lines or getting the data wrong on a tennis final. That is the pressure a boxer at that level puts himself under. I cant imagine how he slept, let alone how he eats his conflicts and prepares for tonight. Its not just him, theres a lot of pressure on pulev who is 39 now and looking pretty sharp. How important are the opening rounds . The secret of this fight is pulev going forjoshua in the first couple of rounds. Thats his golden window of opportunity. His chance to earn may be 30 million quid in the ring. Its all about money, and hes got the first three orfour rounds. Money, and hes got the first three or four rounds. Thats when he money, and hes got the first three orfour rounds. Thats when he has to throw absolutely everything at joshua. If he doesnt, he gets his ea rs joshua. If he doesnt, he gets his ears boxed off. Pulev is a big, tough man and i think it will go for it first bell tonight. You are going to be there, but 1000 fans, nothing compared to the 80,000 last time out. We are not used to seeing that ata out. We are not used to seeing that at a fight of this calibre. out. We are not used to seeing that at a fight of this calibre. I dont think weve ever had a world heavyweight title fight in front of so heavyweight title fight in front of so few fans. Thats the first thing, thats the history, that the stats. Im whispering now because ive got two. The 1000 fans will lift the roof on that old empire wembley arena. Because they will be going in there knowing, they will feel like there knowing, they will feel like the chosen. We have been chosen there were 90,000 when he fought klitschko. They are a concentrated mix, and they will sing and shout and scream their hearts out. Oh, to be one of those lucky souls supposing joshua wins tonight and we get the fight against tyson fury, you need the fans back for that. Yes, everyone involved said we can only have that fight take place if we get the fans back. That puts in the kitty Something Like 30 or a0 million which can be split between them. However, ive got a big sneaky feeling that the first of the two fights between joshua feeling that the first of the two fights betweenjoshua and tyson fury, ive got a feeling it will go overseas somewhere fury, ive got a feeling it will go overseas somewhere exotic, and i really m ea n overseas somewhere exotic, and i really mean that. Remember in the 19705 the rumble in the jungle, muhammad ali and George Foreman in the democratic republic of the congo. Then the thriller in manila. I think we will get Something Like that with tyson fury and Anthony Joshua,it that with tyson fury and Anthony Joshua, it could be in the saudi desert, somewhere like that. What a year we have got next year, cannot wait. Very briefly, your predictions for tonight . Joshua wins after six or seven rounds. It might be bloody, it might be ugly but it will be good to watch. Thank you so much for your time, and of course you can listen to radio 5 Live Commentary of the fight from ten oclock tonight. It will be special. Who better to bigot up than big it up than buncey. Are you still there . You are talking about what anthonyjoshua might be saying to himself in the mirror in the morning. This is what i want to know, steve bunce looks at himself in the mirror, do you do that thing where you look in the mirror, im steve bunce . Where you look in the mirror, im steve bunce . What where you look in the mirror, im steve bunce . What do you do . Youd like to think i do some chanting, but no, it doesnt work that way. I see if i have anything left over from friday nights supper. I make a couple of cups of coffee and drink some water, then i come on because its a pleasure coming on with you guys. Its an absolute pleasure, simple as that. We love it. If you are having a lag in ourfour hours of broadcasting, that does the trick. Thanks very much, holly. Always lovely talking to you, steve. You ta ke lovely talking to you, steve. You take care. At an age when most people are settling into retirement, 70 year old Frank Rothwell is about to embark on the toughest challenge of his life. My wifes going to watch this dont say that no, the waves dont worry me. Of course not. They dont. They dont worry you as long as you are not in them, judith this week, it was time for goodbye. The next time he seesjudith, he hopes to be the oldest person ever to complete the transatlantic rowing race. Keep going and keep on growing. Fantastic how about that. Im very proud of him because its things that i could not do. Yeah, im not a challenge person. You know, i dont work like that. The update on the situation is frank sta rts the update on the situation is frank starts today and in a couple of hours time he will be launching from the canaries on the epic journey. He in good spirits. He did say he would miss his wife though, they have been together since teenagers. Lets talk to stav. My elder is a good word to describe whats happening, isnt it . Yes, we are starting to see a change to our weather through this weekend. Since the start of december it has been cold and grey at times with our first significant snowfall of the season. A picture behind me of blue skies overhead in devon, thats because we have this ridge of High Pressure moving in which will settle things down certainly through the day today. This area of low pressure behind me will bring the change, thatis behind me will bring the change, that is wet and windy weather to all areas and it will also bring milder air in too. Sunny skies across much of Northern Ireland, pushing into western scotland, much of wales, South West England. It stays cloudy here, but quite pleasant out west. There might be the odd shower around but most places will be dry. The clearer skies out west will transfer eastwards tonight so temperatures will drop here. Meanwhile out west in the area of low pressure starts to move in so temperatures will be on the rise as the wind and rain sta rts on the rise as the wind and rain starts to sweep in. It will be quite wet here by the end of the night. This area of low pressure is firmly with us on sunday. Lots of isobars on the chart. It will start bright in eastern areas first thing, it wont last long, the cloud and wind and rain will push in. Still some colder air and rain will push in. Still some colderair in and rain will push in. Still some colder air in scotland so some of the rain could turn to snow over Higher Ground. Some of it could be heavy as well, particularly over southern and Western Hills, where we will see the strongest of the winds. Up will see the strongest of the winds. Up to 20 to 30 mph in land. We have not seen values this quite a while, 11 to 13 degrees in the south. Still single figures across the far north east. Low pressure anchored to the north west of the uk for monday. Again lots of isobars on the chart so again lots of isobars on the chart so it will be windy. Our air source coming in from the azores so it will stay mild and that mild air pushing north into much of scotland too. We will see outbreaks of rain and showers across northern and Western Areas. Some areas staying dry altogether but again it will be a blustery day. But milder, up to 13 degrees and pleasant in the sunshine. Double figures also across the north of the uk. For the rest of this coming week, it will stay u nsettled this coming week, it will stay unsettled and mild with temperatures in double figures. Particularly across wales and into england as well. But it will be windy i think each day, with the chance of a spell of rain and gales on wednesday, particularly across Western Areas. You have to stay tuned to the forecast for this. Rain across the hills incessantly through the week. Thats all from me, back to you. Always tuning in, enjoy the rest of your weekend, thank you. Its a big weekend for Christmas Shopping but, for those who have lost theirjobs during the pandemic, thats a cause for anxiety rather than excitement. With some parents struggling to feed their children never mind buying toys and gifts schools have become a vital source of support. Abbie jones went to a Primary School in wirral, merseyside, to find out more. Christmas is in full swing at riverside primary. But with the excitement comes pressure for pa rents, excitement comes pressure for parents, many struggling to make ends meet. You have heard children saying father christmas hasnt got a lot of money this year because of the virus, and you think, i know its not all about money but thats hard, isnt it, if you have had to tell your children that. Riverside is in an area of high deprivation. 58 of pupils here have Free School Meals compared to 17 nationally. Marcus rashford is a school hero. But since the pandemic, more working families have been desperately turning to staff for help. Its not easy watching people suffer, and you can hear the anxiety in their voices. I have had parents crying on the phone. One time at half past six at night i got a phone call and this pa rent at night i got a phone call and this parent was absolutely in tears. She was desperate, her electricity had gone out and she had no money. What do you do . That parent was nicki. I broke down on the phone to debbie andl broke down on the phone to debbie and i said im really scared. I dont know how im going to be able to cope through lockdown. A complex ca re to cope through lockdown. A complex care worker, nikki is on a zero hours contract. Before covid she had savings, now they are all gone. There was some weeks we would have enough food in for the kids but me and my husband wouldnt eat. To be able to just get that loaf of bread round for lunch is the next day. How do you feel about christmas . Are you worried . Yes, its not going to be as normal and the children are asking for things that we cant afford. Mum of two carly has also struggled, she works ina carly has also struggled, she works in a barbers and had no money coming infor in a barbers and had no money coming in forfive months. In a barbers and had no money coming in for five months. Im quite a proud person so it took a lot for me to say listen, like i do need that help. Would you have got by without school . Definitely not. You dont know where to turn when you are in that situation. There was always someone you that situation. There was always someone you could ring and tell them your worries. Riverside gave parents like nikki and carly food and vouchers and help them apply for universal credit. This christmas there will be more hampers, sim cards, toys and help with fuel bills. I think they really get how much we care. You can think you understand, but i think unless you are actually in the situation yourself, unless you are a mum and yourself, unless you are a mum and you have four children and you are thinking, what am you have four children and you are thinking, whatam i you have four children and you are thinking, what am i going to feed them now . I dont know, if anything its made us stronger than we were before. And also i would say the community, the parents. To cement that community spirit, a christmas visit to a local care home. Away in a manger, no crib for a bed. Christmas carols may have to be sung outside this year, but there is the promise of better times to come. Merry christmas it is really lovely to see the things people are doing. Schools in that case doing it, and across generations how everybody is trying to help each other. Abbiejones reporting in that piece. If youre hoping to wow your family with some weird and wonderful trivia over christmas dinner, youd be well advised to watch 0 on bbc two. But the facts on that show dont come out of thin air. They are lovingly and carefully researched by a team of so called qi elves. First lets take a quick look at the sort of information they love to dig up. Which of these can you eat if you area which of these can you eat if you are a strict vegan . All of them. Was one of them made out of animals . No, arm and is, avocados, all of them in fa ct, arm and is, avocados, all of them in fact, it is the same reason as honey. They cant exist without bees and bees are used in an unnatural way. Because they are so difficult to cultivate naturally, all of these are taken on trucks and taken long distances across the country. Its an unnatural use of animals, and lots of foods fall foul of this. Broccoli, cucumbers, lettuce, lots of things which are not strictly vegan. It is harder to be vegan than i thought. Thats why you need 0 elves to sort out whats real. We can now talk to two of the q elves Andrew Murray and anne miller. Good morning. What is your favourite thing you have found out for 01 . That is a good question. My favourite is why the hawaiian pizza is called the hawaiian pizza. Its not invented in hawaii, it was invented by a greek canadian but hawaiian is the brand of pineapple he used to, the name on the tin, and it stuck around. I bet hawaiians get really annoyed when people go over and say i will have a home made traditional pizza andrew, whats yours . It changes with the weather, its normally the last thing i researched. I found out about a fish called the parrotfish which is adorable because every night and it makes itself a pair of pyjamas out of its own mucus, then every morning it eats its own pyjamas from the night before. That is pretty weird and wonderful and charming. Im so fascinated, andrew. In what circumstance. Are you just sitting there going, hmm . How do you come across a nugget like that . We are currently researching the s across a nugget like that . We are currently researching the 5 series so currently researching the 5 series so you have this wonderful peg, you can literally just go so you have this wonderful peg, you can literallyjust go through the dictionary and say, im going to find out everything i can about shadows. Or for example sausages. Where do you begin with sausages . Yes, we covered sausages quite a lot because they are such a funny food. Obviously they have been in the news a bit recently. We found out re ce ntly a bit recently. We found out recently volkswagen sell more sausages than they do cars because with quite a lot of cars in germany you get a free pack of five when you get a you get a free pack of five when you geta carand you get a free pack of five when you get a car and they are now sold in supermarkets because they are so popular. You are talking about the parrotfish and i have a question. I dont believe that pyjamas keep you warmer in bed when its cold then if you werent wearing any night clothes at all. Is that true . think it depends what youre pyjamas are made out of. When its hot people think no pyjamas is best, but if you where natural fibre is people think no pyjamas is best, but if you where naturalfibre is meant to keep you the right temperature but also if you have any sweat that keeps it away from you, so in the night its meant to be an extra layer but it depends what your pyjamas are made of. Also it depends how many blankets are on your bed because they are really thick. Andrew, i have a question that ive often thought about for no particular reason in relation to ear lobes. Is it true that mens ear lobes. Is it true that mens ear lobes grow at a different rate to womens . Actually i dont think it is. There is this common myth or idea that as men in particular get older their idea that as men in particular get oldertheirear idea that as men in particular get older their ear lobes get longer or theirears older their ear lobes get longer or their ears get bigger. In fact a few studies have shown that everyones ears get slightly bigger and slightly longer as they age. There are a range of possibilities. It could just be gravity, it could be cartilage, you know your skin loses a bit of its collagen. Maybe because women wear their a bit of its collagen. Maybe because women weartheir hair a bit of its collagen. Maybe because women wear their hair longer nobody notices. You just dont see it as often, that is a very straightforward explanation. Can i just ask you, charlie, you say you think about this a lot. Is there something you are concerned about particularly with your ear lobes . No, it is no more than an observation. Are you concerned about your ear lobes growing . Not concerned at all. Its not a personal question. Its not one of those questions where you say, one of my best friends. Did you have a question . I have a question for anne. When you have net curtains, how come you can see out of them so clearly but the idea is nobody can see into your house . It is kind of an optical illusion. The way they work as you can see from the darker side to the brighter side so in the daytime you see a beautiful pattern and you cannot see through, but in the inside the curtain almost becomes a silhouette and you can see past it. At night time this flips around so if you are in the living room with a bright light on, you cant see outcome you can see the pattern, but everyone on the street can see in. That is a good reminder to pull your curtains when its dark. I have met sandy quite a few times, and dark. I have met sandy quite a few times, and i imagine, is shejusta fantastic starting point for trivia . Because i imagine thats kind of the way her brain works, always exploring things. It really is. She knows so much that its often quite ha rd knows so much that its often quite hard to get a fact passed her that shes not heard before. 0r hard to get a fact passed her that shes not heard before. Or if you mention a particular river, she will say, actually i spent a couple of months canoeing along the river in 199a, months canoeing along the river in 1994, or whatever it is. Shes an amazing fountain of knowledge. have more question. I dont mind who a nswe rs , have more question. I dont mind who answers, may be untrue. Why is it that vinegar is so magical when it comes to clearing streaks of glass and nothing else really works as well . So i think this is because vinegar is mostly water, about 95 water, but the other 5 is a thing called acetic acid. When you are cleaning the windows of the marks you get, maybe it is hard water on the windows, those are alkaline and obviously acid and alkali are opposites so it is the acid in the vinegar that leaves it perfectly streak free every time. One last thought for you. We were debating earlier on whether a pie has to have sides, as in pastry sides and base. That is too controversial. My brother and i have an ongoing argument so im going to respectfully bow out of this one. Andy, do you want to weigh in . Got to have sides. Top only, perfect. The q elves, thank you so much. Thats all from breakfast today. Ben and sally will be with you from six tomorrow. Have a good day. This is bbc news with the latest headlines for viewers in the uk and around the world.
