Discuss the goals and agenda of the president s commission on combating drug addiction and Opioid Crisis which he established yesterday. The commission which is going to be chaired by chris chris yi is the next step to promise that he would take real action to keep drugs from pouring into our countries and corrupting our communities. Under leadership and working with white house innovation, the commission will bring leaders on both sides of the aisle to protect and treat American People from this epidemic, rather. Many members in attendance with the lunch played a key part in passing bipartisan comprehensive addiction also known as cara, first major federal addiction in over 40 years which authorized over 181 million to fight the opioid epidemic, part of the president s commission will be make sure that funds are spent effectively. Too many lives are at stake to be wasting money in this effort. Moving on later this afternoon, the president will welcome Prime Minister of denmark for a working visit. We will have a readout on bilateral meeting at its conclusion. A couple of followups from yesterdayics hunter asked about the house and Senate Passage disapproving of the federal Communications Regulations on privacy rules from last year, so let me just expand on that a little and let me get to your question. The white house supports congress using authority under congressional act to roll back last years fcc rules on broadband regulation. Treat serve providers differently than edge providers such as google and facebook, we classify them as common carriers, like a hotel or another Retail Outlet and open door to regulatory framework. This would allow to be treated fairly and equal playing field. The president pledge today reverse this federal overreach in which bureaucrats in washington take the interest of one group of companies over the interest of others picking and winners and losers. The president signed more legislation under Congressional Review Act than all president s combined already and will continue to fight washington red ten that stifles innovation and economic great. Jeff was here yesterday. We are following on jeffs question. He asked about the administrations position on the paris climate treaty. We are currently reviewing issues related to the agreement and expect to have a decision by the time of the g7 summit lay mayish if not sooner. Before i take your questions, i want to speak about judge gorsuch and the process of nomination and from the beginning the president has been transparent about his choices, if he had been elected who he would choose from. As a matter of fact the level of transparency and he would pick his choice from the Supreme Court from. The American People sent him to the white house to nominate one of those choices and he did it. Prior to the president making final decision, the white house spoke with 29 senators, more than half of whom were from the democrat side of the aisle including every democrat member of the Senate Judiciary committee to seek advice and consent. The consensus was that the president s pick should be a respected mainstream judge. As i layed out many times before from consent to have tenth Circuit Court of appeals to the extraordinary low rate of majority opinions accompanied by the senate, judge gorsuch is a definition of a mainstream respected judge. Hes offered the Senate Plenty of material to vouch for that. Since his nomination, judge gorsuch met with nearly 80 senators in response to request gorsuch provided the following, over 80, 70 pages of written answers about his personal records in response to 299 questions for the record from democrats on the committee, the most in recent history which he submitted within six days of receiving the questions. Over 75,000 pages of documents including speeches, case briefs, opinions and written work going back as far as college. And over 180,000 pages of email and paper record related to the judges time at the department of justice. In fact, the department of justice provided access to many document that is would normally be guarded by various privileges in a historically unprecedented move in the spirit of cooperation with Senate Democrats. And the judge sat for three rounds and nearly 20 hours of questioning by the Senate Judiciary committee during which he was asked nearly 1,200 questions. Almost twice as many as justices sotomayor, kagne or ginsburg. Many announced to filibuster judge gorsuchs nomination. Unfortunately it looks more, more Like Senate Democrats would rather do all that they did in reading and questioning for nothing more than to than political theater. Finally, before i take a question, a later was transmitted recently to the ranking and chairman of the house and Senate Intelligence committees that said in the ordinary course of business, National Security staff discovered document that is we believe are in response to your march 15th 2017 letter to Intelligence Committee seeking documents, quote documents necessary collected on u. S. Persons was mishandled and leak, end quote. We have an will invite the senate and house Ranking Members and chairman up to the white house to view that material in accordance with their schedule. With that, im glad to take a few of your questions. Cheryl. Sean, im trying to gauge the probability of a Government Shutdown at the end of april, are your directions to the capitol hill to hold firm on the spending cuts that the president wants or to try to wheel a deal and get a bill that can keep the government open . I dont know that theyre mutually exclusive. [inaudible] there generally is. I think that we want both. We want to maintain some of the Spending Priorities as well as some of the reductions in the 2017 budget. We want to do so responsibly and do within priorities that the president has layed out. I think his funding requests and priorities are layed out in the budget that director mulvaney detailed and sent up for the remainder of 2017. Theres some key things in that and i think that it is going to be begin a conversation that we will continue to have with the house and senate but i dont think both of those goals are mutually exclusive. Obviously we dont want the government to shut down but we want to make sure we are funding the priorities of the government. John. A tweet that he tweet out on twitter. He seems to be picking a fight with the Freedom Caucus. The member has 30 members. Does the president realize how important this caucus, this coalition is in terms of passing a replacement bill for the Affordable Care act and passing the rest of he is legislative agenda . Well u of course, he understands that the goal of all legislation is to get to a majority in the house, majority in the senate and so but at tend to have day he recognizes that he has a bold and robust agenda that hes trying to enact, that he ran on and told the American People that he would do when he was president and hes going to get the votes from wherever he can. Can he pass the agenda without the help of the Freedom Caucus . Theres two questions, mathematically, yes, but secondly, i think theres a few members of the Freedom Caucus both prior to last fridays vote and since then who have expressed a willingness to want to work with him rather than necessarily as a block and i think that there continues to be some promising signs in that with that. Again, part of it is if people are more concerned with voting as block and whats the best interest of their constituents and the American People, hes hoping that people will see the bigger picture, the goal that is we outlined and sometimes not enemy of the perfect. That he would be in favor of primarying individuals in the Freedom Caucus. Im going to say let the tweets speak for themselves just for your understanding. It would be improper of me to discuss election or defeat of candidate. Matt. I want fen [laughter] according to New York Times provided nunes with the information last week and according to times senior director who was hired by Michael Flynn started going through documents after the president tweet, the wiretapping tweet. Im wonder if the white house thinks its appropriate for National Security officials to be conducting what is basically a Political Task which is trying to find information but validate something the president said. I read the report and your question assume that is your reporting is correct. I would just suggest to you that the letter that was submitted earlier to the ranking, the chairman of the Ranking Members of the two committees, two Intelligence Committees on the hill, the reason that the white house has asked them to come up is to view that information. Again, i dont want to get in front of that as i said before, we are not as obsessed with the process as much as the substance and our goal is to make sure that the Ranking Members of both committees as well as the chairman see the information that the materials that are important and worry about the outcome at the end of this. And then on a different topic with mrs. Walshs departure today, are you expecting any shakeups . No. [inaudible] im saying that in order to comment on that story would be to validate certain things that im not at liberty to do. [inaudible] who he met with and i understand that. Again, i think theres assumption as i said before, we cannot condone in the same that you protect sources, when i call you and say, you have 18 Anonymous Sources and you go, i cant reveal my sources, chairman nunes in conducting an investigation and review has an opportunity to have his sources. Our view is that the smart move was to make all of the materials available to the chairman and Ranking Member of the relevant committees and i understand the obsession with the process piece but we are focused on the substance of it and i think the goal is to make sure that people have the substance that are looking into this that we have asked to lo look into this. [inaudible] no. We sent a letter within the past few hours to both of those committees informing them that and what kind of message do you think they sent the people in washington . I think it sends a message that we want them to look into this. As we have maintained all along, that theres a belief that the president has maintained, that there was surveillance that occurred during 2016 election that was improper and that we want people to look into this and take the appropriate legal responsible steps to both understand it and then address it. I want to read to you something that you said here on march 23rd when you were asked if the white house had my role in providing information to chairman nunes. You first said that it didnt make any sense and you went onto say, im quoting you here, i dont know why he, chairman nunes would brief rather than brief us on something that he briefed us on. It doesnt really make sense. Theres now reporting which i cant tell its disputing or not that identifies two people within the white house sources of this information. Im just trying to put the things together. Right. You said that it doesnt pass the smell test on march 23rd. Again they were the sources of this and im just trying to put those two things together. Number one, the first quote that youre reading, if you go back, i was responding i was very clear that i said based on what chairman nunes has said, the following doesnt make sense. Im guessing so please tell us no, no. Again, major, ive commented on this both yesterday and today that your obsession with who talked to whom and when is not the answer. It should be the substance. And in the same when you print story with 18 Anonymous Sources, your obsession is the substance. You continue to look at it from a backwards prism. Did something happen in the 2016 election . Did leaks occur . We are not going to engage actively in that kind of leaking that has been a problem. In fact, if you look at the obamas Deputy Assistant secretary of defense thats out there evelyn, she made it clear that it was their goal to spread this information around, that they went around and did this, she said, quote, thats why theres so many leaks. They have admitted on the record that this was their goal to leak stuff and literally she said on the record, trumps team. There are serious questions out there about what happened and why and who did it and i think thats really where our focus is and making sure that that information gets out. Cant the process from your advantage point validate the importance of the substance . Well, i think theres a review that weve asked for probably you told us that youre willing to look into and provide us answers. No, no. Please dont put words in my mouth. I never said i would provide you answers. I said that we would look into it. The responsible thing for us to do is to provide the individuals and the committees who are doing to t review the review, provide materials. Our goal is to be forthright as possible. The intelligence communities and others in a march letter for information. We have decided we are willing to provide them with the information that we have the materials that we have come across and i think that is important. Again, our obligation is to make sure that review is done both house and senate and not to make sure that illegally leak out information to you. Disputing reports of the New York Times . Im not commenting, major. We meaning the white house is not going to start confirming [inaudible] i get it. We are not going to start commenting on one Anonymous Sources that publications published. If it were wrong, would you tell us . Im not going to get into it. How many times you can ask the same question . Hunter. Thank you, sean. Two questions. First, President Trump is pushing for major tax cuts, increase in defense and border wall. Does he think that the agenda has to be deficit neutral or is he open to plan that is might initially add to the debt . When it comes to tax reform, he has three underlying goals. One is tax simplification and two lower the rates and three is to grow jobs and the economy. Part of it is if you look at it dynamically as the plan develops and we are not there yet. As the plan develops, and theres a cost put on it, thats going to be decision that gets looked at. To answer the question without knowing the full scope of it, is looking at something and answering it in a vacuum. Clarify one thing with the New York Times story. I know you wont identify congressman nunes sources. Isnt it clear that some white house officials had to be involved with him getting information here because they would need to help him access the complex . I cannot get into who those individuals were. Someone at the white house . Well, again, if i start going down the path of confirming and denying one thing that we are going down a very slippery slope. Jis jessica. Thank you, sean. I have a couple of questions about that visit, if you entertain me. Can you talk about the location and how it was chosen for this visit . There is as you can imagine on any trip, no matter who the foreign leader, theres a lot of discussion that goes back and forth between the white house, state department and the equivalence of the other state of government, their appropriate counterparts. Those are the things that go back and forth in terms of how long the activities, what will be discussed, every single thing is discussed on both sides. And so that was a long and ongoing negotiation with the government of china and with their representatives lasting several weeks now. How did you abrief arrive at maralago . Both sides discussed various locations and topics and agendas and et cetera and this is where they arrived for the trip. Theres a few things. One, this is an opportunity for President Trump to develop relationship with president xi, he has spoken to him on the phone a few times but we have big problems and everything from the South China Sea to trade to north korea. There are big issues of national and Economic Security that need to get addressed and i think theres going to be a lot on the table when it comes to that over the two days if they will talk. They are expecting the white house to provide some sort of framework and are you prepared for that and can you talk a little bit about the framework might be. Can you expand a little . Looking for how to view the relationship, obviously you had the rebalance and the pivot and the prior administration, is there a tag line or a vision that you will roll out during this visit . We will see. You have any hashtags let me know. I think right now we are not worried too much about slogans as much as progress. We will work on that, kristin. Thanks, sean. Did the president direct anyone in this white house or National Security team to try to find information or intelligence to back up [inaudible] i dont im not aware of anything directly. I would have to look into that in terms of theres two sides to this. One is the information side and two is the policy and the activities and the legal piece of what would happen and i dont thosewill. Its possible . Im not going to comment on. One more, dont sort of the daily questions about this make it necessary to have some type of outside independent investigation to lift any lingering cloud that there may be . No. I think you have two committees looking into this, the fbi has been looking into this. As they mentioned tat hearing, how many do you want . I understand that you may not have that theres house intelligence investigation is still valid given all of these questions . How is it not valid . I mean the questions about where devin nunes got his information from would it not be smart to have an independent right now you have the investigation, other probably in Intelligence Committee and you have two congressional committees looking into it. So im not really sure the exact need, i think, that people are doing. I understand that theres a need for you to have more information and more sources, i think this is being done in a responsible way where people are being discussed, what they know and appropriate classification level and information is being shared. Can you quickly talk about the timing of inviting [inaudible] is it because of this report . I think a couple of things. One is they they asked they tasked the various committees in midmarch you know e, agencies, rather, to provide information. We felt we had information that was relevant and i think there were some theres a desire to make sure that both sides of the aisle who are looking into this as well as both chambers had that information. I dont anita. Eric trump gave an interview a few days ago to Forbes Magazine in which he said he would update his father regularly including profitability reports. I had two questions about that. One have they spoken about the business since january and two how does this not violate what the president set out as the protocols for how he would deal with the business . Well, two things. I dont know if they have spoken. Thats maybe a question better to the Trump Organization but secondly, everything that hes done is in accordance with what the Council Office folks. Im just following up. He said he wasnt going to talk to his children, his sons about the business. How is that all thats being done in terms of reports or updates is being done in the consultation with the counsels office. I think thats [inaudible] ask about the substance. Its sort of unclear what you guys are telling the chairman and the Ranking Members, is that information that would validate the president s claims about surveillance during the 2016 campaign or is it information about their Russian Investigation . Again, im not here to share that. Thats why we invited them up to view it in a classified setting, in an appropriate setting. Its not to be shared with people that dont have the appropriate clearrance. Youre not implying that this is the information that chairman nunes is talking about . What im suggesting is that theres been information material thats come to light and we want to make sure that the people that are conducting the review have that information and have access to it. And then [inaudible] im wondering if thats prompted National Security concerns in the administration and if there is any effort within the administration to sort of help them navigate the bankruptcy considering i have to check on that. I think theres obviously a couple of departments that would be interested in that. I want to ask you to elaborate more on what you so far have told us. You said in the ordinary course of business the National Security staff discovered documents. Can you explain how these documents were uncovered . What does it mean no, im not. Thats why we have invited them up for a classified into a classified setting, for them to see these materials and understand it. This is not the setting thats appropriate to discuss that. Who would be in the National Security staff to uncover the documents . Good question. As i mentioned multiple times we are not here to go through the process. Our job is to get to the substance of this and make sure that the people have appropriate access and authority to look into this matter and take appropriate steps. Are you in a position right now to deny or rule out the possibility [inaudible] im not going to get in any further details on this. I will just suggest to you if i can go back to something that the Obama Administrations Deputy Assistant secretary of defense noted very clearly on the record that they were engaged in an effort to spread information about Trump Officials that had come up in intelligence. Thats not i mean, that is several networks, evelyn made that proclamation regarding the trump team. Thats something that they made clear on the record, john. A couple of things, sean. First of all, on the Freedom Caucus in response to the president and congressman, most people dont like to be bullied in response to the president and also saying that setting out such tweets may allow a child to get his way but thats not how government works. Could you take a moment to respond to congressman amash . I think this is consistent with everything that he has said since friday of last week and i think that he is looking for members on both sides of the aisle and want to be construct i have constructive and achieve health system. Its a mass strategy and continue to move the agenda forward. If i could follow up, you accused people in the room to be more interested in process than actually in the substance of things, but when information is discovered by the Intelligence Committee chairman in the house at the white house to what the president has tweeted out and its reported that some of the people thats involved in uncovering that information is a white house staff member who was kept in his position over the request of the National Security adviser by the Political Leadership here at the white house, does the process not then take on some relevance . As i noted, we have invited the chairman and the Ranking Member who is are looking into this and reviewing the matter up here. That doesnt mean that we allow unclear media im not asking that question. You are. Thats not what i asked. What i asked is when you have that connection of dots all the way along, does the process providence does not come out it is up to the people who are clear to look at that information and that material to look at it and make their evaluation and i think they are conducting the review, youve seen clearly both on the house and both on senate side that look into this matter. Thats the appropriate venue, forum and personnel to be reviewing it. Plain and simple. A quick followup on that, you mentioned a couple of times thank you. Was the president briefed im sorry, i couldnt hear you. Has the president now been briefed on that that youre inviting the chair Committee Members to view and when was he briefed on it . Im not entirely when or the status of that is but i can follow up on that. [inaudible] i understand the question. Like i said, i will into whether or not where that stands, blake. Blake the timeline here on Health Care First and tax reform second. There was a fox poll released that says 73 of americans want tax reform to happen this year with health care at least now being on hold. Is health care the number one priority for this administration, is tax reform the number one priority for this administration at this point or is Health Care Still kind of taking up some of the oxygen . I dont know its taking up oxygen. I think theres plenty of oxygen for both to go on. I think the president would like to see it go on. Theres no reason why we cant. You at timeline for tax reform, you are looking several months. I think the process beginning on that and you will have a dual track strategy. Its not an either or proposition. And you discussed about first days, can you lay out what that yeah. Is the president given detail strategies or what is involved . I think its a little bit of both. They are talking about the process that they intend to partake, how this is going to lay out and who they are engaging and how they are going to begin the process and Guiding Principles in making sure that any principals are incorporated but parton how they intend to do it. [inaudible] theres also infrastructure out there. Can all of those go together . Lots of tracks. I mean, remember theyre not all the same people, some of them overlap, some dont. I think part of it is that some things can happen sooner than others because of the legislative calendar. Some things are going to take longer because of both the legislative calendar and and because of the number of individuals involved and the complexity of the situation but theres a lot of things that can be moved on at once. Thank you, sean. Turning to the foreign front. Yesterday twice poisoned [inaudible] and testified before a Senate Appropriation subcommittee backing continued sanctions against russia. He also called on secretary of state tillerson to meet with Russian Civil Society members, in other words, antiputin like himself when he makes trip to moscow this month. He was going to meet with members of congress in both parties but would be happy to meet with any administration officials. Are there any plans for president or anyone in the president to meet and will mr. Tillerson meet with the Russian Civil Society . Im not aware. Both the National Security and state counsel are appropriate for you to address that to, alexis. [inaudible] i thought it was just yesterday that you said that when you were asked to clear chairman nunes that you would ask preliminary questions that you had not gotten answers and continue to ask. Yeah. My question today ask is you know the answers or you dont know . Theyre reviewing the situation and make them available that getting into sources and process is not the proper way to conduct this review and we want the people who are conducting it to understand more fully the materials, not necessarily who came in what time and whatever. So just to clarify again, you asked the question, you were not given answers im just saying you asked that, let me finish. You said yesterday that you asked, you didnt get the answers and so what youre telling us today you were never going to get the answer, you yourself, you were never going to get the answer, of chairman nunes . What im saying the decision was made to focus on the substance and the decision was made i let you answer ask the question, so let me answer it, please. The answer that im giving you is that the decision was made internally to focus on the individuals who were doing the review both republicans and the democrats, house and senate and have them come in and look at the materials. Thats what the focus should be on, alexis. Wait, here is my russia interfered with the 2016 election, that is is the center piece of the fbi and Senate Intelligence committee. My question is, can you update us, what is the president doing now in the administration to respond to director comeys testimony that that interference is not just Election Year based but continuing . What youre talk about the executive order, is that correct . Im just asking, can you update, what is the administration doing to prevent that, to okay. To respond to that preliminary finding already that we already know that is continuing. The executive order that the president sign that had continues the National Emergency deals with looking into malicious attempts and cyber attempts to come into the United States. Thats what the executive order was. Thats sum total of the response so far. Im not going to get into whats being done behind the scenes in terms of the intelligence Law Enforcement community. There was with respect to challenges that the United States faces from a variety of actors outside of the United States to come in and use cyber techniques to hack the United States, the the National Emergency will continue under the president to address the threats that we face from abroad and from a variety of places. April. [inaudible] im sorry, go ahead and come back to me. Caitlin and then april. [laughter] [inaudible] so, sean, what is the ultimate goal of the leaders coming in and will it be information that nunes received plus or will it just be basically a synopsis of a sin synopsis of what he has received . Its relevant to the discussion of the area that theyre reviewing. Thats up to them to relevance. Its up to them to make the decision about the relevance of those documents and what that leads them to believe. Theres two issues. One is what do they see and what do they want to see in addition to that or as a result of those materials. So, in other words, they may see things and say, hey, this is interesting, i wonder if theres a pattern. This is interesting, i want to see more or they may to allow the members of both the committees on a bipartisan basis to come in and review materials that we think are relevant to the issues that the president talked about with respect to surveillance, the masking, unmasking of individuals, the handling of it, et cetera, et cetera, and its up to those members to decide what to do with that information, how to explore that more indepth. So ultimately, in questioning, they can wind up getting up what nunes received [inaudible] just sitting in the intelligence meeting like the president does digging and as he decides to dig more, he will give more . I think thats possible. I dont want to prejudge what they ask and what comes in response, it also has to do with what documents we have. They may go down a particular trail and have to follow up with an agency and say we saw this, can we see a follow up on that. As you saw from media reports, the nsa has been asked to provide documentation to the house. From my understanding from the reports that it was ongoing and maybe some of the materials that they see prompt them to ask additional questions. But thats part of providing it to them. Its an ongoing review and what we want is is for them to see these materials and come to the conclusions or or need more information to come to a conclusion but this is part of that review process. Are they allowed to say any i [inaudible] are some of the other members to see even though they are not the head of the committee . Are they allow tod allowed to see them . My understand is that they would. No, no. Caitlin. Two questions for you. Has the white house raised a possibility of a cabinet position or a top intelligence post later on in the administration for devin nunes . Not that im aware of. Would the president have press conference to answer im not good enough . Hes the one who made the claims. You didnt make the claims. I will convey your request to him. Im sure he enjoyed the last one so much. Does that work for you . Okay, let me see what i can come up with. Cecilia. Do they validate the president s wiretap claims . I dont know. Its members of e National Security committee that have come aoss the document that is want to make them available to the member that is are leading the review. Why not just be more forthcoming about this entire process of who let nunes in . If the president of e united stes could tweet about wiretapping, doesnt the American Public have the right to know more . They do. Thats why we are going through a process. I say this respectfully. I understand that you want all of those answers, what were they wearing, what door did they come in. The relevant questions are about the substance of this and and its interesting, i dont get the same thing when i see the unpublished stories with Anonymous Sources. You dont tell me who your sources im answering cecilias question. Doweled you accept his apology . [laughter] [inaudible] thank you. Thats not how it works, though. But i would argue that you guys when you write a story and you call and say we have four Anonymous Sources and i say who are the sources, sorry, im not revealing to but the substance that im asking you to respond to but when the shoe is on the other foot, youre all about the process. Theres two congressional committees that are conducting review of the situation and the committees are looking at relevant and talking to relevant people. To your point about the process, we have made individuals available and encouraged individuals to it have testify or to meet with that have been approached. I think what we are doing and i know you probably disagree, but we are doing to responsible thing by making sure that documents and materials are shown to people with the appropriate classifications and the appropriate settings and that the people met the different committees would like to discuss the matters with are made available to them. I think thats the responsible way of handling this. Yeah. Thank you very much. I have two questions. [inaudible] today the Supreme Court in venezuela said they will take over the [inaudible] what can we expect the United States to do . And the other question is Climate Change because president obama signed bilerl bilateral deals with china, brazil and india. On the first one, respectfully i will refer you to the state department. The only Supreme Court im really focused on right now is ours and getting judge neil gorsuch con foirmed by the senate. I would be glad, i think the state department is an appropriate venue to discuss the activities over there and second, when it comes to things like the paris treaty as i mentioned at the outset, that is being [inaudible] i understand. I think that there are things that we will have updates for on all of these things as we move forward. Right now ive got nothing. Thank you, sean. Wall street journal reported this morning that the Trump Administration is proposing more modest changes to nafta like, for example, leaving arbitration right. Et cetera, et cetera. Is the white house backing away from some of the more sweeping changes of nafta that the president proposed during the campaign . I would argue that robert isnt nominated yet. Thats not a statement of Administration Policy at this point. Theres nothing that in those document that is we are confirming or in that report, rather, that we are confirming. That is not a statement of Administration Policy. That is not accurate academy aassessment of where we are at this time and i think our goal is to get Robert Lighthiser appointed as embassador and trade representative and when we have that, we will have plenty of updates with respect where we go to nafta and the trade agreement. With that, i am going to say goodbye and see you tomorrow. First one is maybe republicans were critical about president obama had handled the revolution, is this something that wasnt what does the administration feel the role should be regarding that . Thats a hypothetical question. I know, when it comes to protest, we obviously encourage as we did last sunday the peaceful the government to allow peaceful protest of individuals throat the country. We obviously support the people to have a voice in every government throat the world. And on the subject of partisanship and obstructionism, whose responsibility the president feels it is to put end to partisanship and who needs to be reaching out to whom collectively . Its a twostreet. The president and the first lady extended the invitation for everyone to come. We are excited to see a third of Senate Democrats come. I wish we had seen more. Theres an opportunity to engage in a discussion about some of the issues and come together but i would argue that, you know, when you look at this fight on gorsuch there are i dont disagree with the fact that if youre a democrat you probably dont necessarily agree with some of the rulings and some of the philosophies of judge gorsuch, i get that. At the end of the day, they have always agreed in most cases, the filibuster has never been the norm. It hasnt. It is odd to see that these individuals who have its one thing to vote no and one thing to say we dont agree but to now turn to filibuster or threatening to filibuster senate, unbelievably qualified people and theres nobody that im aware of even on the left that is suggesting that judge gorsuch isnt qualify today serve as Supreme Court justice. Republicans in the past have allowed democrat president s to have their nominees voted on up or down and for the most part when you go back to president obama, president clinton, they have been republicans have joined to allow people that are qualified to go on the court. To see this new precedent be formed by leader schumer is disappointing. This is a huge, huge crack. I think there was a column, one of the papers today, you are fundamentally changing how its going to operate by doing this. Its an important they can disagree with him, i get that, when you get an election you have to assume that the republican president is going to choose republicans for appointments and for federal judgeships and the democrats will do the same with with their time in office. But it was obamas, you know, nominees that got through all with republican support and its difficult to understand why when you have someone as eminently qualified as gorsuch that this is the stake that they want to drive. It further sets a divide in the country when we cant allow people who are qualified and universally so to get on the bench. Is that from the president side . I think so. Sure. Its a two waystreet. I would ask you what is i remember a few years ago there was the talk from the getgo of obama, democrats made, how they we wanted to see him as a oneterm president. Theres no sense of them wanting to work with this president. At some point, i think we have shown a willingness to bring them together. Its amazing how many senators when you talk to them over the course of the last, you know, almost 70 days have said, you know, i have been to the white house more in the last 70 days on the Trump Administration than i was during eight years of Obama Administration and i think that that speaks to the president s desire to bring people together and find Common Ground on areas of mutual agreement where we can move the country forward. Thank you. I will see you tomorrow. [inaudible] trish all right, sean spicer everyone wrapping up briefing with reporters. Im trish regan. Welcome to the intelligence report. Here to break it out, good to see all of you. Im going to say this, basically the white house understands that they need to get a legislative win and not get caught up in the political quick sand of the obamacare repeal. They want to repeal and replace obamacare they can under budget reconciliation, now its not the time to stop momentum when 73 of americans according to latest fox poll want to see tax reform. Lets get it going. Everyone everything that the white house is doing, needs to improve lives of average americans. Trish i dont know how they do that when they are stuck talking about nunes and russia, russia, russia. Yeah. Trish thats what we heard mostly about in this press conference yet again today you know, its frustrating frankly. The nunes situation is, i think, somewhat important. We need to understand what has happened there. I i really commend the United States senate for actually doing what seems to be thorough bipartisan job in trying to get to the boo tom of what happened in regards to russia and interface with the american loikses and process in 2016, but i agree with ford, its important and its going to take discipline out of the white house as well as grownups on the house and senate to come to the aisle and do tax reform or things like infrastructure which, i think, infrastructure will be a not necessarily an easy bipartisan win but one of the easier ones that i think they can get a win on the board. Trish im looking up. We have a board. We have a board with market on it which is what im looking at right now and im looking at Dow Jones Industrial up 66 points and people are feeling positive about things there on wall street because they are hopeful that no matter what tax reform indeed will get done. And we have seen and ford mentioned from recent polls, this is what americans want regardless of what side of the aisle youre on. Yeah. Does it happen soon, august, preferably . I think we will see significant tax reform along the lines that President Trump and the House Republicans have have put together, corporate rate down to 20 , individual passthrough rate of 25 for business income through subchapter s corporations, absolutely and the individual rates down to 33 , cap gain 16 and a half. I believe this will happen. Its a lot easier to do and a lot easier to do it permanently if you get trish i have to leave it there, we will take a quick break. I will see you all right after s i realize that ah, that 100k is not exactly a fortune. Well, a 103 yeah, 103. Well, let me ask you guys. How long did it take you two to save that . A long time. Then its a fortune. Well, im sure you talk to people all the time who think 100k is just pocket change. Right now were just talking to you. I told you we had a fortune. Yes, you did. Cme group can help you navigate risks and capture opportunities. We enable you to reach Global Markets and drive forward with broader possibilities. Cme group how the world advances. Trish all right, we have a market up right now 63 points. Donald trump keeps making the point that hes all about the economy, hes all about jobs. You know, its challenging for people out there and its challenging for those who are looking toward retirement yet they may be excited about numbers you are looking at your screen. Question is, jerry, if someone is looking at this market and saying we are up 13 and i could use a little money right now, are some of them looking at 401 k s and is a lightbulb going on up there . If you are planning to touch as retiree, listen up, if you dont follow the complicated rules regarding minimum distributions you could end up with tax bill. April 1st is first time for first timers to take money. You must tap 401 k or ira by april 1st of the year after you reach age 70 and a half or the reach which you retire, whichever comes first after that you tap each year by december 31st. Why is the government you to take money out you may not otherwise need . They want to tax it. The money in 401 k was pretax, the government is tapping into over 25 trillion of untaxed money. Be careful here because if you ever miss a deadline doing this, the government will take half of what you were supposed to take out. Whats egregious about this is dealing with somebody who is 70 and a half, 85, 90yearolds could have accounts in multiple locations, iras, 401 k , 403bs and you have account for all those assets and you have to look at the total ira assets to calculate the r d. Most people arent capable of doing that. Bottom line, follow the irs rules to the t to keep from wasting retirement savings. Trish, difficult to do but a Financial Adviser can help you and also go to irs website. Trish thank you as always. We are taking a quick break and i will be right back hey, i just want to say thanks again for watching. Do you know that its now been six months in a row that we here at fox business have beaten the competition . Not bad, huh . Thanks to you. Thanks to us a little bit too. But thanks for watching as always. Liz i thought it was five. You just made my day, trish. Yes, six. Liz six months. And best to all of our viewers. Oh, my goodness. The markets are holding onto green, even as we have dueling developments at this hour. What were doing is were monitoring the senate right now as it kicks off its first day of open investigation into russian tampering with our president ial election. At the same time, there appears to be a full on gop civil war threatening among other things to bring the gears of government to a complete stand still. Whats on your left side . Its the live Senate Intelligence committee hearing
