Steve well, the controversy over the whistleblower complaint deepening as a new report claims the Intel Community revised its whistleblower complaint form, removing the requirement of direct, firsthand knowledge of the alleged wrongdoing. Steve you used to have to have seen it with your own two eyes or heard it with your own two ears. When did they change it . The changes to eliminate the requirement for first hand information in whistleblower complaints happened between may 2018 and august 2019. And it used to be required that you had to offer direct, personal, firsthand knowledge or else this particular complaint, which is known as an urgent concern complaint would be dismissed by the Intelligence Community Inspector General that was changed some time in the last year. When we asked the dni and ic for information who changed it when and why they straight up refused to answer that question. Steve thats part of the Intel Community. They keep a lot of secrets. Dont they . They certainly do. But when it comes to public documents about public concern about public impeachment trials, they need to be transparent. Steve lets take a look at the updated version of the complaint form from august of 2019. You say they say i know about the information im disclosing here and i have direct and personal knowledge or i heard about it from others. Thats the bottom line right there. What do you think about that . I heard about it from others because that seems to be the pattern that this particular whistleblower followed. Right. And if you look at the underlying statute that governs how whistleblower complaints are processed and investigated. The Inspector General has pretty wide latitude and discretion to set those policies and until recently, the icig said you need to have direct, firsthand evidence. And as we know with this particular antitrump complainant there was no firsthand evidence much of the firsthand or second hand evidence this person offered was false. Steve one thing thats troubling you is that the intel chair, adam schiff tweeted out information that was very same larr to the whistleblowers complaint but it was two weeks before the whistleblowers complaint was made public. Here is one of his tweets. Trump is withholding vital military aid to ukraine while his personal lawyer seeks help from the ukraine government to investigate his political opponent. It doesnt take a stable genius to see the magnitude of this conflict or how destructive it is to our National Security. What do you make of that . I think its really curious. We were told that the Congressional Committee didnt get this whistleblower complaint until september. But when you look at the complaints, which the president declassified and released last week, it was dated august 12th and it was addressed to adam schiff himself. So it certainly seems as if schiff knew a lot more about what was going on than he let on which raises some fairly serious and troubling questions whether he was part of this effort and perhaps even coordinating it long before anyone else knew what was going on. Steve hold on. You are saying you are concerned there could have been coordination between adam schiff and the Intel Community . I think its very much concerning that schiff, based on his own statements before these details were ever released seemed to be read in on them raises those questions and he and his entire staff and those in the Intel Community and in the white house who are part of this complaint need to start answering questions about that. I actually think a lot of students on campus a will agree with the general sentiment of my essay for a variety of reasons choose not to speak up. Im in a unique position where can i so i died to go aheadecided todo that. The climate strike was the most recent one. The climate strike happened on wednesday. Hunger strike happened in 2016. There has been sitins at the Investment Office and sitins at the Financial Aid office. It seems like there is kind of a new one every couple weeks. And. Brian faculty makes it worse by playing into it. I think its institutionalized to an extent. Not just the faculty. I would blame the faculty less blame the bureaucracy. A lot of institutions at yale the Cultural Center the latin american Cultural Center that encourage this type of behavior. And i think that is not unique to just yale but unique to private institutions. Large bureaucracies that kind of support this type of behavior. Ainsley you call it the protester derangement syndrome. Whats been the reaction since you wrote. This its actually been overwhelmingly positive. I havent had a Single Person reach out to me and Say Something negative. I think that goes to show that there is, you know, still some sense of rationality on these campuses but a lot of students choose not to speak up because of the backlash they are afraid to face. These people want to go at mach one speed to find the president guilty, let them proceed as fast as they want to because the quicker they get it done the quicker the American People will consider this to be a partisan investigation and not Something Worthy of their support. Second of all do what collins intimated, whenever there is a moment fairness would have dictated Something Else be done that would allow the minority, the republicans to have their say or to do something, point it out to the American People that they are simply not operating according to the rules. As a result, denying fundamental fairness to the president s defenders in the house of representatives and members of the House Intelligence Committee. Ainsley how does this all play out . Especially when it comes to the election next year . Look, i do think at the end of the day well have the house will impeach. They have already have democrats almost a majority of the house before the transcript was released who had said they had wanted to impeach the president. So they will impeach. The senate, i have yet to find a rational person says knowing what they know today there will be a 2 3 vote to impeach the president. Were back where we were with bill clinton. What happened back then, each side got a little bit of an advantage. On the democrat side it will help them in state like arizona or colorado or maybe in maine, maybe North Carolina or iowa. In the u. S. Senate races where youre in a state that is either in the case of most of those states, sort of a, evensteven state or a state like maine where there are more democrats than there are republicans. On the other hand it will hurt the democrats in those 31 seats that at the took from the republicans in 2018 that donald trump carried, particularly in the 19 seats he carried by 4 or more. There is a reason why a bunch of those 19 democrats who hold the seats are not coming out in favor of impeachment because they know it is unpopular back home. Both sides will see their bases energized for the fall election i think ends up like the kavanaugh hearing, surprise, surprise, the attacks on kavanaugh generated a greater level of enthusiasm among republicans. Brian steve youre in texas. Nancy pelosi was over the weekend the house would be worth losing if trump were impeached. We have a clip of her last night. She may get her wish. The house will impeach him. She may lose the house. Brian you know she doesnt mean night exactly.
