70s inland and get set for much, much warmer weather. chris. >> lisa, thank you. developing news out of san francisco. a mother and her young daughter are safe this morning but the search for them may have been connected to the investigation of a man well-known for being beaten by almeda county sheriffs deputy. abc7 news has the latest. >> reporter: police say 23-year-old dana rinta and her one-year-old daughter, scarlet, were found you unharmed. they were reported missing the same day that officers raided a home where they arrested stanislav petrov, who police say is her ex-boyfriend. you can see him handcuffed, led out of the house by the fbi and put in the back of a police car. >> we know at some point in time they were, and there is conversation that we want to have with her. >> investigators want to talk to rinta about him. petrov is also the man seen in this surveillance video. he's suing the almeda county sheriff's office after deputies were seen beating him last november. he led the police on a chase in a stolen car and now's back in custody facing federal prosecution. >> that was a federal investigation that we partnered with. it involves the fact that mr. petrov is not supposed to be in possession of firearms. >> i spoke with rinta's mother on the phone. she told me she does not know petrov and he's not scarlett's father. the mother and daughter were last seen in the balboa park neighborhood on march 14th. police won't say where they were found. a source says petrov is also the suspect in a domestic violence case. the victim, his ex-girlfriend, rinta. alyssa harrington, abc7 news. >> this afternoon, san leandro police are planning to provide more detrails about recent attacks by someone who has gone from shooting out windows to firing at people all with a bb gun. had last night detectives gave us these pictures showing a man holding a bb gun, as well as the car used in the crime. see someone firing a bb gun in this surveillance video captured in january. more than 120 cars have been damaged since december. that adds up to $60,000 in damage. in this video a window was shot out at an upholstery store on east 14th street. 6:03, the time. new details about a vandalism mystery in monterey. karen cummings provided this picture. it's the head from a statue. a girl found the head of the statue in breakwater cove yesterday afternoon. vandals knocked the head off at the presidio of monterey in october. someone else defaced a statue in november. >> there was a fire at a home on lakeview drive. this morning two people are recovering from smoke inhalation that gutted a home in bay point just before 6:00 last night. contra costa county fire protection district provided this footage. it took crews about 40 minutes to put out the fire on lakeview drive. firefighters believe the fire caused about $300,000 in damage. there was suspicious activity before the fire started. >>. >> in solano county, a man is accused of attacking and robbing two women on a hiking trail. the sheriff's office has released a sketch of the man. the attack happened a week ago friday afternoon in the cold canyon reserve. the women say he showed them a gun, attacked one of them and stole their money. they said the suspect spoke broken english with a heavy accent. a weekend skiing trip didn't happen for a group of san francisco, and you can see why. this facebook page photo shows their charter bus on fire yesterday morning. this happened along interstate 80. 40 students were evacuated from the bus. no one was hurt but some of their luggage was damaged. the students were put on a bus back to san francisco. at this point there's no word yet on what caused the fire. a group of teenagers from san francisco's bayview district are back home after a life-changing trip. it was all part of operation genesis, a program created by a san francisco police officer who also raised money for it. his mission is to enrich the lives of young people. lisa has the story. >> the first too greet to group of tired and weary travelers and san francisco police chief greg suhr. this was a trip full of firsts. the first time many used a passport. first tame most left home, and the first time ever truly seeing the world outside of the bay view. san francisco police officer jason johnson started operation genesis to give these kids a chance to change and grow. >> i realized they didn't really know about their culture, where they came from and the struggles they took and why they have the opportunities they have. >> we were there as the teenagers left their neighborhood for the eight-day long trip. while in ghana they donated supplies to schools, played with kids and spent time in villages. poverty was hard to ignore. >> you can be grateful for everything because not everybody has it like us. >> some it don't have shoes or nice clothes and out here we have everything and we can't even say hello to one another. >> a sense of gratitude and community are two things mike promises to build once he gets home because life in the bay view can be dark and lonely. >> i had to walk someone past him, and i could interact. usually they take offense to that but i want to bridge the gap between me and my neighbors. >> this 16 year old is starting with his own family and this african unity bowl. >> mike is the youngest of seven and has a brothner prison. he's sure his brother would have made different choices had he gone on this trip. now it's up to these twelve to show the bay view all that they have learned. lisa amin gulezian, abc7 house listings are controlled by hosts who break the law and list more than one property. the san francisco chronicle reports besides pledging to remove people who list more than one home for rent. >> only see on abc7. >> i was in shock. >> this parent said she never expected to get a call from her son saying he had been robbed inside a bart station. >> scared, traumatized. >> her twelve-year-old son talks about the chilling armed robbery that happened at the el~cerrito del norte station on friday about 6:00 p.m. he was coming home from his cousin's house when a man came from behind and told him to keep walking. we agreed not to show his face. >> then he put a gun to my head. -- to my waist. i didn't know what it was, but i looked down and saw the gun. >> the man ordered him to keep moving down the station stairway. >> he told me to stop where there wasn't cameras. so they couldn't see him. he reached in my pockets and felt my wallet. >> he said the suspenct then demanded his backpack. >> did you give him his backpack. >> no. >> what happened. >> i pushed him off. >> the suspect got away. >> where are the police? there's -- i know there's a police station at the bart station. >> bart police told us off-camera officers patrol station property, but are not always inside. police are investigating the the robbery and will review any security camera footage but at this point there are few leads. last year a gunman onboard a train shot a man. cameras may have been decoys and did not record the crime. meanwhile the suspect is at large. in the meantime this mom is glad her son was not hurt. >> we have to find another means of him traveling. >> his mom says so more bart trips for now. >> now to the case of a missing man from san mateo. michael schafer has been found dead in san francisco. police did not tell us how he died. he had been reported missing on monday and his family was concerned that he didn't have his medication. this morning we know a san diego roller derby player died in a freak plane crash on a freeway. a single engine plane landed on its belly open interstate 15 north of san diego and skidded some 250 feet before slamming into the back of a nissan ultima yesterday morning. the person was sitting in the back of the car and was killed immediately. five people were hurt, including the pilot and his passenger. >> nerve-racking seeing the plane come over the top of me and hit the road and slide and hit car. >> the plane's original owner is former new york yankee's catcher matt oaks who also played for the giants in the beginning of his career. he had the plane built from a kit. in a strange twist oaks made an emergency landing in the same plane on the same interstate 156 years ago. the plane will bestowed so the investigators can take a closer look what happened. alaska airlines could be close to buying out virgin america. the seattle-based company has bid $2 billion virgin. but jet blue could still outbit alaska and block the purchase. it flies to 23 airports in the united states and mexico. the deal is expected to face heavy scrutiny from regulators. governor brown will be in los angeles tomorrow to sign the landmark minimum wage deal. he said the plan to raise the minimum wage to $15 per hour proves california can help people get ahead. under the plan the wage increases to $10.50 next year and then goes up each year. to the top in 2022. he said it raises the wage in a responsible way and provides flexibility as economic conditions change. abalone hunters are hitting the water this weekend for the opening of the season. mild weather and surf suggests good conditions for the shellfish. but abalone hunting is dangerous because of the physical demands of strong waves and the tank less drive. the season starts in june and ends in october. a contra costa town is now there is color in the hair and faces on the clothing all to raise money for underprivileged children in india. the event has been going have fog in the north bay. 6:51 is the official sunrise. 7:35 it sets. we will be looking for not only the westerly wind but they get a bit stronger and the fog is not going to manage to clear everywhere. with you as we widen the perspective we have a couple areas of high pressure that will be building into california, allowing for big changes, warming up well above springtime average to above summer averages for tuesday and wednesday. today a weak system to the north allows for a slightly cool early air mass to enter the region. good morning, oakland, 52 for you. 54 mountain view. 55 san jose with 49 in morgan hill. half moon bay with 60 yesterday. 50 right now. and temperatures will be hard-pressed to make it out of the 50s at the coast today due to those breezy on-shore winds. 49 santa rosa and napa. fairfield and concord with 50 in novato. fog down to about a mile and a half in napa. three to four miles in santa rosa, petaluma and novato. livermore at 52 degrees. checking out the view from mt. tam. you see looking pretty good out there. but the marine layer is intact. afternoon temperatures will feel spring like but the pattern is more of a summer pattern and then it's going to really feel like fall on tuesday through thursday with an offshore flow. no fog at all. and extreme warmth around the bay. are so really going to mix things up day-to-day. it's all due to the winds. we are going to end the week on a soggy note. so we are looking at still high waves, six to seven feet in some spots from the sonoma county coast down through monterey. so that hasn't changed. but it will be cooler, gustier, cloudier at the coast. tomorrow a day of transition as the wind shifts to a northwesterly component. notice we will still warm up especially inland with upper 70s. but along the coast still 50s and 60s. that's monday. tuesday look what happens. 80s in the inland valleys. 83 concord, 7 of richmond and how about 77 in oakland? san francisco feeling pretty good. but by wednesday, yeah, we could see low 80s san francisco. even mid-80s oakland and some of these 80s in our east bay could be 90s. its hard to forecast that heat days in slaps. but looks like it's not going to break down too with quickly because on thursday it's still going to be warm. but it's friday w he get back to normal and some spring showers arrive right on through saturday. so that's certainly something to look forward to. high temperatures today around the bay. looking at low 70 ace. 68 redwood city, 356 san mateo. the breezier winds. daly city to san francisco. 62 there. 68 in calistoga. 67 in hayward. and you head inland still low 70s cop cord, san ramon. the accuweather seven day forecast. we are featuring not only spring like temperatures today and tomorrow but the winds it occasionally helps a big company. >> the latest poll for clinton and sanders in a dead heat. abc news, rothschild, wisconsin. >> with the critical wisconsin primary just two days away, presidential candidates john kasich and bernie sanders are discussing their campaign strategies and republican national committee chairman takes on the latest in the race for the white house. you can catch "this week" with george stephanopoulos later this morning on abc7. and the president is making plans for life after the presidency. he held a dinner at the white house to discuss what he might do next. the obama presidential center, museum and chicago will be built in chicago's south side neighborhood >> passenger flights at the brussels airport are set to resume today. the airport has been closed since terrorists detonated bombs there material nearly two weeks ago. new security measures will be in place, including scanning people and luggage before they can enter the airport. 35 people died at the airport and a subway station on march 2 the 2. delta airlines announced they will suspend their service from atlanta to brussels until march of next year. flight out of jfk as soon as the international terminal fully reopens. the airline also said they will reaccommodate anyone who has already booked their flights. >> and amazon founder jeff bszos said he successfully launched another rocket. some day blue origin hopes to use the rockets to carry passengers for face tourism with each rocket a lasting through one hundred launches. spacex is working on a similar project, but the falcon rocket goes farther and faster reaching orbit. the falcon 9 landed safely on the ground in december but they have yet to land a reusable rocket on an ocean platform. when fire destroyed a family's home a little girl lost her most prized possessions but thanks to one author who put out the call for help, a new chapter. abc news reporter cecilia vega has the story. >> the fire swept through the home and all her books destroyed. >> we kept saying it's going to be okay. it's going to be okay. >> a few days later an author came to her school and asked her to draw with them and gave her their picture to keep. she loved it. then he tweeted asking for books. saying let's send her some, and help came. from authors, illustrators, librarians and so many more. box after box of books. a delivery of hope. >> for her to see, okay, we lost our house, we lost all these things but look it?
