San Francisco Police tells us they are on heightened alert because of the bombings on the east coast. Thats why they shut down a oneblock radius here by this bus stop. They called in the bomb squad. The squad deployed a robot which was able to open the rice cooker and take a peek inside. This is closeup video of what it looked like after the bomb squad was done with it. It was empty inside. The Police Department will now review video from nearby surveillan surveillance chromoso surveillance cameras and muni buses to see if it was meveant a prank or a mistake. The proximity to a thrift store could indicate that perhaps it was left as a donated item and was maybe moved away from the donation collection area and placed unintentionally, if you will, in the bus stop. Reporter there was a press conference this afternoon where city leaders are appealing to the public for calm after several nights of violence here. This comes as new yorks chief prosecutor is asking the state bureau of investigations to now take a look a deeper look into the shooting death of 43yearold keith scott. Police chief telling us this afternoon he has no plans of releasing any video of the shooting to the public, which is why local officials are preparing for things to get much worse. A city on edge for a second night. Demonstrators in charlotte clash with police armed in riot gear using flash grenades, rubber bullets and tear gas to disperse the crowd. Protesters tossing canisters back at officers. They cant get in there. Its out of control. Reporter hundreds taking to the streits with signs protesting the death of 43yearold keith scott killed tuesday by police. There has to be a sense of accountability on all sides. Reporter overnight bombs sent demonstrators running for cover. At least one person critically wounded. There was blood. And there was a crowd of people. And i dont know if he is alive. The attacker shot a man and woman in their late 20s. One of the victims is still in critical condition. Neighbors living on bella drive heard gunshots before 10 00 last night. It happened fairly late. So there wasnt too many neighbors who were actually outside who saw what happened. But they did hear the shots. Now, we dont know too much about the suspects, but police do say they took off in a pickup truck after the shooting and its unclear if the shooter had any kind of relationship with the victims. There have been several rape cases reported at uc berkeley in recent weeks. Now an arrest. Theyve arrested a 25yearold man for raping a 19yearold student in her dorm three weeks ago. Police say the suspect did not know excuse me, did know the victim but no other details were provided. This marks the fifth rape case reported on campus just this month. This is a picture of the San Pablo Bay. You can see the skies are clear. The water, though, is not. Nor is the search for answers. The stench that sent dozens of people in the hospital with breathing problems and prompted hundreds of calls to 911 is still unanswered. The coast guard was inspecting the oil slick seen in San Pablo Bay yesterday. It could be to blame for the stench, some say. Authorities are looking at this tanker which was docked at the phillips refinery which they say could be the source of the spill. We dont know. There are a lot of unknowns. Dissipation is one possibility. If it was a lighter oil it could have evaporated. University police are investigating two separate incidents where someone posted a swastika and hate speech inside campus dormitories. I am hoping it is a joke, not a serious threat. Reporter daniel lives in Washburn Hall where students say last night someone created a swastika out of name tags, posted it on a hallway door and then moved it to a window inside a dorm room. Investigators wont say what the words said but say they targeted a specific group. He says its hurtful. People should be educated on how things like this are not a joke. People were actually hurt by this. Many families lost people in the holocaust. Reporter University Leaders sent the Campus Community a letter about the incident expressing sadness and anger. They are organized student meetings. Racism is not acceptable. I would say that this symbol is also antiantisemitic. Its not acceptable. Its a reality we deal with. Reporter the second found last night was on a white board inside a sevenperson suite at Campus Village c. Students who live there are feeling uneasy. It makes you feel a little bit awkward. Like, yeah. Because i mean, i am living with the people, and i dont know what they could think. You might recall another racially charged incident at san jose state back in 2013. Four students were suspended amidst allegations that they forced a bike lock around the neck of their black roommate and hung up a confederate flag. The allegations prompted protests all over campus. Ultimately the students were found guilty of battery but acquitted of height crimes. A Campus Task Force on Racial Discrimination was formed afterwards. Students and parents asked berkeley leaders to reinstate a teacher suspended in the wake of a violent confrontation. She was among ten people who were beat up when they confronted a group of neo nazis staging a sanctioned rally in sacramento. Following the rally the administration got threats that, if they did not fire Yvette Felarca students at the school could be harmed. Our need from having the chance to continue to teach students is not only silencing me but its silencing them, and i promise you you will not get away with it. Ever since school resumed last month felarca had been back in the classroom teaching but the board suddenly suspended her this week, not commenting why other than to say it is a personnel matter. A oakland Police Officer set up a go fund me page for the family of jeremiah asera. Thats already raised more than 15,000 for his family. The toddler died tuesday when he ran into the street to chase a ball and was hit by the transit bus. Its been a tragic week for students in the bay area. An accident in the Sierra Nevada took the life of a stanford grad student. She was killed sunday while climbing. She was 26 years old. She was a fourth year grad student studying immunology. She lost her footing and ended up falling more than 800 feet near bear week spire. Its the second tragedy. On monday reworted the death of a san jose state student who drowned in a lake east of fresno. Efforts now to improve relations between the community and police. Today Oakland Police debut a new substation thats a whole lot more than a police station. The substation is on high street at international boulevard, just a few blocks away from fremont high school. Oakland police say the station will be a place for kids to do homework and to work on computers alongside Police Officers. Opd says that this is a way for officers to interact with their community. Well, not so fast the nfl commissioner says the raiders possible move to las vegas may not be as close to the end zone as hoped. The governor of nevada says he intends to call lawmakers into a special session next month to consider a Public Financing plan for the new stadium. The United Nations said it was possible that countries backing the syria Peace Process would agree today to try to salvage the collapsed ceasefire. It is still working to restart peace talks. At least 40 of them filled with families and even some single tech workers. None can afford the rents anymore on the peninsula. Before i lived in an apartment. But its too expensive. We had a survey done of people who live in vehicles. There is a great deal of concern about just who are these people and what do they need.
