Reporter this surveillance picture from inside the safeway is the latest in the limited information known about an amber alert case. The case began just before 1 00 when a man was being carjacked in a red infiniti suv with california plate 6jsm648 after shoplifting lobster and steak at the safeway. Inside the vehicle according to witnesses a teenaged girl and older man. Hours later police backed off the assertion that it was an suv. We want everyone to look for a sedan. We have received information that the vehicle may be a sedan, as well. Reporter opd spokesman Joanna Watson maintains the plate information is good. It could be the plate had been switched. Its difficult to say at this time. But we definitely want to make the key point on the license plate. Reporter the case happens that the typical pattern of an amber alert there has been no victim name given it no photo because of this fact. At this time nobody is reported missing to fit the occupants of the vehicle. Reporter by nightfall opd officers chased down a half dozen alleged sightings of the vehicle. All turned out to be bogus. Here is that license number again the car is a red sedan. There are some questions about whether this is really a kidnapping since no one has been reported missing. But Oakland Police say they are treating this as an abduction unless its proven otherwise. And some developing news right now. A manhunt under way in South San Francisco after Police Spotted a shooting suspect in the bay sprue last night. The suv bayview last night. The suv sped away with police following. It crashed near 101 and 380. The driver was arrested but the shooting suspect and two others fled. Police say they found a number of guns inside the suv. A u. P. S. Driver has survived a case of very bad timing. He drove right into the middle of a gang shootout in oakland. He told his story to christin ayers, something youll only see right here on kpix 5. Reporter police say the shootout started at this liquor store and then continued down the block. Thats when the u. P. S. Driver told us he rounded the corner at the worst possible moment. When i was at the window and saw the Delivery Driver going down the street, he was driving into the fire. You cant stream, say stop or anything scream, say stop, or anything like that. You knew something bad was going to happen. Reporter the u. P. S. Driver spoke to kpix 5 exclusively and asked that we hide his identity and disguise his voice. He said at first, he didnt know what the popping sound he heard was. Thought i heard firecrackers and it wasnt firecrackers. Reporter it was gunfire. The driver says bullets started whizzing by as at least one person opened fire into a passing car. The only thing the driver could do was take cover. He backed his delivery truck up, jumped out and ran. By the time police arrived, someone had ransacked the delivery truck stealing two packages, a cell phone and the drivers backpack. When it gets to that point where you cant even do your daily job, thats terrible. Thats almost embarrassing to say youre from oakland.
