Happening now, terminal 3 at lax remains closed at this hour. This morning the suspect, a 23 yearold is in the hospital in Critical Condition. Reportedly shot four times including in the mouth and leg. Investigators say that he walked into the terminal yesterday morning, took a rifle out of a bag and opened fire. One tsa Security Officer was killed, three others wounded and two people were hurt as they ran from the scene. A cop from outside started yelling, hit the floor and there were kids crying and people freaking out. Reporter the tsa officer killed has been identitied as 39yearold g era ldo hear nan dez. He has been with the agency since 2010 and is the first tsa officer killed in the line of duty. Investigators say they found a note on the suspect which he reportedly said he expected to die in a shoot out. He was upset at the former homeland secretary. He also accused the tsa of violating his rights. Fall out is still being felt at air ports nationwide. We are live at sfo this morning with the Flights Canceled. Reporter i just spoke to the airport duty manager here at San Francisco international. He said things are starting to get back to normal though there are still canceled flights to deal with. He said three flight that were supposed to arrive from lax have been canceled. One that was scheduled to depart at 6 30 has also been scrapped. An Oakland Airport the duty manager said that delta has canceled its first two flights from oakland to lax and we are waiting to hear at other impacts. Virgin america is one of six airlines that departs from terminal 3 in la. Thats the terminal where yesterdays shooting happened. They have been affected and some of the pipings here are trying to find other ways to get to their destinations. Because the scotch the investigation into this scope of the investigation other flights are also impacted. Two were canceled last night. Several oakland southwest Flights Canceled and in san jose, officials canceled nine flights, nearly a third of their la bound flights. Passengers here and at san jose rushed to find another way to travel. My only oposition is to try to book a flight tomorrow basically. There is one option which was to fly to san diego and try to take a train but trying to avoid that. Berkeley police are vepghting another robbery on campus. The latest happened around 11 00 thursday night in a big grassy area known as the faculty glaid. The 18yearold was walking when the suspect grabbed her. He showed a gun and took her cell phone. Another man then grabbed her purse. Police are now warning students to be on alert. Officers say last month five others were robbed on campus. Police are telling students to walk with friends and call police if you need help. The Oakland Police department is vepghting a shooting investigating a shooting that left a person in Critical Condition. So far no description of the gunman. A 3yearold is in the hospital after falling out of a second story window. It happened last night around 5 30 on summer tree drive. It appears the child pushed the screen from the window and then fell onto a backyard walkway. The child was flown with his mother by helicopter to oakland childrens hospital. At this point police will only say the child may have serious injuries. A boy who suffered serious injuries after being hit by a truck while trying or treat trick or treating will have surgery. He was crossing the street on halloween night when he and his cousin were hit by a small truck. The 13yearold cousin is recovering at home from a broken shoulder but he is sedated at the hospital. The accident fractured both of his legs. You see a child with tubes coming out of his mouth where you have him just eyes closed, its unbearable. The driver said he didnt see the boys. The crosswalk has been the scene of several crashes including one that killed a woman. This latest accident has residents renewing pressure to improve liepghting at that location. Happening today you may see police and fire trucks near the train tracks in redwood because of a drill. Its happening on an unused portion of track at middle field and wood side roads. Caltrains and Law Enforcement agencies will practice how to respond to a rail mernly. The drill starts at 7 30 and will end at five tonight. Traffic and Train Service should not be disrupted. Later today thousands of people are expected to attend a day of the dead celebration in San Franciscos mission district. Its a mexican holiday that celebrates lives of those who have died. People upset about a plan to limit off leash areas for dogs in the golden gate area will hold a march and rally this morning. They plan to walk from the field to fort mason at 11. They say they are upset about a proposal that would restrict areas where dogs can run free. A woman is recovering after eating a piece of candy that may have been laced with ls d. She said the snickers bar was given to her 16monthold while they were out trick or treating. The suspected gunman, a 23year old had sent a text to his family, to new jersey early yesterday telling them he was thinking about taking his life. Dan simon live at lax with the latest on the story. Reporter hey. Dont have much of a motive at this point. We know this is someone who seemed to have Anti Government views. He had some information on him that quoted the new world order. Also someone that seemed to have quite a hatred toward tsa employees and seemed to be directing his anger toward those tsa agents and thats why he took that rifle out and fired all those shots. As you can imagine a lot of passengers left their belongings behind just dropped them and hit the exit. So people are eager to get their stuff. The ticket counter is open so people can go in and buy tickets and ask questions of employees but all of the Airline Traffic is being sent to other terminals. Several flights have been canceled including Virgin America canceling a 6 45 a. M. Flight from sfo to los angeles and two more flights san jose to lax. Last night a group of High School Musicians boarded a bus to lax after their flight from jfk was diverted to san jose. They had just preformed in new york and why supposed to land were supposed to land if terminal three. We didnt think it was Good Opportunity of us that we fly to san jose. I actually was supposed to catch on earlier flight and i fell asleep at the gate. I was actually going to be at that terminal probably around that same time. Nine flights were canceled and thats about a third of its daily flights to lax. The orchestra eventually arrived just about eight hours after it was supposed to land. At eight we will go to sfo with the update on the flight delays. With very we have 911 calls from a nursing home where the residents were abandoned. Is she awake . Yeah. Okay. Is she breathing . Yes. She is breathing. Vepghtors say more than a dozen patients were left in that nursing home when the state revoked its license on october 24th. A cook and janitor were the only staff who stayed to help. They called the police a couple of times including once to report on the condition of several patients. Eight people are recovering from smoke inhalation after a vehicle fire inside the tunnel. We want to show you the video in the number one bore. You can see people carrying out their belongings. Very smoky event to try to escape that fire. Many Young Children had to be carried to safety by paramedics. The biggest danger was the smoke inhalation from the fumes of the car. Luckyly the tunnel has a complex ventilation system. The caltrans spokesman said the tunnel Safety System seems to have worked well with no major issues. They are working on safety upgrades for the three existing bores. Yesterdays fire in the tunnel may have brought back memories of the deadly tanker fire in 1982. Seven were killed in that fire. As a result many safety features were put into place including that ventilation system. Cameras and external warning signs. Lessons learned then also contributed to the 4th bore which will open in two weeks. The investigation in to the beating of a man is being put on hold on september 20th david lamont went outside his home to ask a group of teenagers to quiet down. Police say when he did not come back his wife went outside and found him unconscious in the street. Officers say he out of a coma but still cant talk. They are waiting to see what he remembers before continuing the investigation. They have interviewed four teenagers who were at the scene but no arrests have been made. Oakland police are searching for a teen they say robbed an 11yearold boy at gun point. It happened at about 7 30 yesterday morning on 19th avenue. They say he was last heard from on monday when he called his family to say he was being followed in the mission district. Police say that he made that phone call around 11 00 p. M. On tuesday voters in San Francisco will decide on a controversial plan for a coppedo project along the waterfront. If if passes two condo buildings will be built at wash. Supports say it would create a new Waterfront Park and hundreds of jobs, opponents say it would block views and create luxury housing few people can afford. Happening now, terminal 3 at lax remains closed at this hour following that deadly shooting rampage at the airport. This morning the 23yearold is in the hospital in critical did not. He was reportedly shot four times including in the mouth and leg. Investigators say he walked in to the terminal yesterday, took out a rifle, out of a bag and opened fire. One tsa officer was killed. Three others wounded. Two other people were hurt as they ran from that scene. A cop from outside started yelling hit the floor, and so everybody hit the floor and there were tons of kids crying and people freaking out. The tsa officer killed has been identitied as a 39year old g era ldo hernandez. He is the first tsa officer to be killed in the line of duty. The head of that agency plans to pleat with his family later today. Investigators found a note on the suspect where he reportedly said he expected to die in a shoot out. He was also upset at the former homeland secretary. His note also accuses the tsa of violating his rights the effect of that shooting is still being felt nationwide. Flights have been delayed by a couple of hours. For many hours los angeles isnt their final destination. They had connecting flights. The delays and canceled flights have made it hard for them to find other flights to get to those international destinations. We are supposed to fly to can cancun. There are a lost people ahead of us that have been canceled. We are trying to look for other options. Reporter most of the passengers we have talked to seem to be understanding of the situation and they expressed their sympathies for what happened with that shoot expght person killed at lax yesterday. There are six airlines that depart from terminal three out of lax where that shooting took place. Virgin america, australia, frontier, spirit and allegian. The duty manager said delta has canceled two of its morning flights to the Los Angeles Area. We are still waiting to hear back from san jose officials about the impact there. Live at sfo. Police have not released information about what led up to that shooting and so far no description of the gunman. A 3yearold is in the hospital this morning after falling out of a second story window. It happened last night around 5 30 on summer tree drive. It appears that the child pushed the screen from the window and then fell. The child was flown with his mother by helicopter to oak the Oakland Hospital the Oakland Hospital. A boy will have surgery after being hit by a truck while trick or treating. He was crossing the street on halloween night when he and his cousin were hit by a small truck. The 13yearold cousin is recovering at home with a broken shoulder. The little boy remains sedated. The accident fractured both his legs. You see a child with tubes coming out of his mouth, where you have, you know, him just eyes closed, just its unbearable. The driver said he didnt see the boys and police say he has been cooperating the investigation. The crosswalk where the accident happened has been the scene of several crashes including one in july that killed a 68yearold woman. The latest accident has residents renewing pressure on leaders to improve lighting and visibility. An animal trainer at six flags is recovering after being bitten by a sea lion. She said she was bit on the leg yesterday afternoon. She was treated and given a tetanus shovment the park was closed at the time. The sea lion is ten and has been at the park for four years. Its still unclear why it attacked her. Six flags said the park will open today as usual. Happening now police and fire trucks along the train tracks in redwood but its all a drill. We are learning more about the man suspected of going on a rampage at los angeles international. Investigators have identitied him as a 23yearold. He had lived in the philadelphia area before moving to california. He had sent a text to his family in new jersey yesterday morning saying he was thinking of taking his own life. Investigators believe he went and targeted tsa agents killing one guard and wounding three. I went kind of and hid in a corner and the shooter was just calmly walking down the corridor, he saw me there, he had his gun and he looked at me and he said tsa . I just shook my head. He kept going. The tsa officer killed was a 39yearold, a father of two children. He is the first tsa officer killed in the line of duty. Airports all across the country are being impacted by the terminal closure at lax including here in the bay area. So far at least four flights in and out of San Francisco international have been canceled and security is being increased. We are live there this morning. She has been talking to passengers about the alternate plans. Reporter some airlines appear to be more impacted than others. Virgin operates in and out of terminal three. Thats where the shooting happened as you said its still closed. So most of the canceled flights appear to be with Virgin America. We are in front of the ticket counter where we talked to many trying to find other ways to get to their destinations. I also heard back from the manager in san jose. They said two Virgin American flights have also been canceled. This is bay area wide the impact. For many los angeles isnt even their final destination. They have connecting flights through lax onto asia and latin america. Most of the passengers we talked to say they were understanding of the situation. They say they were sorry about the tsa agent who was killed yesterday and they acknowledge that a Homicide Investigation is not something that the airlines can control. Our flight to cambodia leaves at 12 noon. They are doing as much as they can. They cant can cant help it. Go with the flow. Now along with Virgin America some of the other airlines that operate out of terminal 3 are virgin australia, jetblue, frontier, spirit and allegiant air. As far as Oakland Airport the airport managers there said this morning that airport has on delta two of their flights to la have been canceled out of Oakland Airport. This morning eight people are recovering from smoke inhalation after the vehicle fire inside the tunnel. Want to show you video showing what it looked like yesterday morning in the number one bore. You can see people carrying out their items as they navigate through the heavy smoke and trying to escape the fire from inside. Many Young Children also had to be carried to safety by paramedics. The biggest danger was the smoke inhalation from the fumes of the car. Fortunately we have a complex ventilation system in the tunnel. A spokesman said the tunnels Safety System seems to have worked well. They are now working on safety upgrades for the three existing bores. Those plans are expected to be done over the next year. Yesterdays fire may have brought back memories of the deadly fire inside one of them in 1982. Seven people were killed in that as a result many safety features were then put into place including the ventilation system, surveillance cameras and external warning signs. Caltrans said Lessons Learned in that disaster also contributed to the design of the 4th bore which is set to open just about go weeks. Ktvu has 911 calls the Castro Valley nursing home where investigators say the residents were abandoned and forced to fend their theption. Is they awake . Yeah. Is they breath is she breathing . Yes. Reporter investigators say more than a dozen patients were left inside the nursing home when the state revoked its license on october 24th. A cook and janitor were the only staff who stayed behind to help out. They called the police a couple of times including to report on the condition of the patients. The investigation into the september beating of a 51year old man is being put on hold. On september 20th david lamont went outside his home to ask a group of teenagers to quiet down. Police say when he didnt come back his wife went outside and found him unconscious in the street. Police say he woke up from a coma but is still unable to talk. They are waiting to see what he remembers before continuing the investigation. Police say they have interviewed four teenagers at the scene but no arrests have been made. Oakland police are searching for a teen they robbed an 11yearold at gun point. It happened yesterday on 19th avenue. The boy was walking to school when the armed teenager confronted him. Police say the teenager demand the boys phone phone but ended up stealing his five dollars. The knuckle head part of that is bafling. Police say the suspect is a African American boy with blue braces, he is about 15, 58 with a skinny build. And new developments in the case of a teenager shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy. The parents of the 13yearold andy lopez say they plan to file a federal civil lights lawsuit on monday. They claim the deputy shot and killed lopez without reasonable cause. The boy was shot while carrying a bb gun that looked like a rifle. The family has also filed three wrongful death claims, the county has 45 days to respond to them. San Francisco Police are look for a man who was visiting the city from los angeles. They say he was last heard from ono monday when he called his family to say he was being followed in the mission district. Police say that he made that phone call around 11 00 p. M. He is 22, six feet tall, 180 pounds with brown hair and eyes. He speaks english and was carrying a dark pack pack and i phone 5. Anyone with information about his disappearance is asked to call police. On tuesday voters in San Francisco will decide on a controversial plan for a condo project on the citys waterfront. If the proposition passes, two condo buildings with 134 units will be built at washington. Supporters say it would create a new Waterfront Park and hundreds of jobs but opponents say it would block views and create luxury housing, few people can afford. It was just about 24 hours ago when 23yearold suspect Paul Anthony Ciancia allegedly took an Assault Rifle out of a bag and opened fire. Investigators say he only shot at tsa agents killing one and wounding three others. Two civilians were hurt as they ran from the scene. A cop from outside started yelling, hit the floor. So everyone hit the floor. There was tons of kids crying and people freaking out. The tsa officer killed was 39yearold gerardo hernandez, the first tsa agent killed in the line of duty. The head of the agency will meet with his family today. Paul Anthony Ciancia is hospitalized in Critical Condition reportedly shot four times including in the mouth and leg. Investigators are found a note on had him accusing the tsa of violating his rights. The Ripple Effect of that shooting is being felt across the nation at airports all across the country. The same airline scrapped two of its flights that were scheduled it to depart from san jose to lax this morning. All morning it was pretty busy as many pass jerpz trying to find alternate ways to get to their destination. Virgin america operates out of terminal three at lax. Thats where the shooting happened. That terminal is still closed because of the investigation. For many passengers los angeles isnt even their final destination. People told us they had connecting flights through lax to asiana and latin america. Most passengers said they were very understanding of the situation. They were sorry to hear are about the tsa agent who was killed and know that a Homicide Investigation is not something an airline can control. Many passengers say its been stressful trying to rearrange travel plans. I was on the phone until almost midnight. The people on the phone were doing overtime, too. Its ridiculous. We were supposed to fly to cancun today. Theyre trying. The best theyre able to do is probably tomorrow. Theres a lot of people ahead of us that have been cancelled. An airport in oregon is making a cost cutting move by hiring a private security firm. The Rogue Valley International medford airport just signed a contract with the company.
