Cooperation finds itself instilled with new energy. Friends, similarly, in the area of new emerging technologies, india and u. S. Partnership has attained a new level in terms of innovation and enter prize. In the fields of industry, 4. 0 and of the new technologies of the 21st century. The talent of indian professionals has reinforced u. S. Companies technological leadership. India and the United States are committed to openness and fair economic sector. And it has also become whether it is civil aircraft or over the last four or five years, these four sectors have contributed 20 billion to the relationship between india and the u. S. A lot of this is due to the policies and the diligence of President Trump. Im fully confident that in the years to come this will further grow. As far as bilateral trade is concerned, our summit has had very positive discussions. President trump and i, we have both agreed that our that the understanding coming to these terms will take it forward to give it a we are also we also agreed to initiate negotiation for a bigger deal. We are confident that this deal will result in our mutual interests. Friends, cooperation between india and the u. S. At the global level is founded on our common Democratic Values. Especially in the indopacific region and others. Both of our countries agree on the importance of sustainable and transparency in the development of connectivity infrastructure across the world. This Mutual Understanding and synergy between us, not just our countries, but the world at large. A special friendship between india and the United States about peopletopeople relations, whether it is as professionals or students, it has contributed the most these are not only contributing to the u. S. Economy through their talent and hard work, theyre also instilling the American Society with their Democratic Values and rich culture. Ive requested President Trump that the contributions of our officials in terms of Social Security should be discussed further with the framework of a cooperation agreement. A mutual interest for both of us. President trump has played an historic role in strengthening our relationship. Once again, i wish to express my heartfelt thanks to President Trump for coming here and taking u. S. Relations to new heights. Thank you. Well, thank you very much. And Prime Minister modi, this has been a very special visit. Unforgettable, extraordinary. What can you say . Very, very wonderful to be with you. Thank you very much. And melania and i have been awed by the majesty of india and the exceptional kindness and generosity of the indian people. Well always remember the magnificent welcome the citizens of your home state showed us upon arrival. It was a profound expression of strength and of real love. Really, it was love, and i think everybody saw that, everybody witne witnessed that for themselves. The first lady and i also reflected on the memory of Mahatma Gandhi at his ashram. This morning in delhi, we laid a wreath in his honor. We visited one of your countrys most stunning cultural treasures, the world famous taj mahal. We look forward to continuing our visit tonight with a state dinner with the president at the palace. I know Prime Minister modi will agree this has been a very productive visit for both of our countries. Earlier today we expanded our defense cooperation with agreements for india to purchase more than 3 billion of advanced American Military equipment including apache and romeo helicopters, the finest in the world. As our militaries continue to train and operate side by side. In our discussions, Prime Minister modi and i affirmed our two countries commitment to protecting our citizens from radical islamic terrorism. In this effort, the United States is always working productively with pakistan to confront terrorists who operate on its soil. Together, the Prime Minister and i are revitalizing the Quad Initiative with the United States, india, australia and japan. Since i took office, we have held the first quad ministerial meeting, i guess you would call it a meeting, but it seems like so much more than that, and expanded cooperation on counterterrorism, Cyber Security and Maritime Security to ensure a free and open indopacific as we deepen our partnership with india. We remember that our two countries have always been united by shared traditions of democracy and constitutions that protect freedom, individual rights and the rule of law. During our visit, we discussed the importance of a secure 5g Wireless Network and the need for this emerging technology to be a tool for freedom, progress, prosperity, not to do anything where it could be even conceived as a conduit for suppression and censorship. To guarantee that the infrastructure of the future is built in a safe, transparent and accountable manner, the United States is working with a range of partners, including australia and japan, to create the blue dot network, a Major Initiative to ensure countries around the world to have access to private sector led, sustainable and trustworthy options for highquality infrastructure development, and thats whats happening. Another major focus of my discussions with Prime Minister modi is forging bilateral economic relationships that are fair and reciprocal. Our teams have made tremendous progress on a comprehensive trade agreement, and im optimistic we can reach a deal that will be of great importance to both countries. Since i took office, u. S. Exports to india are up nearly 60 . And exports of highquality American Energy have grown by thank you very much 500 . Thats great. As india grows, so do its energy needs. Yesterday exxon mobil signed a deal to improve indias Natural Gas Distribution networks so that the u. S. Can export even more lng to india. We are pleased to be joined by the chairman of exxon mobil, lng Market Development alex volcof. Thank you, alex, where you may be. Thank you very much, alex. And the ceo of chart energy and chemicals. Thank you very much. Thank you both. Thank you, jillian. Thank you very much. Thats a big deal, alex, right . Can you handle it . I think so, right . Its great. To further strengthen our economic ties, the United States is pleased to announce that the u. S. International Development Finance corporation will be establishing a permanent presence right here. Americas especially committed to working with india to improve development and empower women entrepreneurs. That is why my daughter ivanka attended the Global Entrepreneurship summit inna e have since launched the initiative now spear heading projects supporting women in the economy from new delhi to colcota. In our meetings with the Prime Minister, we discussed and agreed to create a Counternarcotics Working Group to confront the growing threat of elicit fentanyl and opiate production. We must rid our societies of these lethal, horrible poisons. We will rid our societies of these bad drugs that are pouring in. Prime minister modi, we have made tremendous advances for our people over the past two days, and working together, i know that our two nations will continue to achieve new breakthroughs, unlock new potential and forge even brighter futures in the years ahead. We think were at a point where our relationship is so special with india. It has never been as good as it is right now, and i think thats because the two leaders of each country, really, we feel very strongly about each other, and we have we have done something thats very unique and weve made some wonderful deals for each of our countries. Once again, we want to thank you and the entire nation of india for honoring the United States with its outstanding welcome, and im pleased to say that the u. S. Indian Partnership is now truly stronger than ever before. This was a great visit with a tremendous friend and a tremendous leader, Prime Minister modi. We wont be taking questions now. Ill be having a News Conference at 5 00 and well take plenty of questions. Thank you all very much. Thank you. Thank you. This concludes the presentation. That is President Trump, of course, speaking with Prime Minister narendra modi, describing it as an extraordinary visit, a magnificent spectacle. And described his rally attended by more than 100,000 people as, quote, love. He and the first lady have visited the taj mahal. They paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi. He mentioned various trade and military and business deals, as well as efforts to fight terrorism. Lets go back to our Kelly Odonnell who is in india. Kelly, i guess no surprises in the speech here. Reporter and no real headlines. These were the kinds of outlines of the meetings that we anticipated, and in part this seems to be a desire by Prime Minister modi not to have an opportunity for questions. That was clear, and the president certainly signalled that by saying hes going to have his own News Conference later. Often when a u. S. President is with an ally in a democracy, there would be a push to have questions from both press corpss, the indian press corps as well as the u. S. There will be a chance for american reporters to talk to President Trump later, but it is notable that indian reporters who have been following this were not given that opportunity. Now, separate from the trump visit, there has been some violence and unrest in this area in the last couple of days. Unrelated to the trump visit, but part of an indian policy that is dealing with immigration. Thats another area where President Trump and Prime Minister modi have some significant overlap in their interests politically. The circumstances and the particulars are different, but making immigration an important issue is something that both have talked about in their political lives. So the violence is certainly something that Prime Minister modi would not want to talk about. Including the death of a Police Officer with some protests related to that immigrationrelated policy that is discriminatory towards muslims who are trying to seek entrance into india from neighboring countries. One of the messages the u. S. Has tried to send on this trip, although if you werent wellread in on that, you wouldnt have necessarily picked up on it, where the president talked about tolerance today as well as in his speech before the huge crowd at the cricket stadium is concern that the u. S. Has about religious freedom and about tolerance in a society that is democratic. Certainly this is a predominantly hindu nation, but there is a substantial, although minority population of muslims, and theyre in a neighborhood in the world where the muslim faith is certainly prominent, and so any perception of discrimination against muslims is a concern to u. S. Policy. I know that might sound striking when you consider that the president has also tried to put a ban in effect on trade from certain countries that are muslim dominant to the u. S. , but still, u. S. Policy is not in favor of that. So we did get a sense of the relationship, the friendship of the two countries, and some some of the topic areas on the bos n business side of this meeting, the twoday visit to india. As the day progresses, im sure well come back with the president conducts his own press conference. Kelly odonnell, thank you so much for us. Nonetheless, the president longtime trump buddy and associate roger stone. Nonetheless, the president nominated her for a top sanctions job in the treasury department. Then about two weeks ago the president abruptly yanked her nomination. At the time it was unclear exactly why he changed his mind, but now the story is being filled in. Axios reports that shortly before withdrawing the nomination, the president reviewed a memo of her alleged misdeeds that had been prepared by a group of outside conservative activists including ginnie thomas. If that name rings a bell, she happens to be the wife of Supreme Court Justice Clarence thomas. This group is waging a kind of purge against officials they see as insufficiently pro trump. Their reasons for wanting this u. S. Attorney gone are deeply unnerving. They include not acting on criminal referrals on some of Justice Brett kavanaughs accusers. Signing asking for jail time for flynn. And adjusting the information. The motives are the people advising them and purging perceived enemies are precisely as corrupt and authoritarian as we feared. Im joined now by Washington Post Investigative Reporter carol leonnig, coauthor of the book a very stable genius. Carol, this has been a subplot of the administration from the beginning. I want to say that a president should have people that he trusts and is loyal to. But whats going on here seems different than anything ive ever encountered before. For us, too. I have to say, chris, the last two weeks have been really shocking in terms of what we expect about a Justice Department and the u. S. Attorneys office in the district of columbia is a part, a very important part of the Justice Department. The idea that it should be without fear of favor and blind and objective, and in this case you have people who have a very vested interest in some of the plaintiffs who appeared before this forgive me, the suspects that appeared before this court trying to whisper in the ear of the president that this this group of prosecutors went too hard on these individuals, and, therefore, this u. S. Attorney should be bounced from any future jobs. And in case barbara ladine is a close associate of Michael Flynns. Has a very vested interest. That shouldnt be the controlling opinion, necessarily. Im very Close Friends with the flynns, the ladines are and her husband cowrote a book with Michael Flynn. They were there for his sentencing that did not go as expected when judge sullivan said Michael Flynn would likely do jail time and was not convinced they should proceed with the sentencing at that time until he had seen all of his cooperation. He basically accused Michael Flynn of selling out his country, which shocked all of Michael Flynns allies in the room. They expected something quite contrary, but your point about the purge is really something striking because here you have secret memos written under dark of night shared with the president , almost like a whisper, trying to in a mccarthylike way tell you about how somebody isnt trustworthy enough. Jessie liu has a reputation of being a pretty solid prosecutor who didnt exactly, you know, go against the president s wishes. She was a political appointee who served him, and he or shes being cast aside as somebody who wasnt hard enough on the president s enemies. Theres also one of the more worrying aspects to me, and thats my editorializing here, its just the nature of barr in all of this. It seems that barr is kind of of a type with some of the folks like the guinea thomainnie thom barbara ladines, he feels hes a warrior on the president s behalf current and former justice officials describe an attorney general who doesnt rhode island take advice and prone to rightwing conspiracies he reads on fringe conservative sites on the internet. And honestly, that makes sense of a lot of his behavior, to be honest. You know, cant be in bill barrs head, but there are some actions hes taken that tell you he is the president s lawyer and an ardent supporter, you know, the most classic example was what he did very soon after becoming attorney general, his fourmajor memo right. Explaining that the president had been exonerated. There was nothing to see here when, in fact, there was plenty to see here. This current moment, though, strikes me as something where barr is actually feeling the heat. Interesting. 2,000 more than 2,000 Justice Department alums are now rattling their sabers and saying were worried about the integrity, the appearance of corruption within the Justice Department. We want everyone to presume this body is above yeah. Political maneuvers and were worried. Now barr is having to answer for some of that. Thats a really interesting point. I hadnt quite heard it that way. Carol leonnig, thank you for being with me. The president s attempts to downplay the risks of the coronavirus to help his own election. Well talk about what the United States should be doing, after this. So, today, the Dow Jones Industrial average dropped over 1,000 points on fears of what could be a Global Pandemic in the making. When the coronavirus first appeared there were hopes it could be contained within china. There are confirmed cases in countries across the world, iran, italy, south korea, japan, and the u. S. , among others. It is unclear how much this will spread and also how deadly it will be. It is also unclear what the u. S. Is doing to prepare. In the midst of the outbreak, the Trump Administration put out a budget calling for aggressive cuts to the centers for Disease Control and prevention. The state Department Also apparently contravened the cdc on the evacuation of 14 americans from a cruise ship docked in japan. They were infected with the coronavirus and they were put on the same planes as uninfected passengers. There is little indication of what the government is planning to do if the virus spreads in the United States, which seems increasingly likely. The Washington Post reported last week that trump has, quote, told advisers he does not want the administration to do or say anything that would further spook the markets. He remains worried that any largescale outbreak could hurt his reelection bid. Here to talk about what we should we doing, where we are in this, people saying the sort of genies out of the bottle. Whats the distinguiction there . Is the new virus lethal and spreading from person to person . Thats an epidemic when it starts to spread within a country. When it crosses National Borders is when we think about a pandemic, already done. Right. Why the World Health Organization is delaying this designation is not clear. Probably politics. The other hand, calling it a pandemic raises the level of fear and anxiety and affects the Global Economic markets and all of that. But it also really drives attention on trying to solve this problem. And we really do have some major problems right now. I saw ron klain, the ebola czar, and i think you were advising him during all of that. Look, all the measures taken so far are to buy time. Yeah. Its sort of gotten out of china. Were using the time to do what. What should we be doing . One, make sure we have an effective test that can be distributed worldwide. A couple of weeks ago our own cdc distributed defective tests. They had to bring them all back. There is no timeline when theyre going to send out appropriate kits. Thats number one. We dont have a comprehensive test that is available . We have it in tiny quantities, but the states dont have it, cdc has it. Gotcha. We need the vaccine to prevent this disease. Were nine to 12 months from getting that done, which is obviously a real problem. The third thing is, people are working on this, we dont have a specific antiviral medication. We talked about tamiflu for the bird flu. All of the treatment for severely ill people is quote, unquote, supportive. You go in a hospital bed, may get a mechanical ventilator. And get ivs. Things like that. The underlying issue that is really causing us big problems right now is the reporting of this illness, especially out of china where it originally started has been abysmal. So weve had now spread across many countries. I dont know which countries are actually putting out believable, reliable information. Certainly not china. Thats been a big problem. There was news today of iran and a legislator in iran said 50 people died in a city that has a lot of pilgrims in it, a lot of migrants. Its unclear whether that number is true, again, we dont know, this is what a legislator said. That would indicate there is a big problem in iran. So imagine if Northern Syria in the midst of all of this violence and disruption had an outbreak of coronavirus, which could actually happen, their health care and Public Health systems are devastated there. We could have problems that we cant even dream about right now. So we have a lot to worry about, and i actually do hope it is declared a pandemic as it actually is so we can really up the ante on how fast were doing things. Ive heard some people say, well, look, its just like the flu, you know, its the strain of something a flulike virus. The flu kills 30,000 americans every year, which is a shocking number. Theres no reason to panic here. At the same time, people saying, like, i think the world is sleeping on this a little bit. Well, its kind of a weird combination of those two extremes, ending up in very confused understanding of what people should actually do about it. My sons fatherinlaw will not travel to visit his grandchildren in, you know, from San Francisco to los angeles. Theres all kinds of decisions people are making without much reliable information. What does so much, though, is for the president to come out blithely saying everything is under control, nothing to worry about here, move on. I think thats wrong. We need to find a balanced approach to communicating honestly about what were actually dealing with and that does not mean panic. Try telling that to the Financial Markets who are, in fact, panicking at the moment. Well see what happens with that. Theyve been the most panicked from the beginning. Thanks very much. Coming up, making sense of the freak out offer the Bernie Sanders surge. My panel will join me at this table. Plus, guys, thing one, thing two is back. Did you miss it . Stick around. Its coming up next. Hi guys. This is the Chevy Silverado with the worlds first invisible trailer. Invisible trailer . And its not the trailer right next to us . This guy . You dont believe me . Hop in. Good lookin pickup, i will say that. Oh wow. Silverado offers an Optional Technology package with up to 15 different views including one enhanced view that makes your trailer appear invisible. Wow. Thats pretty sweet. Thats cool. Oooohh thats awesome. Whered the trailer go . I love it. Its magic. Thing one tonight, donald trump is in india this week spending a very quick two days in the Worlds Largest democracy to meet with Prime Minister modi and work toward a trade deal. The president has taken in some of the sites. Here he is visiting gandhis former Home Learning how to spin cot. Here is trump and melania outside the taj mahal. As someone noted, the one he didnt bankrupt. Its been 30 years since he opened his spectacularly failed Atlantic City casino with help from friends. On that day, it seemed the beloved gloved one ranked ninth. 70,000 fans nearly swept away ella mcpherson, but they didnt stop the casino taking 2 million for the day. That didnt last. Within a year, the taj mahal filed to bankruptcy. Eventually solid off for 4 cents on the dollar. It would be understandable if trump lost his appetite after that. Thats thing two in 60 seconds. Donald trump is a famously picky eater. As far as we know his diet consists of meatloaf, steak with ketchup. According to people familiar with the trips planning, the Prime Minister of india, a devoted vegetarian plans to serve vegetarian food to the president. A former official said of this situation, quote, i dont know what hes going to do in this case, they dont serve cheese burgers. A person close to trump who has dined with him on several occasions says he has salad at a meal every now and then but other than that, quote, i have never seen him eat a vegetable. Part of this might be due to the fact his doctor never got a chance to help trump get healthier because he was forced out following allegations of inappropriate behavior. He recently told the New York Times, quote, the exercise stuff never took off as much as i wanted it to. We were making ice cream less accessible, putting cauliflower into the mash potatoes. Someone else was interfering. Some people have great genes. I told the president if he have a healthier diet over the last 20 years, he might live to be 200 years. He has incredible genes, i just assume. You notice theres a bit of a freak out amongst certain segments of democrats and members in the media about Bernie Sanders strong position in the democratic field. There are two aspects to the freak out. One substantive from people who dont like his politics and policies. They think he would be a bad president. To that i say fine. The argument over which candidates platform best serves america is the right argument to have in a primary. The much bigger argument or the one i see more often is sanders is sure to be an electoral disaster, hes George Mcgovern all over again and hes going to get annihilated. The evidence we have just does not support that at all. I mean, i spent all day looking at this stuff. I would love to know the future, as we all would. We cant know the future. All we can do is just look at some of the evidence that we have, and im telling you, its not in the data. It just isnt. Here are the headtohead matchups between President Trump and the democratic president ial candidates. He is consistently in poll after poll after poll at or near the top of all of them. While the candidates are who are characterized more often as electable are lower. Sanders has higher Favorability Ratings than any other democratic president ial candidate in the field. His campaign has raised more money. His campaigns cash on hand in the latest fec filing more than doubled the other nonbillionaire candidates. His ability to raise money is not nothing when it comes to electability and possibly 1 billion being dropped on his head. There are swing members who worry about sanders effects on them, being dragged down in the downballot races. They might be right. They know their districts well. They also might be wrong. I dont know. I heard that a lot in 2016 from a lot of swing republican members. As political scientist points out in the New York Times oped, those fears about downballot drags might be overstated. Im open to the data. Well see. Leftwing candidates sometimes lose, they sometimes get drubbed. George mcgovern wasnt a leftwinger, he was a liberal, but famously lost in a landslide defeat to Richard Nixon after his insurgent campaign managed to capture the Democratic Party nomination. Thats a trauma that has stayed with people for generations. Understandably so. If you can point me to the data that we have where sanders is seven points behind in headtohead matchups with trump, i think there would be a real reason to worry, but its just not what the data says. If you dont like Bernie Sanders because you dont think he would be a good president. Thats your choice. You should act on that as a citizen. But if you are freaking out because he is so obviously an electoral disaster, im here to tell you its not what the information we have now suggests. So how to make sense of the sanders freakout next. These folks, they dont have time to go to the post office they have businesses to grow customers to care for lives to get home to they use stamps. Com print discounted postage for any letter any package any time right from your computer all the Amazing Services of the post office only cheaper get our special tv offer a 4week trial plus postage and a digital scale go to stamps. Com tv and never go to the post office again as i said, theres a real freakout happening in circles of media and punditry about the real possibility that Bernie Sanders will win the democratic nomination. That same sense of angst and panic doesnt translate to the broader world of democratic primary voters who really do view sanders incredibly favorably. To talk more about this, im joined by my panel. Rebecca, it seems to me like one of the lessons of 2016, i think, was about the social distance of the world of people that cover politics and think about it all day and, like, the voters out there. That got overdone a little bit as we all parachuted into diners. There was Something Real happening, right . There was a thing a lot of people didnt see coming because they were kind of disconnected from the place it was happening. I feel thats replicating itself in the democratic primary right now. You have a lot of the same people communicating these messages and still part of the party establishment. You have the same people who are in charge of the media, who are the pundits. You have a lot of the very same faces, and one of the things i keep going back to that nobody seems to have learned is that they dont know anything going in. Thats the thing. You dont know. I cant believe we can all disagree on the 45,000 lessons of 2016. Heres one we should all agree on, nobody knew, and thats okay as a place to begin thinking about whats happening in front of you and what could happen. But its the thing that was not learned. And i think the desire to have control and tell you exactly whats going to happen is part of what got us to the idea that people are stunned that Bernie Sanders might be winning. And now theyre freaking out. All desire to proclaim knowledge and wisdom. Right. Im waiting for South Carolina. Just because, i dont know, this is the first time were going to see africanamericans come to the polls. Yeah. As i said at the top, no one is overstating the case here. Things change. This is our second primary. We know caucuses are very different behavior set than primaries. This is our first time were in the south. Im not saying Bernie Sanders wont do well, but also, the other wild card we have is Michael Bloomberg and the amount of money that he can spend to microtarget to people to get them to not think about Bernie Sanders as a political candidate. Which hes going to do this week. On a daily basis for the punditry class and journalists, there are people who walk up to you who say, what is happening . Please tell me who the nominee will be. The thing is its way too early. We dont know the influence of money, how candidates will behave. We have how mamany in the race . I think thats true, but i also think that if there was a counterfactual where joe biden had won the first three races, where he has making he was raking in millions hed be the nominee, yes. Millions and millions of dollars. Where he already had established an organization that was the Largest Organization i think that exists. Bloombergs coming in late. Hes paying a lot of people. They show up to work. With what level of enthusiasm . Im not quite sure. I guess well find out more. I also have to say that i think it is the case that its very hard to know these things, but i work in a very populist medium, frankly. Yeah. A. M. Talk radio. I still take phone calls on my show now. And i got a call in 2015 from a writer from politico, and i cannot remember his name, although i do have it written down somewhere, and he was doing a story on Martin Omalley at the time. He said to me, im doing a story on Martin Omalley. He wants to know how he can get progressives away from Elizabeth Warren. I was like Elizabeth Warren . Shes not running. Bernie sanders is running. And he started to laugh. Literally laugh. Im like, you dont know whats going on out there. I think to a certain extent, we saw this with the blogs back in the early days, the media that is closest to people yeah. I think has a better sense on some level of maybe in this populist moment, maybe other movements not so much, as to what is going on on the ground. There are a lot of different politics, right . That is part of what i think is the difficulty here. For a year there was the thing, oh, you folks on woke twitter, you dont understand that real voters who are out there view themselves as moderate conservative and they like joe biden. There was something to that. It is true a large chunk of voters call themselves moderates and conservative. A lot of them are voting for Bernie Sanders now. Joe biden, the story of the race so far in some ways is joe biden is the dog that didnt bark, right . Be mad at joe biden and the people that campaigned. Joe biden is also a registered democrat, unlike Bernie Sanders. Be mad at joe biden and the establishment that decided to get behind him a year ago and insistent this was the guy who was going to do it. And bludgeoned everyone. A lot of people here talking about the witnesses that joe biden always exhibited as a candidate. A lot of good reasons to think, and in fact, i think they played themselves. The centrists who are worried right now, played themselves to an extraordinary degree by deciding this was going to be the one guy who could do it and losing all kinds of other candidates. Cory booker, kamala harris. All people in their 40s and 50s. Tom perez, where are you and what are you doing . Joe biden doesnt have a history of doing well in president ial races. He ran the past year as a coronation. Yet again we see a democrat running as a coronation instead of a proper campaign. The obama bump was not enough. Obama is not coming to save him. There is no life vest coming from barack obama. So here we are. We know, though, that the democrats also have this problem where theyre chasing this elusive White Working Class voter than Amy Klobuchar talks about. That left with jimmy carter. Theyre not coming back. Very few candidates are actively going out to try to get new voters, voters of color, young people, essentially people that obama got. So i think this is part of the bernie collective freakout for the democratic establishment. Actually, i will try to talk to some latino voters or Asian American voters or black voters who are very diverse. A lot of black voters who will go with joe biden and Michael Bloomberg. And theyre going to be another significant portion that goes with Bernie Sanders. Thats why i need to see South Carolina before we can the other thing we dont know, too. This is one piece of data that we dont have. Are we talking about low propensity voters . Who has the low propensity voters . And who has the high propensity voters . When iowa came in, we were like, oh, the numbers are not great. Not great. But we cant tell. Who those people are. If they are some of the new people and high propensity voters are saying i dont care, ill vote for whatever democrat. I dont need to go to the primary. Im going to vote for the democrat. You choose. Part of it, too, the angst of having the decision being made. So its like bloomberg, right . I talk to people, before bloomberg was on the debate stage and i was off last week, but it didnt go well. Thats what i hear. But heres the thing about that. You know, theres always the image of a candidate the initial part of the candidate is always nicer than, like, when they get in the muck. And, you know, thats just going to happen with everybody. It really happened to Michael Bloomberg who has a lot of things he he is very attackable on. He also has 67 billion other things he can try and help people forget what they saw. He can microtarget to you specifically with glasses who lives in groobrooklyn, whatever may be, and help you misremember if you were watching. Hopefully they dont tune in this week. Some of the turnout anxieties and everything i think are also a product of an establishment and a punditry that made this so much about this notion of electability, which we know yes, from the beginning. Formed around identity, gender, race, left politics, center politics. This was made so much about i totally agree. Who is going to win with this sort of false i know the path and who its going to be, which is all fake, all wrong, but what it did is take away the process as it should be, people go out and vote for the people who they want. And like the most and want to be president. Thats not happening so far and it needs to happen if were going to get a candidate that people are really excited about. I totally agree with that. My one framework for entering this whole thing is i dont know who is electable and you shouldnt worry about that because no one does and you should vote for what you end up with is a version of the housing bubble where people are buying homes to flip them as opposed to live in them. They buy these properties because some other sechmoe was going to buy them. We have to think about what white voters are going to do, as far as the democrats are concerned, the independents. Thats a great point. Thats a great point. The single issue for a lot of voters of color is not donald trump in 2020. I may love Elizabeth Warren or kamala harris, but i know that the data shows white men, white women are not going to go for that, so maybe i should just go with someone who is electable even if theyre not my first or second choice. Trump was scarring in that regard, rightly so. Oh, my god, if we can get this. Theres been a constant refrain that he is an existential threat to the country. Right. True or not, you know true. Very true. Its true. But hes certainly an existential threat to different cohorts in this country. Right. People of color i think are feeling the implications of that more. So it does make some sense that electability, even if you cant establish what it is, you would aim for it. Thats the thing. If someone could come and give you a magic pill and said here the future and heres the numbers for all these people, yeah, i can see i think i probably would vote with that. But there is no magic pill. Thats the point. The wrongness of the people who told you that pill, for example, what joe biden, is part of whats on display right now. Thank you for joining us.
