Women could still decide this election. You think of the knocking on doors, phone calls, billions put into advertise, two conventions, and now the third debate. The focus as weve been talking about is Foreign Policy. So its a perfect segue to the editor, publishing editor of the paper here at the university. The ipulse shows the final showdown is the story. To us, you know, having the third and final president ial debate was amazing. Theyre watching the debates just like we are. Of course. They all are all over the world. I think two of the main topics would be the arab spring, justice as weve been talking about it. An ongoing issue. We talk about it in class, we talk about it with our families. Something else i would mention, for my opinion, would be the immigration status for International Students who are studying here. And just about higher education. I know that doesnt have a lot to do with Foreign Policy, but its an issue that we want to hear. We didnt hear a lot during the campaigns or conventions. What about the wars . Topic tonight, of course, will be the war in afghanistan. Yes. How much have you been talking about that and paying attention to, you know, both attend e candidates talking about the year 2014, possibly bringing everybody home. I mean, it means a lot, and weve actually implemented 80 classes toward curriculum that talk about, you know, the Foreign Policy issues, just anything and everything related to politics. We talk reporter wow, 80 classes have been added, why is that . Yes. When we got the notice that we were going to host the debate, we wanted every single student to be informed and excited for this date. We wanted to have everyone on campus. You know, be informed of whats going on. We learned from what happened in past history and what we will expect from this election. We know this is one of the most important elections in history. Antidoping agency said the former pro was involved in a sophisticated doping program. Now armstrong has denied the allegations all along. More from joe carter. Lance armstrong has been stripped of his seven Tour De France titles. Now cyclings governing body agreed with the u. S. Antidoping agency, calling the report alleging armstrongs doping sickening. Which then led to this decision this morning. Ban Lance Armstrong of cycling and strip him of his seven Tour De France titles. Lance license has no place in cycling. The Antidoping Agency said armstrong used drugs at the peak of his cycling career. But the union had the final say on his titles. Armstrong has always bdenied th allegationses. No word yet on the decision. He can no longer be called a tour winner. According to the general director of the Tour De France, nobody else will, as well. No one is going to get all of those titles. Those years, all seven of those years, will remain vacant. From 1999 to 2005, the years armstrong won the tour, cycling was a very tainted sport. Many of the riders have links to performance enhancing drugs. The director of the tour called the era a time that will be forever tainted. In fact, if you go back and look at the record books, all but two riders who finished in the top five, the years that armstrong won, have been linked to have allegedly doped in one way or another. Also today, armstrongs last major sponsor, oakley, has also decided to part ways. They join nike, trek bicycles, anheuserbusch, and 24hour fitness who also dropped him last week. Thanks, joe. A Florida Court will sentence the first person in the hazing deaths of florida a m University Band member robert champion. Brian jones pleaded no contest to felony hazing charges, faces five years in prison. Jones was going trial but changed his plea after a meeting last week with the judge and stateds attorney. The 23yearold was a per suggestioni i percussionist in the band. He held champion in a bear hug. The judge commended jones decision to change his plea. Again, the 26yearold robert champion died last november after being beaten to death by a dozen band members. The other band members pleaded not guilty. They will go on trial next year. Officers rushed to a manage expecting a gun fight and found a Building Full of smoke. One woman doesnt know what happened to her stylist who works there. My moms been texting, saying she works in the first, you know, one of the first styling spots there, and thats where she is. So im hoping its shes okay, but we dont know. Police say haughton apparently committed suicide before they got to him. He apparently tried to set the building on fire. And they found a propane gas tank that he may have planted. The sprinklers helped douse the flames. Haughton had a history of Domestic Violence. We dont know whether his wife was among the victims. The father was killed, and a mom badly hurt trying to protect kids from a gunman. Police in englewood, california, believe the man set his house on fire and went to his neighbors and started shooting. The body was found slumped over three children, the mother was shot in both legs but carried their fourth child out of the house. He later died. Police found a body in the rubble but arent sure if its him. The mom and two children are in the hospital. Happening today, a kennedy is on trial to face charges he assaulted two nurses. Douglas kennedy is the 10th child of the late robert f. Kennedy. Hes accused of hurting nurses at a new york hospital. In january, kennedy tried to take his newborn son outside. The nurses say when they tried to stop him, he grabbed and kicked them. His lawyer says kennedy did nothing wrong. Youll likely have some extra cash this holiday season. Then theres the typical seasonal slowdown that we see after the peak driving season. Whats happening is theres less demand which means we dont see stations rising raising prices. You roll that together, and it brings down gas prices even a little bit. Gas analysts that we talked to tell us they expect prices to bottom in the 3. 35 to 3. 50 range in the next several weeks. Governor, this question is for you. Its one thing to have rules. That doesnt mean they were followed. Page 4 of the contract says the candidates may not ask each other direct questions. But it wasnt just governor romney. President obama did it, too. Page 3 says, no candidate may reference or cite any specific individual sitting in the debate audience. They are probably putting that data, the dna, into the codis system to see if there is a match. Well, you know, its really too close to call with the swing state, but what im finding is, especially, you know, in the swing states, its the same thing, all about relationships. Whats happening with the candidates right now is one is more facing their facts and figures for men, which would be obama which would be romney, which is what the candidates are trying to do i think if romney would be a little bit more relational, the women would have something more be more approachable and thats what we are finding is that women are looking for that relationship. They need to be able to have this contact with with romney and feel like he is talking to them. I think he is doing a better job at it than he was in the beginning but he still has ways to go how how harmful do you think that bindersful of women comment was . You know, its a comment. Did this whole thing did this whole blowup of his cycling career then surprise you when you look back at what you experienced with him . I think very few people are surprised. Since 1999, lance has faced allegations of doping. Through the years, there were times when i was sure that he had doped. There were times when i was sure that he hasnt. Until now, we never really had the smoking gun. It took a federal investigation, which was dropped, and then a fullscale investigation to bring out truth. Were you surprised how many other cyclers came out and said, yeah, i did this, i was part of this sophisticated ring . I wasnt surprised at the number of cyclists who said that they had doped. I think like all pro sports, cycling is dealing with medical intrusion into the sport. I was surprised the number of people who said they witnessed lance doping or were part of the program on his teams. I always assumed that would be a very, very small amount of people but as it turns out, 11 teammates spoke up. So do you would you see this as being careless on lances part to be so certainly it happened behind closed doors and only talking about you know, close to a dozen people, but still, thats a dozen people. Right. Its interesting to me, it seems to say that the culture of cycling at the time send doping. If you wanted to compete to whip, i think there were riders who completed who were clean and didnt dope but if you wanted to be at the very Upper Echelon of the sport, you had to dope and i think it came to seem normal as these guys. What do you think can he do . Can he do anything to overcome this damage . Thats what well find out. Especially in america, we love to forgive people. We love apologies. We love our admissions. Zina halton was harried to the suspected shooter, and police say he killed three women and wounded four others near milwaukee yesterday. A judge told the wisconsin man he could not go near his wife for the next four years. Joining me now with more on this is jane velezmitchell. It just just a few days away when the the restaining order came down, and he was ordered to hand in all of his guns. This was obviously a mass shooting, he did not hand in all of his guns. So we will ask tonight, when the restraining orders come down saying hand in your firearms, what do authorities do . Do they go to the persons house and say give me your guns. Or do they allow the person to say okay, ill go hand in my guns. Thats a very important question. Were uncovering toxic secrets leading up to the horror story. It turns out that almost two years ago, the same individual was involved in an hour and a half stand off with cops in which he was observed through a window pointing an object that appears to look like a rifle, and there was an hour and a half stand off. But no arrests were made, and when they tried to prosecute the case, they were hobbled because they didnt arrest him, and when the wife didnt show up in court, the charges were dismissed. Overall, these restraining orders can be very controversial. And were going to talk about it tonight. This is a senseless tragedy, and it happens too often. Just a few days earlier, there was almost an identical case. Involving a restraining order. And the woman that he had spent time with, and is that the trigger point for some men . When that wall goes down, and the powers at be say you must stay away, in some men, does it provoke feelings of rage, powerd do they go on a Vendetta Mission . And if that wasnt the trigger, Something Else would be the trigger for these men. So its difficult for a judge to decide what is the correct thing to do. Critics are saying while restrainer orders do work well in many cases, how many cases have we covered where a restrainer order proceeds a murder . Some attorneys say if you violate a restrainer order, you will go to prison, bailed out, and able to target the woman that you have been told to stay away from. And maybe do we need to put gps devices on men who are given an order for protection . And do we need to insist they have a gps device. In this case, if there had been a gps tracking device, they would have known he was headed to that spa, and when that alarm went off, they could have responded before the mass shooting. Lets talk act the challenging role of the moderator. Its never been an easy job, but man, it seems and its been ramped up with every debate this particular election cycle. Bob schaffer says that hes never seen the candidates be so aggressive. Thats something that everybody who has watched these debates since they first started saying i spoke with jim lehrer, tom brokaw, they both said they have never seen the candidates be so aggressive. They also never have seen the moderators come under so much scrutiny. So what is that what should we be looking for tonight then . The thing is you never quite know, in the same way you dont know what will happen in the debate, you dont know how either side will hit the moderat moderator. But you know in some way, shape, or form, they will come under criticism. Are the voters served by this new aggressiveness in the debates . The aggressiveness for the candidates vary. I think in terms of what the candidates are doing, they want to assert themselves and appear en energetic. But when theyre too aggressive, step over the moderator, it runs risks that can be very off putting to voters. Some describe it as bullying. They spoke over candy of cnn who was the moderator in that debate. Its a fine line, a fine balance. One difference you will see in tonights debate, they will be sitting at a table with the moderator the same way that Vice President joe biden and paul ryan did in theyre debate, that tones down some of the energy. Bob schaffer is not knew to this, and he has been watching the previous debates, what do you expect from him . Will he change his style . I dont think he will. He is very reliable. With bob schaffer, you kind of know what youre getting. The same thing with jim lehrer. And the two of them are close friends. The only issue is that bob schaffer is not a very confrontational moderator. So what you might see is a repeat of what happened in the first debate. The exception being that both a. And explain this r format again. Each candidate answers questions, but there is time built in there for the moderator sure. Its the same as the first debate. There will be six 15minute segments. Each candidate will get two minutes to respond, then there will be an 11minute open format in which the moderator is expected to facilitate a conversation between the two candidates.
