we have new video of an arson suspect that targeted vehicles owned by the city of philadelphia. and protesters bring down a confederate statue in response to a white supremacist rally in virginia. and the big story on "action news" at noon is an apartment fire that sent dozens of people scrambling for safety and residents were sleeping when the flames broke out. we are live at the scene with the very latest. >> reporter: one firefighter was injured and two residents were seriously injured and rushed to the hop here at the scene. it's unusually quiet and many residents have gone to stay with relatives or friends, most of them are at least temporarily without a home. >> heard screeching noise, i guess that was the alarm. and came out side and saw flames coming out of my neighbor's apartment. >> it was 12:30 in the morning when the fire alarms when off at the canterbury apartments on more elavenue. this video shows what firefighters were met with upon arrival. >> dead sleep and fire alarm and woke up building was on fire. can't believe it was on fire, we went back in and grabbed the animals. >> firefighters fought the blaze that took an hour to get under control. residents waited to get on the septa bus as the red cross arranged accommodations. >> we are waiting for the office of emergency management and red cross and building management. and all of those together will work together to find housing for all the displaced occupants. >> meanwhile, one firefighter was taken to the hospital along with two residents that were seriously injured. most of the damage is mostly due to water and smoke damage, so a lot of damage and some residents could salvage some things. channel 6 "action news." >> thank you. a water main break is causing traffic troubles in boothland, delaware county. this is video near bethel avenue minutes near the cast iron main burst this morning. a section of bethel avenue is now closed and crews from the chester water authority is making repairs. and a local day care owner was back in court today following his arrest on child sex abuse charges, duncan couldn't's hearing was postponed earlier this month. he maintains his innocence after being accused of abusing two 5-year-old children at the sprouts day care, now closed. we'll have more coming up in the next half hour. we are dealing today with wet weather along with muggy conditions outside. as we look live from sky 6 hd a lot of clouds and passing showers, this is the commodore barry bridge and meteorologist, david murphy, is in the weather center with the first check of the forecast. >> obviously looking at the picture it's cloudy and a wet start as well. i want to bring in stormtracker 6 live double scan and show you what is going on in south jersey and delaware definitely seeing rain this morning and in some cases heavy rain and areas west of philadelphia you see how this is moving toward the east a little bit toward the northeast and we do have a couple of thunderstorms that have started to pop up in areas close to chester county and starting to get closer to delaware county as well. closer view here shows you they are fairly isolated and producing downpours and a fair amount of lightning, and an overabundance of it. you have optional plans in norristown and malvern. you may want to give it a half hour to hour, maybe additional thunderstorms to the west toward wilmington. and if we pop out wider to the south and areas closer to atlantic city. and picking up a shower shortly not be is surprised to see lightning, out o too. and at least a heavy downpour, that is basically west to east with a slide to the north. as we look at temperatures across the region we are look agent a warm one. 76 in philadelphia having trouble confederate statue in north carolina. they tied a rope around the monument in durham last night and pulled the bronze monument from its pedestal. it's in response to the rally in virginia. and now they are using the video of the incident to try to identify the suspects. the case against a south jersey doctor accused of pulling a gun on authorities could go to a grand jury next month. dr. james kauffman was back in atlantic county court for a hearing and no plea deal was made and kauffman remains in jail as they authorities execute search warrants at his home in june. the husband of april kauffman, a popular radio show host killed in 2012. we have new information about a deadly shooting last night in west philadelphia. we know the man killed on the 5800 block of christian street was gunned down in front of his two young children and he was identified. shot to death at 9:30, the gunman took off and so far no arrests have been made. after a fiery overnight crash, all lanes are back open on the atlantic city expressway, that a vehicle traveling westbound hit a guardrail and crashed into trees on the side of the highway in washington township. a viewer captured the flames shooting scan shows the southern half of the region is still being hit with rain and if i go into areas close to philadelphia. you can see that some of these showers, some of them heavy and this one producing a recent lightning strike is starting to push north of philadelphia into areas of norristown and landsdale. i'll start this up and most of it is nuisance rain and you get a brief, heavier downpour and a recent lightning strike around that little guy in coatesville. this is in the last 45 minutes, not aboverabundance of lightning, you may want to put off your travel plans for a half hour and let this pass. and if we go out wider i'll dive down the shore we have additional heavy shower activity there. this one is possibly producing lightning and so far it's not and getting close to the coast. good idea to stay indoors in ocean city and a.c. and the finally thing i will point out is the additional thunderstorms to the northern and west in maryland and that one is probably on its way too. we have sky 6 hd and despite the rain drops there are people on the beach a light rain there, and from you around atlantic city you may want to get off the beach in case the heavier downpour hits and related lightning. 76 is the current temperature in philadelphia. we are stalling because of the rain and thick cloud cover, dew points 72, so it's humid out there. winds light at 76 degrees. 77 in cape may and these numbers hold in place with the rain. and then bounce up a little bit as the rain starts to thin out later in the day. lets go ahead and see what stormtracker 6 live double scan has for us, or future tracker 6 by 3:00 you see that the heavy rain may still be hugging the southern coastline and there are cells around that may in some spots give you a downpour or rumble of thunder. but generally speaking in the afternoon to 6:00 it's less and less rain with swatted shower activity and 9:00 or so it's pretty much done and wet out there for now in areas and getting better. 77 in the lehigh valley and in philadelphia a high of 80 and mostly cloudy and showers and a thunderstorm at times and the number bouncing up in the afternoon. we have a hurricane ehrt a catego category one hurricane. look for a moderate risk of rip currents and heavy surf. your high temperatures on the beach today right around 78 to 80. again that moderate risk of rip concerns, if you get caught in one swim parallel to the beach and get on out of it. earlier tonight clearing and your exclusive accuweather seven-day forecast a high of 80 today and humid and fairly cloudy the rest of the way and a chance of showers off and on into early evening. sunny and hot and high of 90 and not quite as humid and the humidity comes back for thursday and a high of 86 and the chance of of a spotty shower or thunderstorm especially afternoon and evening. hopefully it avoids lincoln financial field. and downpours are possible here and there and a spotty storm but not a washout. but nice conditions for
