president wants to sign the bill by christmas but republicans may not have the votes. meagan fitzgerald is in the newsroom with more on how this tax plan is hanging by a thread at this point. >> aaron and eun, what a difference a few days makes, right? last week it looked like president trump was on track to get his first legislative win of the yeefrmt that's in jeopardy now. marco rubio is threatening to vote no unless there's a child tax credit. mike lee is undecided. tennessee governor bob corker doesn't support the plan. republicans can only afford to lose two votes. but president trump thinks rubio will come around. supportive. i think that senator rubio will be there. >> republicans are also concerned about mississippi senator thad cochran who missed votes due to health reasons and arizona senator, john mccain, also could miss those since he's still in the hospital. eun? >> meagan fitzgerald from the newsroom. thank you. the latest member to exit the trump administration isn't going quietly. omarosa manigault newman sat down with nightline to explain why she resigned. the former reality star was the only african-american woman in the senior staff white house. she was troubled by president trump's handling of the violence in charlottesville. >> and we all were shocked and repulsed by what we saw, yet the president said there were fine people in that crowd and bad folks on either side. does that concern you? >> absolutely. >> ses pushed out by chief of staff john kelly and had to be escorted off the white house grounds. she says that's not true. omarosa says there are other issues she had with the white house, but she will not go into detail until her job officially ends next month. i've seen this only once before. >> fans of -- >> oh, my the area. not everybody, though. we have a weather alert for d.c. and maryland. this is not everybody. we'll be seeing snow falling mainly after noon today probably not going to see it around lunchtime. you might see signs of flurries developing. once the snow starts falling off after noon, low visibility. it will move through quickly. future weather, not too much. then this thing develops practically out of nowhere. there's 3:00 p.m., the clipper gets closer to the atlantic. it pulls in moisture from the atlantic. that's why the best chance will be around the d.c. metro and maryland all the way up to new york. we'll take a closer look at the timing and what expect coming up. let's check the roads, melissa. >> nice and dry right now. i appreciate that. taking a look at the beltway, inner loop after route 1, two lanes getting by. that's the normal work zone most every weekday morning. prince george's county, northbound and southbound, everything is looking good headed hospital for about months. you see her here doing physical therapy. she'll continue to receive outpatient care now. 4:40 is the time right now. the tolls for solo drivers keep going up on i-66. >> yesterday morning's commute hit a new record since the express lanes opened. wtop reports that tolls topped out at $44 just before 8:30 yesterday morning. the previous record was set at about $40 last week. v dot spokesperson says it was because of extra traffic, a bridge backup and an accident. area leaders have been demanding action to lower toll prices or shorten the hours of 66 for the express lanes. >> transportation officials say if you don't want to pay, you can carpool with somebody else or find another route. >> that's the goal. to push people -- >> off the highway. >> money will do that to you. >> yep. depending on where you live, you could see a dusting of snow by the time you get we do have snow in the forecast. not now, not for the morning commute. don't worry about that. tactical gear at the courthouse and choppers patrolling overhead. fields faces 40 years in prison if convicted. around halloween, we recruitment flyers left in loudoun county neighborhoods. one woman >> here's where things stand as of this morning. republicans can lose no more than two votes. but there are five in question, including utah and marco rubio of florida. they're undecided if they don't boot the child tax credit benefits for low and middle income families. then bob corker of tennessee, he has problems with it adding to the deficit and thad cochran of mississippi and john mccain of arizona, they've been ill. they've missed votes. it's not clear if they'll be here for the votes. five in question. they can't lose more than two. >> tracie, how might democrats taking control of that senate seat in alabama impact the tax bill? >> well, that's interesting. because it's why they've been push to go dee late vote until doug jones gets here. if enough republicans defect and doug jones is added to the democratic t topple this approval in the senate of the tax plan. but delaying that vote for a democrat is' d a decision the republican leadership would have to make. >> tracie potts on capitol hill, thank you. she faces murder charges after admitting shaking her newborn daughter. her baby died three days later. she called 9-1-1 in february and said her daughter was unresponsive. authorities transported the baby to the hospital. she died from blunt force injuries. her mother confessed to abusing the baby. officers arrested her on wednesday. they were heroes dedicated to serving until their last moments. those words were spoken by governor larry hogan as he praised the two fallen heroes thursday. the first responders traveled from as far away asou pay respects for deputy state fire marshal sander cohen. he was helping carlos wolff when both men were hit and killed but another driver. wolff was also laid to rest on thursday in gaithersburg. this morning, more than 3 dozen people have been left treerl ho temporarily homeless after a fire ripped through their apartment. we talked with a man who helped a neighbor in a wheelchair. >> then i seen him. i was like all right, let me help him out, get him out of building. >> helped me to rescue him. i put him in ambulance. >> nothing special. just something anybody would do. >> the good news is that no one was hurt in the fire. we're told for some residents it could be several weeks before they're able to get back in. it's what grandma's closets are made out of, apparently. it's national ugly christmas plenty cold enough to support snow. most of the suburbs are well into the 20s this morning. 23 leesburg. 22 gaithersburg. 29 in annapolis by the bay. here's what you need to know. a snow chance is coming. but it's somewhere between slim and none. slim chances for maryland and almost no chance for virginia today. half an inch to maybe an inch in some spots. here's the favorite zone here. montgomery county, prince george's county, howard, anne arund arundel, cou the farther north and east you drive, the better the snow chances will be. friends and neighbors toward the blue ridge don't need to worry much at all. here's your planner for the day today. increasing clouds this morning. a chance for light snow and snow showers around primarily during the early and middle parts of the afternoon. you can always follow the latest on the forecast and use our interactive radar feature on the nbc washington app. we'll be tweeting it out as well on the social media platforms. there's the clipper there. it is moisture starved at this point in time. as it comes closer to the ocean and the bay, should be able to draw up enough moisture to bring out a snow chance. 1:00 in the afternoon and then boom, between 1:00 and 4:00, as it gets closer to the bay and the ocean, better chances for moisture and snow. that's 4:00 in the afternoon. basically along and east of the corridor, it's all but done around here. we'll clear it out thereafter. here's the ten-day forecast now. there you can see, not so bad 45 tomorrow, 47 on sunday. back into the 50s for monday and tuesday. any small precip chances that come our way will be raindrops, not snowflakes early next week. another chance for rain friday into saturday. that, of course, is leading to sunday. which is christmas eve of all
