>> well without question, the most important thing is to do something, to give. and it's both noble and good for consumers and businesses to do so. and the stories and the news that is coming out of that area, it's so disheartening. and certainly is tragic. and it's equally as tragic to know that there are people that are scheming to capitalize on this and to line their own pockets with donations intended for charities. and it's important for consumers or businesses, anybody that's going to donate, to remember a couple of simple things. >> okay. >> the first is to do some research. find out about the charity that you're dealing with. know who you are dealing with. are they a registered charity? are they a 501 c organization? how are they governorred? how are they organized and you can check with the better business bureau to find out if they're a registered charity or meet the standards for charity giving. and probably the most important thing is to determine whether or not the charity as the infrastructure and the channels of distribution in place on the ground to provide relief. generally if a charity is already there, and you're providing a monetary donation, that's the quickest and most affective way of being able to provide a donation. >> that's what we keep hearing from some of the organizations, is, look, clothing and food and those types of things are wonderful, but what we really need right now is money. do we need to make sure those folks are on the ground doing the work that needs to be done. >> you do need to be careful n. today's day and age it is so easy to give. you can do a text and go online and send in a check. but as easy as it is to give, it's just as easy to be deceived. and a good example on point is that within two days of the disaster taking place there was already 400 websites that were created to try to capitalize on it. and in addition to the websites, the phony websites, the thousands upon thousands of unsolicited spam e-mail taking ple trying to solicit donations. >> online is such an easy way for people to give. they are sitting at home and they can click on. but when you go online on the see the organizations listed there, you can go to the better business bureau website to check them out and make sure they are legit. >> yes. do your research. and the second thing you want to keep in mind is time. time is of the essence right now. but the time forgiving is on going. so don't make a tasty decision and don't set caution aride. don't be pressures into making a decision and the third thing to bear in mind is that it is good to give. it's necessary. do so. but if you're going to give, give with your head and your heart. >> and there are organizations that say, look, this money is going directly to haiti. do we have to be careful of organizations saying 100% of the haiti going to haiti? >> something always comes f the top. even if you're giving on a credit card, there is a credit card processing fee. so the likely of it being 100% may not be true. >> thank you so much. and we've put a link to the better business bureau on our website at myfoxdc.com. ally. >> gurvir, thank you. and fox is joining other major tv networks for a haiti telejohn. wyclef john, anderson cooper and george clooney will host a befit for haiti. and we want to thank you to everyone who donated last night to our haiti phone bank. your generosity raised so much money and remember you can still donate. there is a list of links on our website at myfoxdc.com. well we've heard about it for years. it's an ingredient in mastic that ou use every day. the fda deemed it safe and maybe they're backtracking. and we continue to remember dr. martin luther king, jr. holly. >> reporter: you just missed it, they showed a clip of dr. martin luther king giving his last speech to in spire this crowd who are giving this day, a national day of service. some 3,000 people are giving of their team and it begs the question, what are you doing today to celebrate the leadership of dr. king. we'll give you a few ideas later. we want to leave you now with the first look at our trivia question today. which fleetwood mac effort was from 1979?
