When Black Lives Matters protesters gathered in Washington over the summer to protest the killings of unarmed Blacks by law enforcement officers, they were met by armies of police, National Guard troops and other members of law enforcement. Gov. Phil Murphy sent 85 Guard members to help protect the national monuments.
Law enforcement officers even used tear gas and rubber bullets at the time to clear peaceful protesters out of the way so President Donald Trump could hold up a Bible at a church near the White House. And an independent study found 95% of the protests were peaceful.
