Thanks for joining us. Im iain page. Im lucy noland that quake 4. 1 sented just outside dover felt, however, all across our area. Kathy orr you and i had this one covered breaking news earlier. It was right before the newscast. Yeah i know. Every unwere was calling and texting and running into the newsroom and wept center. It was an earthquake. The last one we had was millersville, pa in the spring. Remember i think it was 2011 in virginia that damaged the washington monument. This one a 4. 1 magnitude quake six id say 6. 1 miles east northeast of dover, delaware. Really close to the delaware bay and it rocked at about 4 45 this afternoon. Many people in the Delaware Valley felt it very close to 5 00 oclock. This is the center of the quake where the star is from the Us Geological survey. See all these blue pixels . This is where that light shaking was felt as far north as western connecticut the catskills of new york and long island really felt in south jersey, philly and down through delaware even through maryland. Baltimore and washington feeling the shaking going on. As far as the depth it was a shallow quake 8. 1kilometers deep. 5 miles deep with shallow quake you typically see more damage. Right now no reports of damage into our weather center. But these quakes travel farther along the east coast and west coast because our tow poe gravy we have dense surface rock and the seismic waves travel further under these conditions along the east coast. Lets move learn more about the fall line. We do have one in delaware. Scott has got more on that. Hey, scott. Hi there are kathy. Yeah, certainly as we talk about these earthquakes, our area not prone to seeing them too often but certainly that can happen in our vicinity. But take look at the hot zones across the entire United States. The most active spots out west into california. The pacific northwest. Also, alaska and then as you move toward parts of the midwest, Mississippi River valley, sections of the southeast and then as we move into sections of new england so what about those most intense fault lines that we talk about. The san andreas fault, out west, moving through sections of california. That is a key fault zone. The new madurai fault moving through missouri and Mississippi River valley through sections of tennessee. We have an east coast fault that moves right up the i95 corridor into nor sections of delaware and also the ramapo fault that moves through sections of new jersey and also back toward sections around lancaster. So that is why we can have earthquakes in this vicinity but certainly unusual. Back over to you. Kathy . Wow it is incredible. Yeah. Were talking about this quake being the strongest since the 1800s when there was one in wilmington, delaware, of the same magnitude. Believe it or not. Our earthquake reports continue to come in with more information but right now, we are looking at quiet conditions.
