New Delhi: In a major sign that the deadly COVID-19 pandemic is abating in India, as many as 33 states and Union Territories have less than 20,000 active cases of coronavirus, confirmed the Ministry of Health of Family Welfare on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Kerala and Maharashtra continue to remain the worst-affected states together accounting for over 40 per cent of the total active cases in the country.

New Delhi [India], December 20 (ANI): With 26,624 new COVID-19 cases recorded in the last 24 hours, India s total coronavirus cases reached 1,00,31,223, according to the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW).
According to the Health Ministry, 29,690 recoveries and 341 deaths have been reported in the last 24 hours.
The total numbers of recovered and active cases in the country are 95,80,402 and 3,05,344 respectively. Meanwhile, the country s death toll stands at 1,45,477.
A total of 16,11,98,195 samples tested for COVID-19 up to December 19. Of these, 11,07,681 samples were tested yesterday, according to the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR).

New Delhi [India], December 20 (ANI): Delhi on Sunday reported 1,091 new COVID-19 cases and 26 deaths in the last 24 hours, a health bulletin from the Delhi government informed.
With this, the total number of positive cases in the national capital now stands at 6,17,005, including 10,148 active cases and 5,96,580 recoveries.
The death toll now stands at 10,277.
As many as 46,001 RTPCR/CBNAAT/TruNat tests were conducted on Sunday.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said that the third wave of the coronavirus, which hit the city in October, was now over. Delhi fought a war against the COVID-19 pandemic and today, the third wave of coronavirus is under control, Kejriwal had said in a statement.

New Delhi [India], December 20 (ANI): India s trajectory of active COVID-19 cases continues to follow a steadily dipping path and the total active caseload has dropped to 3.05 lakh (3,05,344) on Sunday, the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) has said.
According to the Union Health Ministry, this has been made possible by the trend of recoveries exceeding new cases and a low number of fatalities per day which have ensured a total net reduction of the active caseload.
India s present active caseload consists of just 3.04 per cent of India s total positive cases. The new recoveries of 29,690 in the last 24 hours have led to a net decline of 3,407 in the total active cases, MoHFW said in a release.
