Their names have come up during the probe, says CBI
The CBI on Sunday recorded the statements of two staff members of former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh in connection with a preliminary enquiry into the allegations of corruption against him.
“The statements of two personal assistants of Mr. Deshmukh have been recorded, as their names had come up during the probe being conducted to determine if a prima facie case is made out,” said a CBI official.
The agency earlier examined former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh, ACP Sanjay Patil, suspended assistant police inspector Sachin Vaze and others. A DCP of the Mumbai police was told to join the preliminary enquiry, which has been initiated by the CBI on the orders of the Bombay High Court.

The PE has been ordered after the Mumbai Police submitted a report in connection with the security scare case to the state Home department, an official said on Saturday. The PE order was issued on April 1, he said.

Waze had claimed that former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh and Transport Minister Anil Parab had asked him to extort money.
A special NIA court on Friday sent suspended Mumbai Police officer Sachin Waze to judicial custody till April 23. Waze was arrested by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in connection with an explosive laden SUV that was found outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani s house and death of Mansukh Hiren, who owned the SUV.
It is all hearsay, there is no material evidence, Anil Deshmukh told the Supreme Court today.
New Delhi:
An independent probe is warranted in the matter of former Mumbai Police Commissioner Param Bir Singh s corruption allegations against former Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh since both occupied such high positions in the government, the Supreme Court today said. It refused to interfere with a Bombay High Court order directing a CBI investigation into the charges, observing that the two persons involved were working closely until they fall apart.
The comments from a Supreme Court bench of Justices S K Kaul and Hemant Gupta came on an appeal by the Maharashtra government and Mr Deshmukh to stay the High Court order.
