they don t have an initiative. they don t have an exit strategy to stop red wave that is building and i don t know how they can come up with one. shannon: the gallup polling has not been good for democrats lately especially with self-identifying party afill united states. the poll shows just how much trouble democrats are in when joe biden took over from donald trump a year ago, democrats held a 49-40 advantage in that gallup poll party identification from 9 points up to 5 points down in less than a year. it is one of the most dramatic reversal of party fortune that gallup has ever recorded. ari? yeah, and earlier hugh talked about the two midterm elections that were massive sweeps. 1994 bill clinton s first midterm election in 2010 barack obama s midterm election which the democrats suffered massive losses. and the problem that the democrats have now is they are on identical trajectory and i don t see anything stopping it the only move i would make if i were joe biden, is on crime
evidence so far and my experience, i can tell you, so he does not seem terribly sophisticated visually from what we are told by congregants. he s agitated at the beginning. he s apologizing. he s animated. he doesn t seem in control. he appears to have no exit strategy. chooses the synagogue that he claims was because it was near an airport. so there was no reason to have chosen it except for geography. so they may believe that he was both radicalized alone and acted alone. that is not to negate the radicalization that is occurring within terrorist organizations or within jihadist organizations to target synagogues globally which we re just seeing throughout the united states and the world. yeah, and there s a lot we re going to learn, a lot we don t know yet. but it doesn t seem massively
and for me, i m not going to comment on the composition and the disposition of the readiness of the ukraine forces in any kind of detail. i don t think that would be appropriate for me to do that given the current situation. barb. reporter: a question for both of you. mr. secretary, you talked a bit here today about u.s. troops providing reassurance and deterrence to the eastern flank of europe. can you help people understand a little bit more about what that means in terms of what u.s. troops would be doing to fulfill that mission. how do you know when you re done you don t send troops unless you have an exit strategy. what would it take for you to ever trust vladimir putin? and, general milley, you laid out some pretty dire scenarios if the russians decided to make that full move.
have some good news about the youngest children being able to be vaccinated next week. maybe a little bit longer into the week. there definitely are regions where this could be appropriate. everybody wants an exit strategy. i totally, totally understand that. i would love to see some metrics go along with this too. there might be times when masks need to come back on. they certainly are still needed in school for right now. doctor, speaking of which, what would those metrics look like? we re all looking for a light at the end of the tunnel here. there may be a new variant that comes along or something happens and you have to put the masks back on. what would the masks look like? i think it s going to be a combination of things. hopefully we will get vaccine available for the youngest parts of our population and we ll see how that goes out. the up take in the 5 to 11-year-olds has not been as robust.
so, we ll be watching for that quite closely. and jeremy bash. first, do you see an exit strategy after basically surrounding ukraine on all sides with his massive build up? yeah, i certainly agree that putin is going to be looking for an exit strategy. i think he did not anticipate the west s response. not only the fact that the u.s. has prepared a set of crippling sanctions against russian financial institutions on day one, export control restrictions that would go after russia s high-tech manufacturing. industrial capability. but the fact we ve put kwoivl 00 troops on a prepare to deploy order. we ve sent 3,000 troops east to bolster the eastern flank. sent lethal weaponry to the ukrainians.
