Men's Lacrosse: 2024 Preview

Greetings and salutations, 11W. It’s been a long time since I last posted a lengthy, lacrosse focused bit on here. Lots of life changes led to the delay, but I’m going to pick things up as best I can. Ohio State’s men’s lacrosse team officially scrimmages another team on January 27", so time is running short. There’s a whole lot to get into, with coaching changes, personnel changes (heads up: this is a whole new team), and a much rougher schedule than is advisable with the unknown...

Men's Lacrosse: 2023 Postmortem

Some weeks after the end of an absolutely brutal season, with a blood-rage subsiding enough to form coherent thoughts, it is time. The postmortem of the 2023 Ohio State men’s lacrosse season needs to be posted for the easing of my mind. And so much has happened since April that a recap is in order. The real junkies mentioned that women’s lacrosse was in a rough spot, and that Amy Bokker might be feeling the heat. I paid marginal attention to the women’s season, but those predictions proved...

StoryCorps in Utah: Matt and Doug Caputo

Caputo’s Market & Deli is a family affair. Their history with food goes back to the early twentieth century when owner Matt Caputo’s Italian immigrant grandparents operated a small neighborhood market on Salt Lake’s west side. In 1997, a new generation opened the current Caputo’s Market & Deli. Run first by Tony and then his son Matt, the business has stayed true to the family’s immigrant roots. Those roots were top of mind when Matt sat down with his uncle, Doug Caputo, at Stor...

Men's Lacrosse: Denver Dominates Bucks, 17-12

That's about all she wrote. Ohio State HAD to have this victory to sniff the national tournament barring an improbable Big Ten Tournament run. To have Denver drop 17 on you is just the final nail in the coffin. This has been a rough year since opening day, and it's just a matter of going through the motions until The Game. Ohio State and Denver had almost the same number of shots today, but as I mentioned in the preview, Denver makes you take bad looks. The Pios had 18 of their first 2...

Men's Lacrosse: Buckeyes Bash Titans, 19-6

With a much less difficult opponent came a much more comfortable victory. Ohio State demolished Detroit Mercy in just about every facet, even after putting in all the subs at halftime. The opening two quarters saw Ohio State limit Detroit Mercy to just 8 shots, and 2 goals on those shots. Skylar Wahlund had little to do, and the Buckeyes are happy to have that. It's been a long stretch of getting shellacked, and the rest will do him good.

Men's Lacrosse: Big Red Defeat Bucks, 16-13

The scoreline flatters Ohio State tremendously as the Buckeyes were bested in nearly every facet of the game today. Cornell was dominant from the jump, racing out to a 9-3 halftime lead. Ohio State allowed 60 shots, 31 shots on goal, committed 20 turnovers, only generated 39 shots of their own, and was down at least 4 goals after Q1 until the final minute of the game. This was a beating, even if the scoreline doesn't show it.
