Dr Seamus Dowling, the Programme Chair for Cyber Security at GMIT’s Mayo Campus says the cyber attack was worked on for quite a long time, making the breach all the more concerning. The Cyber Security Lecturer and his students track cyber threat groups to determine their tactics, techniques and procedures, studying how they find vulnerabilities and hack into IT systems. He believes once this group got into the health service they would have been able to move laterally and access personal data, including financial information.

Weather warning in effect across the region Published: Thursday, 20 May 2021 07:13 A Status Yellow rainfall warning is in effect across Mayo, Galway, Clare, Cork, Kerry and Waterford until midnight. Met Eireann is forecasting rainfall amounts of 30 to 50 mm with some localized flooding. The highest totals will occur in mountainous areas. A Status Yellow wind warnings have also been issued for Cork and Kerry over the same period, while a warning for Waterford and Wexford will expire at 4pm this afternoon. Southerly winds, later veering westerly, will reach gusts of 80 to 110 km/h, with higher gusts possible in coastal areas.
