Yakima Gas Prices Continue to Rise as Summer Approaches
Have you filled up the gas tank recently? Going through sticker shock? In the past week gas prices in Yakima are up 8.6 cents per gallon selling on an average of $3.12 per gallon according to GasBuddy s daily survey of 91 station in the Yakima area. GasBuddy says gas prices in Yakima are 33.9 cents per gallon higher than a month ago and stand 25.1 cents per gallon higher than a year ago. GasBuddy tracks where the cheapest gas is sold in the valley. GasBuddy says the cheapest station in Yakima is priced at $2.76/g today while the most expensive is $3.39/g, a difference of 63.0 cents per gallon. The lowest price in the state today is $2.62/g while the highest is $3.79/g, a difference of $1.17/g. Home Sales Strong In Yakima County in New Year
Despite the COVID-19 restrictions that continue in Washington state home sales have been strong in Yakima County in the new year. Cory Bemis owner of Yakima s John L. Scott Real Estate says the 2021 Year to Date Median Home Sales Price in the Yakima MLS is $292,000 which is a 16.80% increase from last year when the price was $250,000.
Lots of people have been buying homes. Bemis says more people last month purchased homes than they did in February of last year. Bemis says 113 homes sold in February compared to 105 sold in February of 2020, a 7.6% increase in sales this year. All total, 226 homes have been sold in 2021 which is a 2.6% increase over 2020.
Union Gospel Mission Summit Thrift to Open May 1
It s called Summit Thrift. It s the new Yakima Union Gospel Mission thrift store opening May 1 at 56th and Summitview in the former Rite Aid building next to Safeway. Union Gospel Mission Executive Director Mike Johnson says work is underway to refurbish and clean up the store to give it new life after the building sat vacant for years. He says they re reworking the inside of the building to create a clean inviting atmosphere.Work is also happening outside the store to clean up the property.
Summit Thrift is in addition to two other thrift stores that are owned and operated by the Yakima Union Gospel Mission. Johnson says they ve seen a lot of success at the original Lighthouse Thrift Store on South Front Street and the Lincoln Mission Thrift store located on Lincoln Avenue. Johnson says those two stores currently generate enough money to fully fund all administrative costs at the mission meaning no salaries or other costs come from
