Court denies attempted murder suspect s motion for a new attorney

On Thursday, Williams issued an order denying Bowie s request. The court has appointed the Tippecanoe County Public Defender s Office to represent defendant in this cause, and it is that office which assigns counsel, Williams wrote in his order. That order leaves Hughes as Bowie s attorney, and Bowie faces an Aug. 17 trial on charges of attempted murder, two counts of pointing a firearm, resisting law enforcement and several weapons charges for carrying a handgun. He also is charged with disobeying a declaration of a disaster emergency for ignoring the pandemic-induced order to stay home. Prosecutors also filed a sentence-enhancing charge of being an habitual offender.
