A 46-year-old Smithton man is facing a couple of felonies following an altercation in Sedalia this past June.
On June 23, a Pettis County Sheriff’s deputy arrived at the scene of a reported disturbance involving a weapon. The alleged victim claims that Christopher Cowles illegally entered her home while she was sleeping. She claims Cowles began yelling at her and then proceeded to her roommate’s room where he began threatening the roommate.
Cowles is charge with a Class B Felony for Burglary in the First Degree and a Class C Felony for Domestic Assault in the Third Degree. Cowles posted $5,000 surety bond on August 31.

Michael Brown allegedly ran over his wife with a vehicle in front of their children.
According to a Missouri State Highway Patrol report, law-enforcement officers identified the victim as 32-year-old Maria Brown.
Some witnesses at the scene told authorities Brown was in his truck and backed into his wife, then left the scene.
After Brown turned himself in about three hours later, he spoke at length to authorities about religion and described Maria as a “dark angel.” A friend told authorities Michael Brown said “God wanted him to do it.”
Brown pleaded not guilty, during his arraignment on December 7, to Class A Felonies for Murder in the First Degree and Assault in the First Degree; two counts of a Class D Felony for Endangering the Welfare of a Child and a Class D Felony for Leaving the Scene of an Accident Resulting in Death; a Class E Felony for Resisting/Interfering with an Arrest for a Felony; and an Unclassified Felony for Armed Criminal Action. A Hughesville resident is facing a felony charge for allegedly assaulting her father on December 28, 2020.
According to a Pettis County deputy’s report, a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper and the deputy were advised to respond to a physical disturbance. Upon arrival, authorities made contact with a man who stated his daughter, Jodie Cornine had assaulted him. He had suffered a laceration to his left hand and a small laceration to his right hand.
Jodie Cornine is charged with a Class D Felony for Domestic Assault in the Second Degree. Bond is fixed at $25,000 cash or surety.
Her case has been bound over for trial. Cornine is scheduled for arraignment at 9 a.m. Monday, March 15 at Pettis County Circuit Court.
