Guest Opinion: The challenge of a fair trial for Chauvin
When a legal proceeding is as emotionally supercharged as this one, and has taken on such enormous symbolic significance, leaders of the community would seem to have a particular duty to urge the public to remain calm and patient, to respect the processes of law, and to withhold final judgment until all the facts and arguments from all sides have been fairly examined.

In December the Hennepin County District Court made public a questionnaire it was sending to prospective jurors in the upcoming murder trial of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Authorities have identified the victim killed in a crash in Farmington on Wednesday.
According to a release from the Farmington police, officers responded to a two-vehicle crash with reported injuries on Pilot Knob Road and 206th Street West.
Initial investigation suggests a 2016 Ram 2500 truck was traveling south on Pilot Knob Road when it rear-ended a 2018 Ford Escape that was stopped in the left lane waiting to turn onto 206th Street West.
Mark J. Holton, 65, was the driver of the Ford Escape and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Ram 2500 was identified as Jacob J. Askew, 29, who was examined by paramedics at the scene and declined further medical attention.

Jordan William Carter, 30, was arrested and charged in December with unintentional second-degree murder after authorities said his claim of an accidental fall failed to account for the serious blunt-force trauma suffered by his fiancee s son, Cameron Joseph Gordon.
