Unlicensed bail agent accused in deadly Palm Springs shooting pleads not guilty

A man who said he was a bail agent and is accused of gunning down a Palm Springs man in front of city police officers pleaded not guilty Friday to murder and other charges.
Fabian Hector Herrera, 36, was arrested April 23 on suspicion of shooting 33-year-old David Spann. Spann was shot at 1:50 a.m. that day at a residence in the 100 block of East Via Escuela, according to the Riverside County Sheriff s Department.
Herrera was arraigned at the Banning Justice Center before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for May 11 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Fabian Hector Herrera, 36, was arrested Friday and booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside on suspicion of murder, where he remains held without bail.
Probationer accused of attempting to kidnap students pleads not guilty

A 24-year-old probationer accused of attempting to abduct two children from an elementary school in Desert Hot Springs pleaded not guilty today to multiple felony charges.

on Tuesday after being detained by school staff, was charged with kidnapping and attempted kidnapping, along with a misdemeanor count of presenting a false ID
to a peace officer.
Mercado was arraigned at the Banning Justice Center before Riverside County Superior Court Judge Alfonso Fernandez, who scheduled a felony settlement conference for May 4 at the Larson Justice Center in Indio.
Charges filed against woman accused of attempting to kidnap students
Felony charges were filed on Thursday against a probationer accused of attempting to abduct two children from an elementary school in Desert Hot Springs.
Yessica Chavez Mercado, 24, was arrested at the school Tuesday after being detained by school staff, according to the Desert Hot Springs Police Department.
She is charged with kidnapping and attempted kidnapping, along with a misdemeanor count of presenting a false ID to a peace officer.
Mercado, who’s being held in lieu of $110,000 bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside, is scheduled to be arraigned Friday afternoon.
Felon accused of killing 65-year-old North Palm Springs woman re-enters not guilty plea
A felon accused of killing a 65-year-old North Palm Springs woman to death with a machete days after being released from state prison re-entered a not guilty plea today.
David Earl Williams Jr., 29, was ordered to return to the Larson Justice Center in Indio on May 17 for a trial-readiness conference. He remains held on $2 million bail at the Robert Presley Detention Center in Riverside.
Williams is charged with murder for the killing Robin Patricia Barr, whose body was recovered on Feb. 24 in the open desert northwest of Varner Road and Palm Drive.
