A Sussex teen who started a home business baking macarons has joined a lawsuit as she seeks to keep her business on the right side of the law.  Popular Searches Ellie Boehm, owner of Miss E s Sweet Treats, joined the action with dozens of other Wisconsin home food producers against the state Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection after receiving an email alleging her business is illegal. In the email, Jessica Hoover, executive director of the Wisconsin Bakers Association, also said that some of the ingredients Ellie uses are potentially hazardous.

JURY TRIAL SCHEDULED FOR THREE MEN ACCUSED MULTIPLE FELONIES, INCLUDING KIDNAPPING, HAS BEEN SCHEDULED FOR NEXT MONTH

A jury trial has been scheduled for three suspects accused of multiple felonies, including kidnapping, nearly three years ago. A release from the Higginsville Police Department says on April 26, 2018, authorities arrived at the scene of the reported kidnapping at the Super 8 Motel in Higginsville and arrested the three men, who allegedly held two females against their will; raped and assaulted them; and demanded ransom money. Jaciel Acdala Mendez-Morales, who is now 21 years old, 25-year-old Alain Gaspar Camarillo-Linan and 24-year-old Luis Angel Sierra-Vallina have been charged with multiple felonies- including Class A Felonies for Kidnapping in the First Degree; Unclassified Felonies for Rape or Attempt; and Unclassified Felonies for Sodomy or Attempt. Mendez-Morales and Sierra-Vallina are being held on $500,000 and Camarillo-Linan on $750,000 cash-only bond at the Lafayette County Jail.

EXECUTION OF NARCOTICS SEARCH WARRANT LEADS TO DRUG CHARGE FILED AGAINST CONCORDIA RESIDENT

A 37-year-old Concordia woman has been charged with a drug-related felony due to the alleged findings of authorities when they searched her residence on Monday, February 22. According to a detective’s report, Lafayette County Drug Task Force detectives, along with Concordia Police officers, executed a narcotics search warrant in the 300 block of SW 8th Street. They say they found three plastic baggies, each containing 0.6 grams of methamphetamine; a Marlboro cellophane containing 16 hard pieces of cotton displaying a white crystal substance, which appeared to have been soaked in methamphetamine- each field tested positive for methamphetamine and weighed approximately 0.7 grams; numerous sandwich bags with corners missing; a set of digital scales containing a white substance, which field tested to be methamphetamine; and other drug-related items. Authorities also seized a cell phone.
