2020 has taught us ‘normal’ won’t do when it comes to real change Rakeem “Keem” Jones 2020 has transformed the way society walks, talks and thinks. This has been a year of emergence and awareness. Unlikely heroes have emerged from the social justice movement, demanding change. The heightened sense of cultural awareness among those ages 18 to 35 has led to a generational shift. As the world continues to wait on the transfer of presidential power, we must ask ourselves and our neighbors: “How do we begin to improve the community from within?” The worst thing we could do is wait on the government. Though the government provides resources, we must learn to become self-sustainable from resources within our community. It has to be a collaborative effort between the citizens and elected leaders to turn compassion into concrete legislation.
