The White House last month issued the first-ever proclamation on Black maternal health to address the unconscionable health crisis that Black women are facing. They are 3x more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than their white counterparts, as reported by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Even more tragically, most of these deaths are preventable.

To advance health equity and reimagine the maternal care experience for women of color, health insurers across the country are taking action. Notably, the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association recently announced a goal of reducing racial disparities in maternal health by 50% in the next five years.
