A new mainline airline debuted service between Los Angeles and Eugene on Wednesday, offering a more affordable, direct option between the two destinations. Avelo Airlines is offering direct flights between Hollywood Burbank Airport and Eugene Airport four days a week on Sundays, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Introductory fares for Avelo start at $19 one way. "The addition of service to Hollywood-Burbank Airport provides more nonstop travel options for the people in our region," said Cathryn Stephens, the acting Eugene Airport director. The Eugene Airport welcomed the first flight's landing with water canons to create an arch over the plane as it proceeded to the gate. As passengers exited the aircraft, they were given airplane cookies, Avelo swag and offered pizza at the balloon-decorated gate.
