The 20-year-old Canadian defeated Belgian qualifier Maryna Zanevska 6-1, 6-4 in 65 minutes, winning the last four games after going down a break in the second set. Andreescu converted all five of her break chances. After the match, Andreescu said she felt "a little bit of an ab tear" and decided she didn't want to push it ahead of the French Open.
