Navesh Chitrakar / Reuters The last customer has left the small bookstore. Tara closes the door from the inside, and Tom begins to settle up at the counter. Fifty-eight customers purchased 84 books — a successful day for the couple, who opened their new shop in a small town in the southwest of England just a few weeks ago. Tom and Tara worked in a bookshop in Hong Kong before abruptly emigrating to the UK, where Tom was born and raised, last autumn. The shelves display a wide range of regional fiction, non-fiction, mystery and children's books. Next to the health and nutrition section is a shelf of books about Hong Kong and the protests there. It’s a nod to the couple’s past. Hong Kong native Tara, in her mid-40s, pulls out her favorite book: «The Art of Rebellion» documents the artistic forms of protest employed by the democracy movement Beijing suppressed last year using legal and police repression.
