Although this year's forum has been restricted to a virtual format, advocates say there is a lot of work to be done as the country emerges from the pandemic. According to the Alzheimer's Association, there were at least 42,000 more deaths from Alzheimer's and other dementia in 2020 compared with averages over the previous five years. That represents a 16% increase. In Kentucky, there were 921 more deaths than expected from Alzheimer's and dementia, according to the organization.
