(LEX 18) â This week marks the annual Alzheimer s Impact Movement (AIM) Advocacy Forum, when advocates from around the country lobby their respective congress members to support measures to curb Alzheimer s and other dementia.
Although this year s forum has been restricted to a virtual format, advocates say there is a lot of work to be done as the country emerges from the pandemic.
According to the Alzheimer s Association, there were at least 42,000 more deaths from Alzheimer s and other dementia in 2020 compared with averages over the previous five years. That represents a 16% increase. In Kentucky, there were 921 more deaths than expected from Alzheimer s and dementia, according to the organization. ....

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) â If motherhood seems natural for Mallory Martinez, itâs because she learned how to be a mom from her mom, Patti.
âThe best. Thatâs the best way to describe her,â said Mallory. âOur family was everything to her. Me, my brother, my dad, her siblings. Everybody just meant the world to her.â
The two shared a bond only a mother and daughter can, a bond made stronger after Patti was diagnosed with early on-set Alzheimerâs disease 10 years ago. As Patti battled the disease, Malloryâs role transformed beyond a daughter, to a caregiver as well. She and her husband Matt even moved back home to help out. LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) - The former president and CEO of Churchill Downs who served from 1970-1984 has died, according to a release.
Albert Lynn Stone died Monday in Lexington. He was 95 years old.
Stone first started his career in professional baseball after serving in the US Coast Guard during World War II. Due in part to a player injury, he then began management of the Braves organization, which was then in Boston. ....
