federal government. what we haven't heard is how this new collection of information, if it ever comes to pass, will be protected. where is it going to be housed? is it going to be encrypted? when you collect this kind of personal data about every american and you put it in one place, you're creating a very tempting target for criminals and state adversaries. i think the congress and secretaries of state have the right to ask, if this information is collected, what are the specific steps being taken to make sure we don't have another massive leak like the office of personnel management theft of a couple of years ago. >> it doesn't seem like a commission is going to be able to provide that at all. to me, that doesn't stand up. that doesn't bear scrutiny either. but to your president, the vice chairman of the commission, he has been asked questions about the security issue. he actually says, no, this is actually going to help the security of the voter rolls. here he is on npr.
